This is a large, and heavy lens for this format, but the image quality and unique wide view that it offers is special. This lens balances and handles nicely on the OMD E-M1 body and it is dust and splash sealed. It is expensive, but it provides a wide angle view and image quality that is not available anywhere else.

From shooting ATT Giants Stadium to an Orthodox Church in low light this lens is amazing. The 7-14mm almost acts like my 2.0 14-35 and 35-100 lens. It sucks up the light to produce a very clear image from edge to edge with spectacular colors.

This lens is very wide and very high quality. It is unmatched in the 4/3's arena. But because this is so wide it takes a little bit to learn how to get the full use of this lens and to minimize the little bit of distortion you will get if you point the lens at an angle toward, say the ground. It has a fisheye type front element but is not a fisheye in terms of effect. For this reason you cannot fit a filter on front. The lens cap is heavy duty metal and I recommend you replace this whenever not shooting as it will help protect the front element from accidental brushes with people, your own clothing, whatever. It's probably a little heavy for some people but honestly I like the robust construction. Feels more solid unlike the plasticky feeling of kit lenses from OTHER brands. If you are a landscapist, architectural or whatever I recommend this lens, though I have not tried the 9-18 to compare. But if you are like me you buy the best of the best and with that you get better results. That's what Olympus SHG is all about.

This lense is the best lense I have ever purchased and used in the 45 years I have been an avid photographer. I find the fact I cannot use a filter, especially a UV, I tend to be overly protective and have lost some shots as a result of delay; but this has been a small price to pay for what I have gotten.

This lens will make you believe that 14 mm is the new normal. I have to force myself away from the 7 mm end. Rich saturated colors and wonderful micro detail.

This is a beautiful lens, that produces sharp, artifact-free images. Carry it on your travels and amaze yourself as you fit the entirety of buildings, landscapes, statues in the frame. It's a little heavy, but with that weight you get the power of composing some amazing shots with the assurance that your images will be clear and sharp. I've had mine for over a year and have no regrets at all.

I consider this a very high grade, professional quality lens. f 4.0 is fairly fast for this wide angle, allowing hand held shutter speeds that are pretty darn slow. The optics are first rate from what I have seen in personal use. I prefer the ultra wide angle perspective his lens gives without so much barrel distortion apparent in a fish eye lens. The wide field of focus (and close focus distance) combined with the ultra wide angle allows for great creativity. I would not be without this lens in my Olympus repertoire. The lens is heavy, but I'm happy to carry it in exchange for what it gives me. Note that the bubble lens element needs care not to scratch and filters are not available.

It's a little pricey but well worth it. I just wish you could put a filter on it to protect it. Otherwise, FANTASTIC lens. [...]

Truly a wide view, makes landscapes feel huge, creates unreal portraits without the fisheye distortion. Olympus make quality and it shows!!

I use this lens a lot for underwater photography with the E330 camera. This lens is absolutely amazing. Making close ups with this lens becomes very easy. There are hardly any arifacts. I have use other wide angles before but this one surprised me. It is clear also at the edges and lines stay straight.

7 mm for real

"Designed for Digital" Lens Based on Four Thirds System - Super-Wide-Angle 2x Zoom Performance with a Minimum Wide-Angle starting focal length of 7mm
With a minimum wide-angle starting focal length of 7mm (equivalent to 14mm on a 35mm film camera), the 114-degree picture angle provided by this product is the widest in the world (NOTE) for a zoom lens designed for use with digital cameras. As a super-wide-angle lens, it allows the photographer to create out-of-the-ordinary images by emphasizing depth of field and perspective. Because it is designed specifically for use with digital cameras, this lens ensures stable imaging quality right out the periphery of the image.
Working Distance of Just 10cm for Enhanced Photographic Possibilities
The inner focusing system features a newly developed "floating" mechanism that ensures excellent image quality at all ranges from infinity to extreme close-up. With a minimum working distance (NOTE) of just 10cm, the lens allows the photographer to work extremely close to the subject, which is essential to create images with enhanced perspective
Large-Aperture Aspherical Lens - World's First ED Molded Glass Aspherical Lens Elements
The new lens incorporates two molded glass aspherical lens elements for effective correction of the distortion and astigmatism commonly associated with super-wide-angle lenses. Distortion is minimal, even when shooting close to the subject, allowing the lens to produce sharp images that precisely reflect the photographer's intentions in all types of photography. Large-aperture concave lens elements that are aspherical on both sides play a particularly important role in the correction of distortion and curvature. This lens also features the world's first (NOTE) two-sided aspherical ED lens elements. In addition to color correction, these also allow the elimination of coma flare on the periphery of images
Dual Super ED and ED Lens Elements Used to Minimize Chromatic Aberration
Super-wide-angle lenses are prone to chromatic aberration. The Zuiko Digital ED7-14mm F4.0 incorporates two ED lens elements, and its ED lens group also includes two Super ED lens elements with color dispersion characteristics similar to those of fluorite. Theseallow the lens to suppress color aberrations that cannot be fully corrected with conventional optical glass. The result is optimal resolution and contrast.
New Multi-Coating Process to Reduce Ghosting and Flaring
Olympus has used a newly developed multi-coating process to minimize reflections across a wide range of wave lengths. This feature minimizes the ghosting and flaring that commonly affect wide-angle lenses.
Dust and Water Droplet Resistance for Enhanced Reliability
Exterior parts of the lens have been sealed to provide enhanced protection against dust and water droplets, ensuring reliable performance even under the tough shooting conditions experienced by pro photographers.
