A super versatile lens. Been shooting for over a year with this lens and my om-1. Birds, Elk, Deer extra. Prime lenes are great BUT, in the field, you need a good quality zoom lens to compose your subject quickly and efficiently before you lose the moment. No wasted motion with this lens, in a quarter throw of the very smooth zoom ring, you zoom from 150-400mm quickly with a constant f-stop of 4.5, flip the TC lever without taking your eye off the viewfinder and your at 500mm, F5.6. (With the om-1 and times two crop you have a crazy reach of 300mm-1000mm, 35mm equivalent.) I shoot handheld almost all the time, especially for birds in flight which is not a problem. If I know I have to wait out that nice buck, elk or bear, then is the only time, I put my gear on a tripod. The om-1 with its back lighted stacked sensor and this lens I don't have to worry about image noise anymore and most importantly I have put to arrest about switching to full frame. The only con to this lens is getting one in your hands. Hopefully the supply chain will get better. Enjoy the pictures

I've been shooting with this lens since May, 2022 on an Olympus OMD em1 Mark II and OM-1. I have not gotten one sharp photo at a distance of approx. 20 feet or more. The photos have all been a bit soft at 400mm. And when I add the 1.25x, worse. Closer shots are ok but still not what I expect after all the hype about this lens. I'm talking about uncropped, straight out of the camera photos. I also shoot Canon and the 100-500mm lens is killer sharp!! I'm very experienced and I shoot primarily on a tripod using all the settings and techniques I know. If I would have known this prior to purchase I would not have spent the outrageous amount of money. I'm just going to stay with Canon in the future and not buy any more 4:3 equipment.

I've had the 150-400mm for about 1 year and captured some great images with my OMD EM1 Mark III, but the OM-1 and 150-400mm are made for each other. I've been using the OM-1 and the 150-400mm f4.5 lens combo for several months now and it's totally amazing! This lens has so many great features that make it perfect for wildlife & bird photography: built in 1.25x teleconverter, focus limiter switch, fast 4.5 aperture, L-Fn or preset focus point and the maximum zoom range (with the 1.25x teleconverter) of 1000mm (35mm equivalent) is incredible. Add a 1.4x teleconverter and now at 1400mm (35mm equivalent) I can get photos of skittish little birds. This combo has taken my photography to a whole new level. It's so fun to see what I can do now!

I purchased this lens to use with my OM-D E-M1X camera body, but I wanted a lighter weight option, so when the OM-1 became available, I purchased the new body, too. What a perfect combination for bird photography!! This lens exceeded my expectations in terms of fast, accurate focus, ease of zoom, and very easy actuation of the built-in teleconverter. The results are superb! Even in low light and hand held! I have been an avid Nikon user until this combination, and the transition to Olympus was easy and rewarding! I'm VERY PLEASED with this lens and body combination!

Coupled to the M1X body, this is nearly a perfect rig for getting great shots of birds in flight. It is a joy to use, and I find it quite easy to get evangelical about it!

Like most amateur Olympus users I had to wait 2 years to get one of these hyped up lenses. It was worth every second. This lens easily matches the image quality I have got used to, using the 300mm F4. I really do sense it is actually delivering sharper results when working in low light, at the limits - high praise indeed. The biggest shock was the weight, it is so light. This lens combined with the OM-1 that arrived 2 days before (yes an expensive but exciting week) is a nature photographers dream outfit.

My long-awaited lens arrived a few weeks ago, It is spectacular both in build and in image quality. Simply said, it brings a look of joy to my face every time I use it or open an (always stunning) image. As an owner of the 300mm F4 Pro and the 100-400mm, it is functionally a clear step above even while those are both impressive in their own right. It does have a bit of a learning curve since it has some features missing on other Olympus lenses and not in the manual - For example, once "set" at a particular focus position, the 4 preset buttons, if held down, allow you to override the half-press shutter auto-focus setting and temporarily put it in manual focus at the present position until you release the button. If there was one smallest of nitpicks it would be the absence of a provided traditional squeeze lens cap like on all other Olympus lenses. Olympus doesn't even offer one as an accessory. The provided lens hood and associated fabric "bootie" is wonderful -light and simple to install. However, in its "reversed" position the manual focus ring is not accessible and sometimes you just want to travel small and a simple cap would be perfect. I just can't bring myself to put one of the other "TwoBig" manufacturers' 95mm lens caps on an Olympus lens that's this great!! - I want to advertise Olympus' best lens ever.

The most amazing lens I've ever used. Difficult to describe and put into words how sharp, fast, light, well built, color, contrast, stabilization, and beautiful white finish it has.

This lens is superb. It?s provides the versatility that I?ve always wanted combined with a fairly bright aperture. The built in TC is just as useful as I imagined it would be. It?s expensive, but it?s worth every penny. I had the 300 f4, which was a great lens, but it always needed a teleconverter swapped in or out, causing me to miss shots. Once I make the decision to pull this lens out of my bag, I don?t need to go back into my bag until I?m done shooting.

Long awaited, was not disappointed but rather overwhelmed! Replaced my 100-400mm, really no comparison. Found the EM1X combined with this lens to be a near perfect balance whether handheld or on my Flex-Shooter bull head. Love the ability to set and easily recall focal point and being able to quickly and easily switch the teleconverter in/out .Find the auto focus to be consistently spot on. Getting more and more keeper with birds in flight. I love to go out with the EM1X and this lens combo- lightweight, flexible and just a Blast overall.

I've waited a long time to get my hands on this lens. Booking a trip to Yellowstone was contingent on having this lens. I've taken enough pictures to confirm that this is very high quality lens. I think it might even be better than the Olymous 300mm PRO lens. The light weight has allowed me to take sharp pictures of birds in flight with both the 1.25x built in plus adding the 1.4x teleconvertor for an effective 1400mm reach .. all hand held. I have yet to mount it on a tripod.

Incredible lens. Tack sharp images are no problem even at 500mm handheld. Used the 2x teleconverter and a tripod and get great images at 1000mm. As subjects get further away I am getting a little bit of softness but I think that is me. Well worth the wait for this amazing lens!

Built for Micro Four Thirds cameras, this zoom offers a 300-800mm equivalent focal length range, which can be extended even further using the integrated 1.25x teleconverter for an effective 1000mm equivalent focal length. The constant f/4.5 maximum aperture affords consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and is reduced slightly to f/5.6 when the teleconverter is in use.
