Super Sharp lens

This lens is very sharp, even at f1.4. the DOF is awesome... I had the ZD50mm f2, and it is great... but when I see some pictures from other brands with the 50mm 1.8 or 1.4, the DOF look great, but not with mine... until now!! It really help to keep the low ISO in low light scenes. I really like it. It is heavier than my 14-54II and bigger, but it is a great lens. I recommend it to everyone who is looking for a fast prime lens for the four thirds system.

Can't really get much better

Since getting this lens for a Leica Digilux 3 I find I'm using (the superb) Vario-Elmarit 14-50mm package lens less and less. I love the speed of this lens and can produce sharp images even down to 1/15 sec. It's feels made for the Digilux, great balance. If I have one complaint it's the slack aperture ring, I tend to like using aperture priority but the slightest touch can change the aperature accidentily

Works with Olympus E-5

Yes, the lens does work well with the Olympus E-5, with amazing sharpness, high contrast and beautiful color rendition. There is very little light fall off or softness in the edges. It is a fine lens for low-light shooting, closeups of nature, and a medium distance portrait lens (even closer if shooting kids). At f1.4, though, you do have to attend to the limited depth-of-field, which also produces very luscious bokah and soft edges in portraits. It is important to know that on an E-5 the manual aperture ring on the lens does not function, and is simply left on auto. The apertures, which are selected with the E-5's dials, will still be displayed correctly in the viewfinder or on the Live screen. in addition, the manual focus ring does not appear to have any linkage to the body, either. The autofocus is very precise, though, and the zones or spots can be controlled, so this was not a negative factor for me. I have had the lens for several months and have made quite a few shots that I love, especially in evening light, with soft light surrounding objects. The lens, despite its unusual lineage, has an honorary place in my Zuiko high-end family.

The best 4/3 prime

This is an outstanding lens. It shoots and focuses in low light. It brings out details that other lenses do not. I regulary shoot at night with great success. In dimly lit situations it brings out more detail than I can see with my eyes. It is the best lens I own. I use it on an Olympus E-520 with the image stabalization on. I rarley ever use a flah, because it works so well in dimly lit situations. With the e-520 it tens to focus slightly in front of people, somtimes manual focus is needed for those shots.
