Review Summary

I was a long time Canon user, of course a closet of bodies and L lenses. One of my first test outings was to a 300 year old Cathedral. Low light, or no light. This combination proved far better than any other combination I have used for this type of shot. ISO, no problem at all. I could read small memorial plaques on a far wall when viewing images taken at 12mm. For wildlife, just as good using a 100-400. Bird detection found a woodpecker that I could barely see because of sun in my face. I followed the detection boxes and later found the bird in great focus. This replaces my current kit, at less than half the weight !!!

A good move up from my EM5 III. I have a friend who upgraded his Olympus camera to an OM-1, and after looking at his results, decided to upgrade, as nice as my EM5 III was. So far I am happy with the results, but it's a steep learning curve if I want to customize it very much - I never did many customizations with my EM5 III, but with the few customizations I did do, I was happy. I plan to do the same on the OM-1.

I was a bit on the fence about ordering this camera. All of the review sites love it, pretty much, and occasionally kvetched about the "limited" resolution and noise levels at absurdly high ISOs. Countering this is the ability to create 50MP handheld composites when needed using the best-in-the-business 5-axis image stabilization. As for noise levels, i never shoot over ISO 6400, essentially never have to, and such noise as there is, is far ahead of even "full frame" cameras from 6-8 years ago. If noise becomes an issue, the new AI based Denoise algorithm in Lightroom tidies that up nicely and without artifacts. The rather large selection of very high quality lenses, lighter and smaller than the FF equivalents, makes schlepping this system around on all day assignments a lot easier on your neck. Very happy with this camera, and the 12-40mm F2.8 II lens is astonishingly good across the board. Highly recommended.

As a longtime Olympus camera user, I love this camera and its homage to the original film OM-1. Camera is great and so is the lens.

Adorama gave a great price and fast service for my new OM1. Highly recommend Adorama. The OM1 is fantastic. My previous cammera was the M1 MarkIII. The OM1 HUGE improvement.

I absolutely adore this camera. I?ve had nearly every brand and mount that you can own. That is no exaggeration. No camera or system is perfect but for me the size, image quality and specs of the micro four thirds system, particularly Olympus, is the winning combination for me. This thing is a joy to use and the tech and features are second none. 4:2:2 10 bit internal video with the best stabilization on the market doesn?t hurt either. Highly recommended!

Replaced my Olympus EM5 Mark III with the OM-1 and very glad that I made the switch. The new bird detect feature is amazing, and even high-ISO photos are sharp. I was concerned that the OM-1 weighs a bit more than the EM5 Mark III, but I don't notice the difference.

A hand held sports car in the form of a camera! Creativity unbridled with the OM 1 camera at your finger tips. Focus on your creativity with a highly intuitive camera that is simple to understand and use! This camera allows you to feel pure enjoyment in the art of photography!

This is the most responsive camera I have ever used. It can handle almost any situation and delivers very high quality files. The camera allows almost any possible capture mode and is a pleasure to use. The tracking of birds in flight is very impressive with camera tracking the birds eye and stays locked on. The battery lasts all day with many hundreds of images possible before needing to be recharged. I highly recommend this to any serious photographer.

Amazing camera! I'm still learning the features. It's a beast. I've shot with the A.I. autofocusing subject tracking and works like a charm. This camera is extremely well-built and that's something I truly appreciate, since I live near the coast. If you get caught in a sudden rainstorm, no sweat either. You'll probably never use all the features this camera has to offer, but man!, they are surely nice to have.

The OM-1 is much improved over the previous model Olympus?OM flagship camera. It has much improved Focus, Light sensitivity and. longer battery Life. Much better viewfinder resolution. Improved ergonomics and controls. Downside they need to increase Sensor Resolution !

