The FL36 will be the only flash I use.

It would have been nice if pop-up flash could be used at the same time. But nothing takes away from the value of its' design and functionality. I see it as a worthwhile investment.

I gave this flash a 5 because I knew what I was buying when I got it, it works great with my e510 and is interesting how they communicate with each other, the down side to it would be distance and recycle time but if I wanted more I would have went for the 50.

I would probably get the fl - 50 as it has more flash range though I have not been disappointed with the FL-36.

This flash is just great, my indoor shots have never looked better regardless of lighting condition. I don't know what the fl50 could offer that this one doesn't have, I generally need 5 seconds in between shots anyway. The unit turns off via camera and the only con is with my big fingers it's hard for me to turn the unit on, the power button is set deep so you won't power on/off by accident. Other than that if I were a pro fashion photographer I might want something faster.

JUST GETTING STARTED,THIS FLASH MADE A BIG DIFFERANCE IN THE INDOOR PORTRAITS I WAS TAKING. THE ABILITY TO BOUNCE LIGHT OFF THE CEILING AND WALLS WAS AWESOME.

Bought this flash for my fathers birthday to go with his Olympus E-500. He is new to digital photography and had used non dedicated flashes with his nikon el. His photo/flash work was always unnatural and over exposed. The FL36 takes alot of guess work out of flash photography and makes the casual user seem like a pro (or at least a very serious hobbyist. I don't like the lock ring on the bottom as it appears flimsy and the first unit we had was already broken from the factory. With a good slip on diffuser the pictures are well lit without the washout characteristic with powerful flashes. On full ttl it balances everything together nicely.

This flash has a short learning curve and awesome features. The ability to use it in conjunction with the built in flash is a added bonus as you can swivel the flash up and away from your subject to illuminate the entire scene without washing out your subject.

Very happy with my purchase. This is a perfect compliment to the Olympus E 500 camera. This flash is a major upgrade from the on camera flash.Recycle time is a bit slow but meets all my needs. That was one of the biggest differences between the FL 36 & the FL 50. The other was price. Great value!

Perfect match for the e-500 I'm using. It's well-designed and performs well. A real great value for the price.

I like that it is compact and stows flat. The only thing I am still getting used to is that it has a button that needs to be pushed to turn the head down to the useable position from the stowed position. A good feature, but since my 35mm flash didn't have that, I need to get used to it.

Good buy for the price. Consistant results. I shoot a lot of indoor family pictures and I don't know how I lived with the built in flash before this purchase. Recycling time is not fast. If you need fast recycling and high power go with the more expensive FL-50. Overall very satisfied with the purchase and strongly recommend it.

Well worth the cost. Better, more even lighting than on-board flash. It eliminated red-eye. When I turned off camera, it also turned itself off. At first, I wondered why it needed 4 buttons. Made it seem over-complicated. Actually, you can ignore them for most shots.

i have been using the fl-36 with my E-1 for a few months and am very happy with it, the only down side is the slow recycle time.

Getting to know any flash takes time and reading both the flash manual and camera manual to figure out the best settings. This flash is perfect for casual/family event shooting. Recycle times are highly dependent on the batteries used and can range from very slow or reasonably fast. It is the perfect size to carry around and works much better than any built-in flash.

A good product and easy to control bounce, but you need to read the manual and practice.

I have an FL50 for my E-1 and recently borrowed an FL36 for my E-300. Although I'd never part with the FL50, I did use the E-300's pop-up flash with the FL36 quite a bit (something you can't do with an E-300/FL50 combo). I had the 50-200 on the E-1/FL50 most of the time and my 11-22 or 14-45 on the E-300/FL36. The FL36 did well as most of my wide angle photos had fairly close subjects. With the 50-200 telephoto, I usually needed the extra power of the FL50. What I Liked: Awesome pop-up flash + FL36 bounce abilities with E-300 (medium to low ceilings), compact size, decent wide angle coverage (w/11-22 lens) What I Disliked: noticeably slower flash recharge than FL50, less output power is less useful for bounce lighting.

Designed specifically for use with digital cameras, the FL-36 rounds out the comprehensive lineup of "designed for digital" accessories for the E-System Digital SLR cameras and other prosumer models from Olympus. The FL-36 flash offers the robust and full-featured functionality of the larger FL-50 combined with cost effectiveness.
The FL-36 provides photographers with an additional option from the existing suite of electronic flashes Olympus offers for E-System Digital SLR cameras and prosumer models like the C-8080 Wide Zoom and C-5060. As a result of its completely digital framework, the FL-36 achieves a higher level of exposure accuracy than flash units designed for film based cameras.
The FL-36 Electronic Flash is specifically designed for digital with an accurate 1/8 step illumination control to provide the precision required by digital cameras, while minimizing illumination reduction. The built-in wide-angle diffuser panel will allow the flash to provide even illumination with wide anglelenses like the Zuiko Digital 14mm-45mm zoom.
The inclusion of a lockable bounce and swivel mechanism offers a variety of bounce photography options including left-right, as well as top-bottom in addition to a compact zoom head to accommodate lenses from wide angle to telephoto.
The FL-36 also features a newly designed energy circuit that improves recharge rates and enables the flash to operate on just two AA batteries or one CR-3 Volt lithium. In addition, the FL-36 incorporates an ultra-precision mounting technology communicating with the E-1 and new EVOLT E-300 for control.
The FL-36 is compact, lightweight and extremely portable, and is approximately 25% shorter and 35% lighter than the larger FL-50 flash, a significant space and weight savings.
