I upgraded from Olympus FL-600R, which is a decent flash. After a few first shots, I discover a big difference between these two flashes. For example, FL-900R almost never overexposes the shots, as FL-600R does. Even FL900-R is a lot more powerful. TTL, Wireless FLash, and other features work great with mine Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark II. I used a lot of Canon, Sigma, and other manufacturers in the past and I must say that I'm very impressed with FL-900R abilities. Except for wireless flash. I'm used to having Master and Slave 2.4 GHz on the flash, unfortunately, FL-900R does not have such abilities. Overall, it is a fantastic flash, I would say the best for Micro Four Thirds.

I've been shooting for years. Mostly just for fun but will do the occasional wedding. I have never really liked using flashes because they are cumbersome and make the shooting less spontaneous and easy. This flash is still big but it does respond well. No really issues waiting for it to catch up and charge and is pretty flexible with the wireless off camera options. I'm not a super proficient flash user but that's because i was always fighting the equipment. This flash makes me want to be a better user because it works. I just need to become better educated on the hows. It's pricey but you get a quality piece of equipment.

Well built. Lots of power. Rc communicates well with camera and other 900r flashes. 600r triggers 900r in rc mode as well. Very happy with.

I have only had the fl-900R a couple of days so most of my observations are from testing rather than actual shooting conditions. On first impression it seems a bit big, and heavy, but it balances well on an E-M1, particularly with the grip. In fact it is only about 1/3 heavier than a FL-600R (about 17 ounces with NIMH batteries). The metal plate makes it feel quite secure on the camera. The flash has plenty of power to fill a normal room. It had no problems when bounced off the ceiling, with or without the included bounce adapter and worked well with third party flash modifiers. When zoomed to the 100mm setting it was able to light objects over 50 ft away. Recycle time is very short. That may be due in part to the power as it seldom has to use the full charge. Off camera it works well with either the FL-LM2 and the FL-600R. When used as a master the included IR filter does not seem to interfere with triggering an off-camera flash and should prevent the communication flashes from interfering with the setup. So far the FL-900R seems to be an exceptional flash: Powerful, fast, and well suited to the E-M1.

A powerful and versatile lighting solution, the Olympus FL-900R Wireless Flash is designed to meet the demands of professional photographers and enthusiasts alike. With a high-intensity guide number of 58 meters (at ISO 100), this flash unit delivers exceptional illumination across a broad range of focal lengths, thanks to its electronic zoom head. The built-in wide panel ensures comprehensive coverage for wider focal length lenses, while the catchlight panel effortlessly enhances portrait photography by illuminating your subjects' eyes.
Engineered with dust and splashproof construction, the FL-900R is the perfect companion for weather-sealed OM-D camera bodies and M.Zuiko PRO lenses, allowing you to capture stunning images even in challenging weather conditions. Whether you're shooting in rain or dust, this flash unit ensures reliable performance, making it an indispensable part of your OM-D system.
The Olympus FL-900R excels in wireless flash capabilities, utilizing the Olympus RC (remote control) system. It can function as a master flash to trigger additional RC-compatible units, operate as a slave in one of four independently controlled groups, or serve as a commander flash with the included IR filter. With four available channels, the RC Mode minimizes interference from other photographers, making it ideal for event photography.
A built-in 1.5w LED video light adds versatility, providing a continuous light source for video shooting and serving as a focus assist light for still photography. The one-touch on/off control offers quick access to 100 Lux power (at 1m), perfect for low-light situations.
When paired with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera body, the FL-900R transforms into a sequential shooting powerhouse. It can fire continuously at 10 frames per second for up to 100 shots at 1/128 power or 30 times at 1/32 power. Advanced charging circuitry ensures a rapid recycle time of just 2.5 seconds during sequential shooting, so you never miss a moment. The improved FP mode allows shooting beyond the E-M1 Mark II's sync speed without risking overexposure, while the new Multi Mode enables creative control by capturing movement through multiple flash bursts in a single exposure.
Overall, the Olympus FL-900R Wireless Flash is a robust and feature-rich tool that enhances your photographic capabilities, offering precision, power, and reliability in any shooting scenario.