After owing and using my new OM-1 since Mid June while I have been using EM1.3 for a bit over two years, I can say I am very happy with this purchase. Things that I found OM-1 is better than EM1.3; 1. When I first got OM-1, I hardly noticed the improvement on EVF. Having used them side by side, it is a night and day difference. 2. AF is really good with EM1.3. But there are many times I got soft images even though the focus was dead on the subject. Many times some of those soft images or sometime just plain OOF, were the one that showed the best composition. This issues becomes substantially reduced with OM-1. I don't have time to do any comparison statistically but I for sure now I have images that I like more and can actually keep them with OM-1. 3. Subject detection is amazing. It is not perfect and I believe the imperfection is the same with any other system. If you distance is not too far and you don't deal with heat or cold haze, the keeper rate is astounding with SH2 or ProCapture SH2 even when you use Panasonic lenses. One thing I also notice now is that I hardly need to add any sharpness to the subject eyes with OM-1. With this excellent feature, the ProCapture SH2 is insane good and such as joy to use. I could just move on to my next shot rather needing to keep trying to get that very difficult action shots. 4. Battery life is way better than EM1.3. You can also run camera with external battery/power sources while charing the internal battery at the same time. 5. HHHR now is just a joy to use due to better IBIS as well as processing time. 6. Rolling shutter effect is much less. However, I still see it with Hummingbirds images. 7. I can now happily take images at up to ISO 12,800 when I need to even under poor lighting condition. I am not saying it will produce similar IQ as FF format. But it is a leap and bound above EM1.3 in this regard. I don't do a lot of PP so I cannot comment about DR improvement. Things that can be improved; 1. Front wheel dial. It is just plain stiff and not projecting out enough. So far, I don't really have issue using camera because of it. But I can see it becomes an issue when I wear gloves. 2. Info, Delete and Playback buttons are just too flushed making it more prone to make a mistake. 3. OM-1 shows way more green color than EM1.3 to my personal liking. But this is just a matter of personal preference and could be handled easily in post. it is just a bit annoying thing to me. 4. AF in video mode. Perhaps this might be a user error. But I have run into a few occasions where camera would not lock on the focus. It keeps drifting in and out. This is even when I have a clear look at my subject with very little background distraction. This is not an issue in slow motion however. Though the issue is easily fixed by changing to MF. Again it is something EM1.3 video AF just works right out of the box.

I needed a lighter camera system due to a medical condition. I?m not a pack ox any more! I was debating the EM cameras when I heard a new camera was due out. I?m glad I waited. The homage to the OM-1 was not done lightly. Indeed it is a groundbreaking camera worthy of professional consideration. The super lightweight lenses allow me to carry all I need at once.

My historical focus is videography. In the past, I bought a Sigma fp as a camera that could have a foot in both worlds, whereas the OM-1 is my first unambiguously stills-first camera (hardware shutter, in-body stabilization, etc). I purchased this camera to have something robust enough (with its IP-rated waterproofing) to go outside the studio, after hearing about it via folks kvetching about water resistance often being oversold on the lensrentals podcast wherein Olympus (in making a properly IP-rated camera and set of lenses) was held up as an exception to the general state of the industry. (The 12-40mm f/2.8 kit lens is fine -- I have no complaints about it at all, but while it's a nice, sharp standard zoom with a quiet focus motor, it's still another standard zoom; the IP rating is the only thing that makes it stand out against other modern, good-quality standard zoom lenses, though that's not to be forgotten). Paired with the 40-150mm f/2.8 lens, this camera is _glorious_. I can shoot sharp images on the long end of that lens's range completely handheld, and the noise level (when shooting in good light -- I haven't done anything in low light yet) is outright imperceptible. Moreover, the internal processing is smart enough that I have very little need to shoot in RAW and retune the parameters later -- the JPEGs come out looking great. There are also some innovations I haven't seen before -- highlighting the area selected for metering in the histogram is a really nice touch. The one disappointment here is that the body style doesn't permit support for all 3rd-party adapters. The overhang (just barely!) prevents the Fotodiox MFT->EF tilt/shift adapter from fitting; as someone hoping to have a good bit of fun playing with tilt/shift of my existing EF glass, that's a disappointment. Similarly, trying to figure out speedbooster support, the news is not unambiguously positive -- I've heard reports of folks taking a rotary tool to try to make their accessories fit. (The other thing I'd hope to see in the future from a 3rd-party tool-support perspective is Blackmagic Video Assist support for BRAW recording). But the above are quibbles; I don't regret this purchase one bit.

I love all the computational photography features: live ND, starry sky AF, in-body IS, live composite mode, high resolution mode (up to 80 gigapixels from a M4/3 sensor!), Pro Capture mode, C-AF tracking for many kids of subjects, focus bracketing/stacking, etc. Meaningful improvements over the EM1 X and III models include high ISO/low light image quality, AF sensitivity, processing speed, higher resolution EVF and display, and a more intuitive menu system. Minor gripes: OM-branded spare batteries and external charger are expensive; many post-processing software developers have not yet issued upgrades for the OM-1's RAW files. Hopefully software support and a cheap third-party battery charger will appear soon.

Fantastic camera! It's every bit as good as the reviews said it was. I have been using it with a variety of Olympus lenses, especially the M.Zuiko 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO, but also the Olympus 12-100mm Pro, the 40-150mm Pro, the 300mm Pro, and the 100-400mm. The menus are easy to navigate, and the camera feels right in the hands.

