Questions & Answers

Terry K : The cons seem to be "no view finder." What does that mean, and can't i see the full shot on the display? why do i need a view finder?RICHARD G : View finder allows to frame picture in extreme light conditions.Display can be hard to see in bright light..I am happy with my choiceDAVID D : Hi, Traditional optical viewfinders are great. You view and compose your shot by holding the camera to your eye and looking through a tiny window which is coupled to the focal length of the lens. That is, it zooms with the lens. what you see is what you get. Most cameras I have owned from SLRs to pocket cameras are so equipped and I prefer to use them for most shots. For one thing, the camera is easier to hold steady as it is braced against your forehead. That being said, it is very difficult to have an effective optical viewfinder with a zoom as long as the ZS10's. 4-5X is about the limit in a pocketable camera. A digital viewfinder is a possibility, but the resolution of those tiny displays is not that great. You simply cannot see enough detail. It also takes up real estate on the back of the camera which is better used for controls and a larger LCD display. I have not had a problem viewing the entire shot at any focal length with the ZS10's 3" display. It is also easier to see than most LCDs in bright daylight. The image stabilization is superb in both stills and movies. All in all, I am very pleased with this camera. It is now my "every day carry" camera. Be sure to flash the latest v.1.2 firmware, which noticeably improves image resolution. Regards, -DavidHAROLD T. K : Almost all point and shoot camera have no viewfinder, optical or electronic because you use the the monitor to compose your picture. This works out pretty good in nearly all shots except for when the sun shines directly on the monitor. This is true for all cell phones. Some point and shoot cameras like the Panasonic Lumix FZ150 have electronic viewfinder in addition to the 3" monitor. Also some mirrorless interchangeable lens camera have this feature as in my Panasonic Lumix DMC G3. Having no viewfinder is no problem in the most cases, even when the sun is out.FELIX S : THERE IS NO VIEW FINDER YOU PUT YOUR EYE UP TO, BUT THE KDDI SCREEN IS VERY GOOD AND IS VIEWABLE EVEN IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. ALAN M : a view finder is the piece where you look though to see the picture before you take it. that has been replaced with a LCD screen. You don't need a view finder the screen is large and shows the picture quite well.
Barb W : I take a lot of pictures of my grandkids and they are always moving. I need a camer that the pictures will not come out blury and also I heard the battery life of this camera is short. I had a different brand camera and it was so anoying when you went to take pictres the camera would die?Km K : Yes, this does great pictures if the people are movingIVAN G : blurry pictures of moving subjects is usually not the issue with the camera rather the lack of experience on users part. Most current cameras if not all are capable of producing acceptable results if you know how to use them. You can read how to shoot fast moving subjects either in the manual that comes with your camera (in this case the complete manual is on the CD) or anywhere on internet. Good luckCHAIM S : The battery is fine. Regarding moving subjects i cannot guarantee Good luck
Shopper : the battery is rechargeable?CHARLES B : Yes. The battery is rechargeable and comes with the recharger.MATTHEW H : Yes, the battery is rechargeable.THERESA K : My camera came with charger that you insert the battery into then plug into the electrical socket. I would check with the person you are buying it from as this may very and either not come with a charger or a different devise. Hope this helps.LARRY R : Yes, battery is a special flat square one that can be recharged. The recharger comes with the camera. You can buy an extra battery is case you want a back up one. The batteries seem to last a good amount of time, but ifyou run low on battery power while taking pictures, you can't just put in a AA or AAA battery.IVAN G : yes it is. The charger comes with the camera, it is rather compact and there is no wire which is nice. Put the battery in the charger and plug it directly in the outlet. Charges within 1 hour - quite fast. It is what they call a proprietary lithium battery - really my favorite type of batteries.

Panasonic Lumix ZS10

I use this camera with the Panasonic Underwarer Housing. I have been diving with a Lumix for a little more than 4 years. I absolutely love the quality of the photo's this camera takes. You can't beat it for a non-DSLR camera.

Great Camera.

the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was the lack of view finder. Otherwise it is perfect

Great camera at a very competitive price

Would be nice to have a view finder but not essential. Somewhat complicated to use, but again, not a real problem.

Lots of camera for your money

This is a good camera to carry around when you don't want to lug an SLR. It's quick, relatively intuitive, and the zoom range is quite handy. I have to say I'm not very impressed by the sensor. When you look at the photos it produces in detail, they have lots of digital artifacts, kind of like some cheesy "impressionist painting" effect you might find in a photo editing program. Granted, this is when you're zoomed way in, but my 6 mp Canon 10D ultimately has better resolution. This is a consumer camera so I'm not really dissing it. It's a great travel/snapshot device. And the video is pretty darn good too.

