Happy with purchase

This is my first waterproof camera and I'm a novice photographer, this model does exactly what I need and want it to do, great pictures very simple to operate, straight forward set up and has been awesome to use on kayak and paddle boarding trips.

Good camera for action shots when you leave the phone at home.

This is a great camera to take on adventures! Went snorkeling and got some great underwater shots. Also went white water rafting with my camera and got some good action shots. Wished it had a little more magnification. Video was great on the zip line!

Waterproof... Not really!

Bought the TG-870, last Thurs for vacation and it failed as soon as it hit the water. We went snorkeling and stopped working because water got in it somehow. We didn't go past 5ft of water. Will return and buy a GOPRO.

Great underwater camera

My dad got me this camera for a long trip in Asia. I used it when going to beaches, scuba and snorkelling. I even brought it inside mud baths and inside pools. The pictures I took are amazing and the camera is in great shape after all it went through! Love the flip display! Only drawback is that as soon as it starts to be a little dark outside, the underwater pictures don't come out as nice.

Compact and Versatile

This is the 2nd camera in line of 800 series I know of, like its predecessor the TG-860... which is a great waterproof choice with wide angle lense , wider than most other brands I tested. I love the flip ViewLCD perfect for selfies on a stick or extended

good design and features for a reasonable price.

While the camera has lots of bells and whistles, cool features and appears well made...hence the 3 stars to be fair. Despite hours and hours of messing with settings and taking photos, the only photos that were in the acceptable range even for its class were outdoor sunlight. Anything else was noisy. The movie capability was the most disappointing. Camera struggled to maintain focus but most annoying of all was the internal warbles, clicks and hum that was captured on the sound track. I had heard about this on prior generation of the series but assumed rare or you'd have really listen to hear. But no, it was a very prominent electronic sound that competed with the sound intended in the movie. I tried various approaches to minimize but I couldnt. Also while I have a relatively current Android smartphone, the Olympus app would sometimes freeze the phone such that it was inoperable for a minute or more were you couldnt do anything at all. I dont recall any app doing that and I have many of them. In the end after only a couple days I sent the camera back, loss of 2 stars.

Solid camera for scenic shots, unstable video ;(

I had high expectations for this camera. I didn't want a GoPro and thought I could get an excellent camera for stills & video. Happy with the stills. Like the 21mm ultra wide lense. Sadly the stabilization for videos is quite poor. I'm a backpacker and like to shoot video while hiking on trail. The shake from this camera can be horrible and I've tried many different techniques to limit shake. I've had to resort to only using this camera for video from a tripod. I use my iPhone 6 for most videoing. Olympus, you could have a real winner here if you improve the shake and put the tripod terminal in the center vs off to a side.

Better than as ever

Several years ago I purchased my first Stylus Tough - 6000. I have two other Olympus cameras, but found that I used my Stylus Tough more and more. The other more expensive cameras soon just stayed on the shelf gathering dust. Several years later I decided to get a newer Stylus and purchased the Tough TG- 870. Many new and more convenient features not found on the old Stylus and I am enjoying these new ideas and features.
