Questions & Answers

Shopper : is this camera compatible with mac software imovie '08 & Mac OS X?VIJAY S : I have not used iMovie. But I do use OS X for all my work on the Mac. I had no problems working on pictures taken by this camera.THOMAS W : It's a great camera. I love it. Sorry, but I don't use Mac.ROBERT W : The movie format is mov. There is no reason why it would not be compatible across platforms
SUZANNE K : What settings do I use for a concert without using the flash? I just got the camera yesterday and going to a concert tomorrow. I don't have enough time to go through the manual. Thanks for help in advance!WILLIAM E. L : Sorry for taking so long to answer your question. I hope this answer arrives in time for you concert. On the round settings dial on the back of the camera there is a symbol of a flame. Set it to that position. It is designed for low lights picture with no flash!PAUL V : Camera is pretty is easy to use and works quite well. I'm very pleased with it. For the concert set the big dial on the right to either P or AUTO. Then use the 4 way toggle switch to choose the no-flash symbol then press the OK button in the middle of that toggle switch and you are good to go. Have fun at the concert...who is playing?JOHN C : Turn the flash off and zoom in tight on the well lit stage. There is also a night shot mode if the stage has darker lighting. To turn flash off press right arrow on four way controller on the lower right back. Press once to get flash settings , twice to select flash off. SCN mode selected with the rotary knob on the middle right edge of the camera back. Use arrow on four way controller to select night scene. Have fun good luck. THOMAS W : Press the OK key. If nothing shows up on the screen, press 'INFO'. You will notice that a menu opens on the right side of the screen. At the top there is a menu that controls the flash. Scroll to the lightening bolt with a circle with a diagonal line through it. (use the left & right key to do this. You'll notice 2 black arrows). It will also say FLASH OFF'. This prevents the flash from firing. I took this camera to Europe and I took over 1000 pictures with it and they all came out fabulous. Enjoy, it's a great camera! TomTHOMAS P : While I don't have a lot of experiance yet with the TG-1 iHS yet I have exposed indor photos with the compression settrting on fine and the exposure on SCN setting "indoor" (no flash)with reasonably good result. I'd suggest you shoot afew indoor shots on that setting before the concert. Hope this is some help!ANDREW R : Instructions for setting your flash mode (Auto, Off, etc.) may be found on page 20 of the instruction manual that was included with your camera.
Shopper : How is it for shooting concert pictures and videos?SUZANNE K : I decided to go with it. I wanted an all around camera that I could use for kayaking, snorkeling, and taking concert pictures.LAURA C : We haven't used the camera for either . . .yet. SorryWILLIAM M : If you are close to your subject it will work great for concert photos. Videos may be harder due to camera shake. Not much of a zoom for this camera. Would love for it to have a much longer zoom for sports, wildlife, concerts, etc...GEDIMINAS B : You'll get a picture quality equal to 12$ disposable film cameras. If you not gonna use it underwater then better look for regular point and shoot camera.ROBERT H : I have not used this camera for cncerts or videos, BUT have used it underwater while snorkeling when capturing motion and lighting can be difficult. Camera performed GREAT and I took some wonderful pictures of sea turtles from about 3 feet away. The fast lens should do well at concerts and what little video I shot, I think you will be impressed with this camera. On recent photo trips, I have even left my digital SLR at home and relied on this camera alone - and have been very happy with the results.JOHN C : It has a very fast lens and can shoot in low light. Audio quality is good. You will likely have to try a few of the modes to see which one works best in a high contrast setting such as a concert. It is a very good camera. ALISON T : I ended up returning it. After 2 days the battery would go from full charge to dead in an hour.ROBERT W : I have not tried to use the camera at a concert. However I have used it to take videos of my granchildren singing in the church choir with excellent results. But where it really shines is in the burst mode at baseball and soccer games as well as in the surf!VIJAY S : I'm sorry but I haven't done any of those things you have mentioned.MICHAEL B : I've not used it for that. It takes good snapshots - I imagine with the larger aperture it'd give you more light, but it's not really designed for shots in dark rooms. Video quality is good, as is the sound.LAURENCEI G : Fine for video slow for low light indoor concerts. A fine camera all around no regrets. RALPH I : I have just returned from an overseas trip and therefore not had an opportunity to shoot either concert pictures or videos with the TG-1. In any event, I would probably use my Sony RX100 for those purposes. That said, my initial impressions of the TG-1 are very favorable. The build quality is truly outstanding, and the controls are intuitively designed. Of particular note, if you were using this camera for concert photos, would be the unusually complete "SCN" setting. Canon + Sony have had this valuable feature for years, but the Olympus TG-1 execution of the so-called "scene" feature is by far the best I've ever used. For example, there is a specific "SCN" setting for concerts, and when chosen the function is both explained on-screen in words as well as beautifully illustrated with a sample photo. Bottom line: I have been sufficiently impressed by the TG-1 that I am buying two more as gifts for my adult sons.JEFF K : Have filmed whitewater rapids and it worked great. Have not taken other video. Have taken pictures in a wide variety of places all have been wonderful