Nice come back for Olympus or OMD. OM-1 recaptures a positive and sustainable future of the brand. No camera is perfect though and OM-1 is no exception. These are a few items in my wish list from shooting OM-1 since it was release: 1) Ability to customize shooting video on C1-C3. As of now, these could only be set for still. Or maybe there is a hidden way that I yet figure it out. 2). Back LCD needs to be brighter. We are shooting blind here in the broad daylight without using the external monitor. 3). Slow. If this is your only camera you may not notice this. But if you have other cameras, you would noticed it is rather slow navigating around the menu or switching mode. 4) Back LCD (again) if you were to close it, so the LCD faces inside, it couldn?t close all the way in. There is a tiny gap causing it to wabble and unsecured. 5) Back Levers and buttons are too small. Could be personal preference but a bigger size would better suit for majority.

I?m a long way from mastering all that this camera can do. But, after it?s first outing on the coast of Maine last week, I can say that I am truly impressed with it?s capabilities in a variety of different available light settings. I?ve been shooting since I was 14 and had an OM-1 film version ?back in the day?. The feel of Olympus/OM Systems cameras is unmistakeable, like a fine watch and with performance to match. Very pleased with this camera.

Prior to ordering the OM-1, I had been using an E-M10II. I am only an amateur photographer, and the E-M10II served me well in that respect. I started longing for something else when I got my 100-400 lens. The E-M10II, was just too small to hold such a large lens comfortably, and the in camera image stabilization did not play with the lens stabilization at all. In addition, I started doing photography while rafting rivers, and on the beach, photographing friends surfing. I started to fear for the EM10 (which I still love). I have only had the OM-1 for a couple of weeks. But so far I'm in love. The handling is absolutely perfect for my larger hands. It's not too heavy to carry around on hikes for hours. The autofocus tracking (especially with birds) is fantastic. I got the 12-240 2.8 pro lens with the camera, and it is significantly better than the lenses I had. Finally, the water resistance makes me feel more comfortable with the camera around water. So far, very happy.

This model improves on all the aspects that make OM Systems cameras better and also improves on some of the deficits, such as noise in low lighting. A fine new flagship camera from a great tradition.

Though it doesn't hit every note, the new focusing system makes it a good choice for bird/wildlife. As a long time Olympus shooter, I am very pleased with this new body.

Needed and wanted
By ROBERT M.
This is the one
By RICHARD W.
Let the OM-1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO II Lens Kit elevate your photography experience. As the flagship model of the mirrorless OM system, this innovative camera is packed with the latest technology, offering a compact and lightweight design that fits comfortably in your hand, making it an ideal choice for professional photographers and hobbyists alike.
Experience the world's best image stabilization system that allows for sharp handheld shots, even in low light conditions. The OM-1's weather-sealed construction ensures worry-free operation in adverse conditions, enabling you to capture stunning images wherever your adventures take you.
The OM-1 boasts a stacked BSI Live MOS Sensor, delivering 20MP of exceptional sharpness that rivals most full-frame cameras. Its impressive ISO range can be extended up to an astounding 102,400, allowing for bright, crisp images in low light environments.
The camera's advanced features include Live ND Mode for dreamy landscape shots, a dedicated button for quick high-resolution shots, and the ability to capture long exposures of moving subjects without a tripod. With a high-speed Electronic Viewfinder operating at 120fps and an astounding 1,053 all cross-type focus points, the OM-1 ensures precision and speed in capturing your subjects.
The OM-1 is not just a camera; it's a reliable partner in your photography journey. With an IP53 rating, it's splashproof and dustproof, and its Supersonic Wave Filter ensures pristine images by shaking off dust and dirt from the sensor. The camera's shutter has been rigorously tested and proven to have a reliable lifespan of more than 400,000 actuations.
The OM-1 also excels in video capture, offering features for creating cinematic 4K movies. Capture smooth, ultra-high-resolution 4K/60p videos or high-speed full HD videos at 240p. The OM-Log LUT allows you to capture the maximum amount of dynamic range in challenging conditions and easily grade your color.
The kit also includes the M.Zuiko ED 12-40mm F2.8 Pro II lens, a high-resolution, large-aperture zoom lens that offers incredible versatility. Despite its powerful imaging capabilities, it's lightweight and compact, with an IP53-rating for weather sealing. The lens is built with world-class optics and an advanced coating that suppresses ghosting and flares. Its high-speed, high-precision autofocusing system ensures you won't miss a moment, whether you're shooting stills or video.
In summary, the OM-1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO II Lens Kit is a high-quality, advanced, professional, innovative, and sophisticated tool that will take your photography and videography to new heights.
