I use the lens for outdoor scenes and close-ups of flowers and for indoor photos in low light conditions. Very sharp compared with my old kit lenses.

ok, first off.. i use this on my epl-1 with a adapter.. so i dont have total good judgement on focus speed if it were on a 4/3's camera. but, other than that,... i used to have a Canon 60d, with alot of lenses.. and i wanted to make the switch to m4/3rs b/c of i just wanted to change some things up and i liked the smaller size. (body.. not always lenses) so when using the epl-1 (or olympus cameras in general).. i wanted to go all out and get the lens that i will never have to change or think later.. "man.. should i get this lens that is better than mine now?".. so the obvious choices were the 12-60mm and the 14-54.. the 12-60 is alot more.. way too much more IMO.. and i heard alot of negatives about it.. such as soft on the long end and alot of times people need to recalibrate their lens/camera.. so it was a obvious choice to go w/ the 14-54.. and i am very happy i did.. my current combo is the Epl-1,EVF-2 (viewfinder) and 14-54mm .. and my camera looks BOSS.. the lens is very well constructed and it feels great.. like i said i use a epl-1 so my focusing conclusion cant be the best with a adapter.. but from previously using the 14-42 4/3's lens.. its alittle better.. no real complaints during the day w/ good lighting. On low light pictures.. i cant really judge that much on it because im hindered on the fact im using a epl-1 w/ not the best iso performance.. but its pretty good for what i can get out of it. the lens itself is SHARP.. really sharp.. i was very happy w/ my pictures and it was a big step from the 14-42mm 4/3's lens i had before. also its nice to be at 2.8 on the wide end and at 3.5 at the long end.. at 54mm at 3.5 you can get some nice sharp shots w/ some nice bokeh in the shot. construction is really nice too.. built like a tank.. mostly for a tank like body.. im thinking of getting a E-3 or maybe the OM-D. the lens has some weight to it but.. hey.. its built that way. i dont kno how helpful this review is.. but i just want everyone to know I am very happy with my purchase! ... SO GET IT! w/ this. i wont have to buy another walk around lens now. .. unless i get a prime lens.....

I use this lens on my E-5 and rate it excellent for overall general use. The image quality is outstanding and I feel that the auto-focus is more than adequate.

As my primary lens, I trust a lot in it... it was my first High Grade lens... and I really noticed the change from the kit lens. Great quality and built quality.

I was looking for a bigger aperature replacement for my 14-42mm kit lens, this is just right, allows a noticable amount of telephoto to the end. The 12-60mm would have been nice too, but not so nice to the wallet. So the 14-54mm II is a good replacement in the lack of money scenario. If you have the cash to blow, I recommend the 12-60mm, especially if you have an e-3/30, but for us E520 users, the 14-54mm does great at almost half the cost. It's nice and weather sealed, so I'm not afraid to take it out in the rain, while I fear for my e-520 body, but I always put some plastic bagging over the body to protect it, it's pretty freeing to know I can take it out and not worry too much about it. Zoom is smooth, focus is by wire, which is how most OLY lenses are, so that would be the only advantage really the 12-60mm has aside from SWD motor. Overall, I'm glad I I got it, it has improved my ability to take photos, i've taken some near-macro shots that look amazing with this lens so far, so I feel it is very versatile.

I just love this lens, I upgrade from the kit 14-42... big difference!!!! It really worth it. You would not see it, until you get it.

This lens has replaced a dimmer and less contrast 14-42 mm kit lens. The focusing is faster and also it easier to focus manually with this lens. The lens is heavier than the kit lens 14-42 but the positive the camera is more stable with this lens attached. I would recommend this lens to my friends with no hesitation. Leo

The olympus 14-54 is a great overall lens gives great details every time, not to great for low light this lens should be given out instead of the olympus 14-42 (a good basic lens) worth the money you can pick it up at adorama for .....

This is a very nice all-around lens. The build quality is great, just as you would expect from a high grade lens. The weight is no problem at all. Although heavier than the kit lens, it is still relatively light and does not feel out of place on the E-510. The image quality is excellent and it also produces a nice bokeh. I was thinking of getting the 12-60mm lens, but since I already have the 11-22mm I opted for this one instead. I do not regret my decision.