The one camera where you ONLY have to worry about misplacing it. Great pictures, built like a tank, one of a kind.

The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS Digital Camera is the world's first rugged camera on the market to include a high-speed f/2.0 lens. Even in low light and the harshest of conditions, you can capture high quality digital images with fast shutter speeds. The flagship of the Olympus Tough model and the toughest Tough model to date, the TG-1 is an exceptionally high-speed point and shoot with fast start-up time, quick refresh rates and a multitude of features that will allow you to take wonderful images in conditions that you never dared shoot before, including underwater.

Speed is not just a product of the faster f-stop. A high-sensitivity, high-speed 12 MP CMOS sensor combined with the DSLR-quality TruePic VI image processor offer rapid shooting and response times. High-speed autofocus, enhanced Intelligent Auto and Super-resolution zoom mean you shoot the images you want at the speed you need. Depending on the size of your images, multi-burst capability allows you to shoot from 5 frames per second to an incredible 60 frames per second. Never miss the action shot these cameras were designed to photograph.

Speaking of action, the Tough TG-1 lets you run directly into it without fear that your camera won't come back alive. Durability is the first word when talking about these new Olympus cameras. Shockproof up to 6.6 ft, crushproof to 220 lbs, freezeproof to 14 degrees F and waterproof up to 40 ft, you can take these cameras almost anywhere, come back with great images of your adventure and go do it all again. In addition to these high standards, the camera has a protective sealant that keeps it dustproof and a water-resilient coating on the lens that prevents water from staying on the lens surface. This is not only a protective function, but allows for clear composition of images and the quick removal of pesky water drops on your lens. And if 40 ft underwater is not deep enough for you, an Olympus underwater housing unit has been designed specifically for the TG-1. Sold separately, the case is O-ring sealed and safe up to 135 ft (45 m) underwater.

A high resolution 3.0" OLED monitor provides visibility in bright light situations, such as snow and beach and allows you to compose and shoot without struggling for a better angle to see the screen. Like the camera lens, the OLED is prepared with a water-resilient multi-coating that prevents scratches, minimizes fingerprints and smudges and further cuts down on reflective glare. This coating prevents water from remaining on the OLED surface and allows for better image composition in rain and surf.

Numerous shooting modes allow you to better take advantage of the camera's speed and durability. The Super Sport mode combines high-speed autofocus and shutter speeds up to 1/2000 of a second to freeze the action into a crisp photo. No messing with the menu when you need to shoot now, the Super Sport mode is located right on the dial and shoots in bursts of five to guarantee you won't miss the shot. A low light mode is available to capture the mood of a candle-light dinner or a sinking sunset, without the unwanted blast of a flash. The enhanced iAuto mode allows the camera to recognize the scene it is shooting and choose the optimum settings. From underwater snapshots to fireworks to snow to backlighting, the camera will sense it and take care of the settings for you.

The TG-1 offers 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD video with high-definition PCM audio technology. The iHS processor provides great colors and high speed while the Multi-Motion Image Stabilizer compensates for camera movement and smoothes out that video you shot while surfing or skiing. Shoot it at 60 frames per second to show off your best jump in high quality slow motion. An HDMI output makes HDTV playback easy.

From durability to speed, from programmable modes to slow motion playback, the Tough TG-1 iHS is a camera that knows its audience. It is designed for and will be loved by those on the go, by those who love to shoot how they play and for those who respect a camera that can live hard, give great results and come back for more.
