I am a photo enthusiast and a member at a local camera club. This camera has it all! It's perfect for everyday photography: small size, great zoom, excellent low light photography and a view finder to boot. In addition, you can shoot raw and burst shooting at 10 frames per second! I use a MAC and they have fixed the problem with raw as Panasonic sent them the driver for the camera. Aperture and iPhoto now recognize the raw pictures. The only problem as noted is the battery charging which is in the camera. I bought a portable charger and extra batteries which solved this issue.

Very small and compact, not much bigger than a cell phone. As a pro photog for 16 years using massive gear all the time I wanted something lightweight to replace my G9 vacation camera. I carried this on vacation in my front pocket for 3 days walking around DC and was very pleased at the quality and the smart capability of the AI setting and was very pleased with the zoom capability and low-light qualities. Although I thought I would like the raw setting capability, I ended up not using it much because the camera does such a good job on it's auto settings I didn't have to change much in post. I only wish it had a flash output control setting, it's either flash on or flash off. The viewfinder was helpful in a few situations, but again another feature I thought I would love, but didn't use much. The battery life was great, the quick start responsiveness was perfect, the image quality is superior to other cameras costing the same or less. I really liked the AI intelligence mode and was pleased how it would detect the scene and then apply the correct settings. Multi-shot combine and HDR were the most used. For several years now I have purchased a small camera just before vacation only to come back and sell it on e-bay because I was disappointed in the results... FINALLY I have found a keeper!

Still a fine photo machine that I'm getting to know & enjoy using. BUT...two negatives should be noted (and probably have, or will be, by others): 1. Very short battery life. Multiple back-up batteries are essential. It's also ridiculous that Panasonic proposes charging the battery in-camera via USB, rather than supplying a battery charger. 2. Now, about that USB cable: quite unnecessarily, it has a non-standard, proprietary connection, so that if you misplace it (as I have promptly done)you are faced with Panasonic charging $22 (!) for this tiny cable, even though you have around the house many standard micro or mini USB cables for other gadgets that could work. Is there really a reason for this cable, Panasonic? Or just a means of making life a little more difficult for your users -- and requiring a couple of other purchases (battery charger, USB cable)that can likely be acquired from third parties at reasonable cost, but that should not have to be bothered with. Most unfortunate to have to grumble so about a camera that I genuinely like. Camera manufacturers should put just a bit more thought and consideration into such matters.

Though still very new, this is doing an admirable job of replacing my Canon G9 as an always-with-me pocket camera. It's considerably more pocketable, produces quite decent (and sometimes slightly better than decent) images, has a greater zoom range than the G9, and (the prime reason for my purchase) fits in a viewfinder that most reviewers said I'd use in bright sunlight but not all the time -- and I use it pretty much all the time. Yeah, it's tiny but it IS a viewfinder and it works, and who else is offering an even half-decent viewfinder on a camera this size! (Well, maybe Fuji, but the X20 isn't quite this size; more like the G9. And, although I was tempted by the X20, I have no regrets thus far about having opted for the LF1.) Nuff said.

I haven't used the camera much yet, but like it a lot so far. The menus are similar enough to those on my 10x Panasonic pocket camera to make learning them easy (Panasonics' menus are my favorites for ease of use), the new controls for shutter speed and aperture size are sensibly-located, and the larger maximum aperture is very useful. I neither like nor hate the size - it is smaller than my 10x, whose size I find ideal for easy handling plus pocketability, but it isn't so small as to make it difficult to use. Being a geezer, I haven't yet seen the need to use the new electronic features so I don't have an opinion on any of them. The only negative comment I have so far is that I'd hoped the tiny "viewfinder" would refresh much faster than the monitor on my 10x, but it doesn't. To the contrary, it is distractingly slow and I haven't found a use for it. (Panasonic's slow monitors make action photography very hit-and-miss for me - seeing what happened a second ago, plus having to wait for the slow reaction time typical of pocket cameras, even after pre-focusing I have to guess when to press the shutter button to capture something interesting that may happen seconds after what I can see on the screen. If their monitors were faster, I think Panasonics would be excellent pocket cameras to use for action photography.)
