Already have two Olympus DSLR's. This has almost all the same features including the menu structure in a compact camera and a wider aperture, but it's so much easier to carry around. In a side by side comparison the IQ of the E-620 is better than the xz-2, but the xz-2 still takes great pictures for most applications. I'm planning to take this on my next vacation and leave the DSLR's at home.

Lightweight and small, but still large enough to use for my large hands, this camera creates great image quality with an astoundingly sharp and bright lens. The image software and sensor combo combine for beautiful out of camera jpegs. The sharpness, contrast and color rendition is exceptional... people think I shot my pics with a DSLR. What a camera!

This is good enough to carry everywhere instead of my dSLR. Now, it does not outperform it, it's not magic, but it's good enough. Fast lens, RAW photos, good zoom range, the tilty screen. It's a joy to shoot with, it doesn't draw attention [for street shooting], it's nearly silent. I love it. The only downside, and an annoying one, is that it does NOT come with a wall charger. You have to charge the batteries by plugging the camera itself to either a computer or a wall outlet, making you not able to use it for the measly 5 hours it takes on a wall, or 10 hours on a PC. That is just awful. Get a battery charger, and you're all good.

I bought this camera for it's smallish size and great handling. The control options are fantastic, making the camera fun, and easy to customize to your shooting style. Touch screen focusing/shutter is very handy in most situations. I haven't had it long but overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I do however seem to have a focusing issue under certain conditions which I hope to find a fix or work around. Thankfully, the manual focus assist works very well for those times. Other than that, the camera is very responsive and accurate. You can find camera's the same size or even smaller that offer similar IQ but lack the control options so if handling is a priority for you, this camera is definitely one to consider.

Best used for travel to urban areas and landscape photography.

GREAT Compact Camera, Bright Lens!

The Olympus XZ-2 Digital Camera is a compact camera that delivers exceptional picture quality for 12MP photos and Full HD 1080p video with its backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor and fast 4x wide-angle 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) f/1.8 zoom lens. Using the 3.0" swiveling touch screen with a 920k-dot resolution, you can compose and shoot photos with the tap of your finger, knowing that the dual image stabilization technology will keep your images clear and sharp.
Olympus' iHS Technology combines the BSI CMOS sensor with the XZ-2's TruePic VI Image Processor to deliver excellent image quality, response time and intelligent functions. Watch as the Track AF easily follows your subject throughout the frame, or the camera's Dual IS implements the best stabilization settings for any given scene so you don't end up with frustrating image blur.
Ensuring your images are as sharp as possible, the XZ-2 employs Olympus' Dual IS image stabilization technology, a fast and bright f/1.8 maximum aperture in its lens and high ISO sensitivity up to 6400. Dual IS is a combination of high ISO sensitivity and sensor-shift image stabilization to keep your images steady, even if your camera is not. The f/1.8-2.5 i.ZUIKO lens also helps keep images sharp and in focus because of its fast maximum aperture - this allows more light to enter and faster shutter speeds to be used whenever you're shooting.
For more control over your images, the XZ-2 has a built-in mode dial and the ability to shoot images in RAW format. The mode dial allows you to quickly switch as your situation changes without having to navigate camera menus or change individual settings. Shooting RAW images allows you to capture, view and edit uncompressed, detail-rich files using editing software rather than letting the camera do it.
Eleven in-camera art filters help bring out your artistic side in stills and video, while the built-in accessory port on top of the camera will allow you to continue your creative experimentation. The XZ-2's panorama mode allows you to capture amazing ultra wide-angle vistas by simply shooting three pictures in succession as you slowly sweep the camera across the scene - no tripod required. From beginner to advanced, the XZ-2 combines great performance and quality with a compact and discrete design, making it an easy choice to bring along with you wherever you go.