Great camera, great price!

I got this camera for its size and zoom. I bought a big SLR camera for the zoom, but found it cumbersome to carry around. The Lumix is compact, but has a great zoom. I just recently got it and have taken a few pictures and videos. Very easy to use. I mainly take pictures and videos of my family, especially my kids school and sporting events. So far, so good! My father also got this camera and loves it!

Exceptional value

Bought this to replace similar camera that was stolen! Although same model, this one seems to have a few extra features. I bought it because of the 16X zoom along with it's compact size. No regrets. By the way, Adorama was lowest internet business to buy from (by far) and delivery was very quick.

what it does give is a very nice panaoramic 2d photo, which is a bonus...

I ride motorcycles and especially like GPS feature at this price point it is more camera than others with the GPS. The camera takes great pictures and except for the fact the touch screen seems to have been an afterthought overall the camera is a very strong camera to have in your point and shoot arsenal. I also liked the 3d picture mode while not able to test its capability on a 3d tv because I do not own one, what it does give is a very nice panaoramic 2d photo, which is a bonus...

Great camera

I love this camera. I had a larger Panasonic Lumix camera and used it for over 10 years. It was great and this camera seems to be the same so far but it has the HD vido which is the best.

Great features

Excellent price on this just-discontinued model. Love the 14x optical zoom, much better than my Canon 4x zoom. Like the ability to have more control over shutter speed and other features, similar to my DSLR. A friend bought this camera a year ago and I've been wanting to get it. The price of [$] was excellent! Found this on [@]. Did not rate low light photography high, simply since I have not yet used it under these conditions.

Overall Good Camera But GPS Is A Problem

Overall the camera is good. It has a great zoom and photo quality is very good. Flash seemed adequate too and the photos we took were all very good when we used it on vacation. We returned it, however, because for the price the GPS feature was of interest. It was slow to react & sometimes didn't leaving us missing photo opportunities which is unacceptable for a vacation camera. If you don't care about the GPS feature than buy the model without it and save money. We ended up with a Sony DSC- HX9 and are happy with it.

A Magnificent Piece of Equipment

This camera really packs a punch. It is small, light, precision made, with an excellent lens that zooms from wide angle to super telephoto. I can get better quality only with my Nikon D5000 SLR, but I'm not in the habit of carrying that one around all the time. Example: A hawk perched on my deck railing. In a moment I had the Pananasonic making clear video at full 16x zoom through the deck door glass. The result was good partly because of rapid focus and partly because of the good anti-shake mechanism. This is the perfect camera for travel and general use. Small enough to carry in a shirt pocket or purse, it has good battery life and feels and performs like the precision instrument it is.

The Panasonic DMCZS10R 14.1MP Digital Camera features high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens system which is even more versatile with 24mm ultra wide-angle to powerful 16x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 24-384mm). Comprising 12 elements in 10 groups, including an ED lens and 3 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit suppresses chromatic aberration which tends to occur in telephoto shooting effectively. It also boasts a short total length of lens unit despite its higher versatility with longer zoom range, which is made possible by a development of new mechanism for a structure of lens barrel. The lens system is also compatible with high shutter speed of min.1/4,000 sec.

The 24mm ultra wide-angle lens - rare on a compact camera - gives you a wider range of composition possibilities with approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm camera. The super-high-quality LEICA DC lens minimizes distortion at the wide end. The new 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor integrated in the DMC-ZS10 boasts high speed signal output and high sensitivity image recording for making many advanced features possible. It also enables the camera to record full HD 60i (NTSC) / 50i (PAL) smooth movie. For the effective concentration of light, the newly developed sensor adopts microfabrication technology to achieve even higher sensitivity.

With an advanced micro light tube structure, both color mixture and signal loss are prevented. The result is that the photo and movie shot at any sensitivity from low to high have outstanding clearness. Furthermore, optimization of semiconductor production process achieves dramatic suppression of noise. Together with the picture parameter setting suitable for the MOS sensor, the stunningly clear image rendered by the DMC-ZS10 boasts high picture quality with minimum noise. The camera is acclaimed as an excellent travel companion because of a wide shooting range, hybrid recording capability of high quality photo and movie and a host of travel-friendly functions represented by the built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) system.

The newly added 3D Photo Mode produces a 3D image in the camera. The image-processing method used by LUMIX records beautiful images with less distortion or visible image links. Take 20 panning shots and the camera automatically selects the two most suitable images - one for the right eye and one for the left eye - to synthesize a 3D composite. The 3D image can be viewed on a VIERA HDTV. The 3D image format is compatible with MPO, so it can be played back on other MPO-compatible equipment such as TVs and digital photo frames, or printed.
