Shopper : what part of telephone receiver do we attach the telephone pickup?RICHARD C : The earpiece does not attach to a phone, it inserts into your ear like a headphone, then you put the phone up to your ear. This makes it possible to record a conversation with a landline or cell phone. It records both sides of the conversation and works very well. One precaution, you must keep the phone on whichever ear contains the TP-8 during the conversation, if you put the phone to the opposite ear it will no longer record the conversation. If you plan to take notes while recording be sure to place it in the ear opposite your writing hand so you can hold the phone with your off hand while keeping your writing hand free.ANTHONY W : nothing attaches; place the earbud in your ear and hold the phone up to that ear like you normally would. plug the earbud into the mic input on your voice recorder. Works like a charm.ERIK B : You do not attach the pickup to the phone. You put it in your ear, like an earphone for listening to music, but it is a microphone. You hold your phone over the pickup, and its microphone will pickup the sounds from your phone, and it will also pick up the sound of your voice. It works very well.DAVID P : Place the Telephone pickup in your ear and place the phone over the same ear and talk normally. The TP-8 will then pick up both sides of the conversation.KIMBERLY B : You don't attach it to the telephone at all. You plug one end into your recorder (doesn't have to be an Olympus...I use a Sony). You plug the other end into your ear (it comes with several sizes of earplugs) and when you hold the phone up to your ear it records the conversation. I love this device because it works with cell phones and landlines. I use it for recording telephone interviews and I couldn't work as a newspaper reporter without it.FRANK C : The Mic portRODNEY F : I feel kinda stupid but I haven't used it yet. But it would go on the opposite side of the phone that you speak into. It works by vibration which is all sound is.

Easy phone-interview recording

I have Olympus WS-852 recorder, so getting the Olympus TP-8 mic was an easy choice. Just plug into your recorder’s mic jack, and insert ear bud into phone ear. The mic picks up both voices. Clear sound without the hassle of juggling phone and recorder, causing noise—or taping them together, awkwardly, with gaffer tape.

Excellent As Always

When I first found the predecessor of this product, the Olympus TP-7 Telephone Pick-up, I was highly skeptical that it would work. Nevertheless, it did. Indeed, it worked beautifully! I don't know if it would have worked as well on another brand of digital voice recorder, but it got me through some telephone interviews where the connection itself was lousy and was almost incomprehensible because of the accents of the interview subjects. I got the cleanest, clearest sound I could have ever hoped to get. Therefore, when my kit was stolen, I did not hesitate to buy the Olympus TP-8 and I'm glad I did.

Terrific item

I write for a newspaper, so this product is invaluable in recording telephone interviews. No more bending my neck over to hold the phone while I frantically type in notes. I couldn't work without it!

Great product, good price

I am a newspaper reporter, so I will use this to record telephone interviews. It is absolutely invaluable for that. It records very clear conversations that I can play back on my computer. This is my second one, and the only problem I had with the first one is the ear piece came detached from the plastic casing holding the wires. It still worked, but the wires are so tiny, I feared they'd break at any moment. So I replaced it. This price was much better than the only brick-and-mortar store selling them, and they have free delivery!
