Would recommend ONLY with reservations about the AF. Image quality was better than expected but I ended up giving this away and getting the Panasonic GF-2 because of AF & shutter lag issues... traded some slight image quality to get better focus and shutter delay. I've learned since that Oly has updated the kit lens to be more responsive. Use it in the store to see if you could deal with shutter lag and AF speed.

I mainly got this camera/lens combo for a lightweight, casual camera to use while out and about, and for video. It has not disappointed! I even found the video quality to be more than acceptable. I need to use it further to give it a better, full-use review, but I'm very impressed thus far. Also, this little baby shrinks back inside itself when not in use for even more compact storage. It packs in a lot of functionality for such a little thing. There's power in the petite! My only moderate complaint is the lens noise on video. I should mention that the 14-42 lens in this package is much quieter than using the macro lens with an adapter. When using a four-thirds adapter (the MMF-2) and macro lens, the noise was much, much worse. But for still shots, the 50mm 1:2 macro was outstanding in quality. Usually, I edit the audio out of most close-up shots, scenery shots anyway, but for a casual shoot (i.e. with family/friends) it may interfere with dialogue. It was tricky to get used to, and the grip isn't all that comfortable at first (after using nothing but Nikon for years and years!), and I'd say there is definitely a learning curve with this camera. I like that you can switch modes easily in most functions (i.e. using manual focus in the Portrait mode and so on), but you do have to use manual focus for video. Some people may not like that, especially if they're not used to manual cameras. The battery life was fair. I used it solid for two days, and took quite a bit of video as well. It does take up to three hours for a full charge of the battery, so it's not the most efficient for constant use. Overall, I'm very thrilled with it thus far. If you are looking for something more automated for video, I'd definitely go another route. But, if you like the challenge of a manual-based operation (as I do), you'll love this camera! Once you get the hang of the menu functionality and the sheer pleasure of the lightweight feel, you'll grow to love it as much as I have. For the price, you just can't beat this little gem!

I got this camera as I wanted a nice camera with a great lens. So far it is great, I need to get a flash for it and I will be able to see if it performs as well as I believe it will. So far the speed is great, in line with a few of the 35mm camera I used to use.

I love my DSLRs (Canon Rebel XT & 40D) BUT they spend entirely too much time living in my closet and I miss way too many photo ops due to the bulk & weight. It has not been feasible for me to carry them on a daily basis, so I have wanted a portable shooting solution offering quality images for quite some time. I find the E-P1 to be easy to use, portable enough to throw in my purse and I have been pleased with the quality of photos I have been getting with the 14-42mm kit lens. In my opinion, the autofocus issues reported by some reviewers have been overstated. I was able to shoot photos of a butterfly in burst mode and did not encounter any issues with focus. The only focus issue I have had thus far is when shooting in very low light - I am planning to get an adapter for my Canon 50mm 1.8 so that I can see what the camera is capable of with a faster, sharper lens. The camera, in turn, will offer stabilisation for this lens, so I will be able to enjoy it without a tripod for the first time. My biggest disappointment with this camera is the lack of a viewfinder, so I have been using a Hood Loupe as an alternative and that has worked well. I am very happy with this camera and have rated it 4 Stars due to lack of a viewfinder.

Had to use this camera a while to get use to it since I'm a Canon user. The camera has complex menus. However, it does have one master menu that you can use that makes changing settings easier. Would have really liked a viewfinder since when you are out in the sun, it is like shooting blind. Also wish they weren't so tight about releasing lenses and adapters so that this camera can be used with other lenses. I got tired of waiting for the adapter and bought the Panasonic adapter which is the exact same thing and works fine. Bought the Olympus 50 mm 4/3rds lens which is tack shart and takes great macro shots. Took some hummingbird pictures and they came out very sharp. I am liking the size and less weight as I have a back injury and just holding something small is a big deal. Think this is a very excellent camera all around and the IQ is great. Also needs a viewfinder, but maybe the next version will include these things.

The Olympus E-P1 marks an innovative new era in digital imaging. The Micro Four Thirds camera upholds the legacy of the celebrated PEN family of cameras, with the photographic optics of an SLR and the size and simplicity of a point and shoot. Combining the still image quality of a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) with the A/V quality of both a High Definition camcorder and high-end audio recorder, the E-P1 is a virtual full-service imaging studio in one ultra-portable and stylishly retro body.
The E-P1 is the world's smallest 12.3-mexapixel interchangeable lens system camera, yet has the creative flexibility to give you a true professional experience with ease. A still photo, video and audio recorder in one, the E-P1 creates exceptional photos, inventive slide shows and remarkable videos both for personal use or for posting on many of today's social networking websites.
It delivers professional quality images without the bulk of a conventional DSLR, thanks to its slim body and advanced high-speed imager AF (Live View) technologies. The lens mount diameter has been reduced, enabling the use of smaller, lighter interchangeable lenses that perform at the same level as larger DSLR lenses.
The camera fits easily in many pockets and purses. With 12.3 megapixels at its disposal, the E-P1 delivers image quality that makes the difference between ordinary and exceptional still and video imaging. A Live MOS image sensor is complemented by a next generation TruePic V Image Processor, resulting in excellent dynamic range, accurate color fidelity, fine image details in all highlight and shadow areas and reduced noise.
The E-P1's three-mode In-body Image Stabilization system compensates for up to four shutter speed steps in the still shooting modes with any of its interchangeable lenses: Mode 1 for general shooting, Mode 2 for creative high-speed horizontal capture and Mode 3 for high-speed vertical capture. The camera's Mechanical Image Stabilization automatically compensates for camera shake in low-light situations or when using a telephoto lens.
In the Movie Modes the advanced Electronic Image Stabilization tracts the images both vertically and horizontally to achieve clear sharp movies, matching the performance of the in body IS. A Dust Reduction System assures spot-free images via a patented ultrasonic technology called Supersonic Wave Filter, which vibrates to remove dust and other particles from the image sensor and confines them to a special adhesive membrane. The 3x standard zoom lens is the smallest and lightest in its class and features a closest focusing distance of only 25cm. The ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and two aspherical lens elements correct aberrations without increasing lens dimensions. The circular aperture diaphragm enables beautiful defocusing - one of the big advantages of this lens. Excellent mobility is assured by a weight of less than 190 grams.
