Questions & Answers

Shopper : can the battery be charged outside the camera?BRUCE R : Yes but you have to buy a charger. I have the Lumix POWER KIT DMW-BCG10 (Includes 2-1200mAh batteries and pocket Charger). Charger works well and the two spare batteries work fine in the ZS20. If you use the GPS function you will need spare batteries.SUSAN C : Yes, but you'll need to buy the optional wall plug charger.CHARLENE B : An AC adapter was supplied with my camera. It plugs into the camera itself to charge the battery. I prefer this setup, I don't have to remove the battery to charge it.SARAH H : Yes. I bought an optional wall adapter charger and an extra battery. When my battery runs low, I just switch them out and then charge the low battery on the wall adapter charger.EILEEN S : No not I know off. I haven't looked for an external chargeCATHY M : Battery charged in camera - charger that comes with it connects through mini usb port to camera - same cord as used to download pics - can charge in outlet with this cord and provided adapter or just with the cord into your usb port on computer. Great camera for my indoor, low-light, flash photography. Great video too.BRUCE T : Yes, by using the Panasonic DE-A65 battery charger which plugs into an electrical outlet.JOHN C : Not with the equipment provided. Not sure if you can buy an external charger elsewhere. ELIZABETH B : Yes, I still charge the battery separately (outside) the camera. Also old Lumix camera batteries still work.
Shopper : can you charge the battery in an a/c plug?SARAH H : The battery for this model is the same as previous models, so you can in fact remove the battery and charge it with the optional wall charger. I had a ZS-3 and it uses the same batteries. I love this camera and never charge the battery while it's in the camera... I just pop it out and switch it with one that was charged on the wall charger...BRUCE T : I have an external a/c charger from an earlier model Panasonic model which works with the DMC-ZS20 battery (I checked with Panasonic to make sure they were compatible). The external a/c charger is model number Panasonic DE-A65.KAY T : I'm sorry, I answered the question for the previous model, not this one. One this model, you must plug the charger into the wall and the batter stays in the camera. There is no external charger for this model, I don't particularly like this option, as I carry two batteries which means, I can't use the camera if the battery is charging. That is a drawback to me. I believe you can purchase one separately, however.KAY T : Not exactly sure what you mean, but the charger that comes with the camera does plug into the wall. The battery is taken out of the camera and placed into the compact charger and the charger plugs into the wall. This is a great little camera, I've had all previous models, and it is my all around camera on all my safaris to Africa, in addition to my Nikon.KAZIMIERZ S : The battery can be charged only inside the camera. Even the spare battery needs to be inserted into the camera in order to be charged. I am not aware if Panasonic is offering external charger for that type of a battery.SUSAN C : Yes, it comes with a USB cord to plug into a USB port, and an AC Adaptor that the USB connects to and then the adaptor plugs into a wall plug. The optional Lumix Battery Charger is very handy enabling one to charge one battery in the camera and another in the separate charger.PIOTR R : There are 2 ways to charge battery in an ac/dc plug. 1. Keep battery in the camera and connect the camera to ac/dc plug by included USB cable (ac/dc plug not included, use from another device) 2. Remove battery and use ac/dc plug from a previous version of this camera.ANDREW R : Unfortunately, this camera does not include an external battery charger (the battery is charged "in camera"). An external battery charger for the battery in this camera may be found here: <a href="http://www.adorama.com/IPCDEA65BA.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/IPCDEA65BA.html</a>
Shopper : What is the difference between this model and the DMC-ZS19?BRUCE T : My understanding is that the only difference between DMC-ZS19 and the DMC-ZS20 is the ZS20 has GPS while the ZS19 does not.CHARLENE B : I believe the only difference is the zs20 has gps. Now that I have the zs20 I honestly wish I would have gotten the zs19. The gps is confusing to me and it zaps the battery I keep it turned off. The camera takes great pics. In IA mode I took some great pics of hummingbirds at my feeder, clear as can be with their wings stopped in action.PIOTR R : There's only one difference - ZS20 has GPS and embeds into picture file location where it was shot. When pictureisi uploaded into one of photo sites, location of the picture can be displayed automatically.ADAM R : The only difference I found was the GPS feature on the 20.

This Camera suits my photo needs

I wanted another small compact camera that will take great pictures when my SLR is not needed. This is a very good camera.

Versatile p.& s. compact camera

Dear Shopper, The answer to your query largely depends on your expectations and previous camera experience. My own limited experience is that for a p.& s. camera the Lumix ZS20 I.S. feature is very good. Certainly better that older p.& s. cameras I have used. The stabilization feature is equal to my optically stabilized 18-270mm DSLR lens on my DSLR. But if your expectations are that you can hand hold this p.& s. camera at full zoom with constantly good results, then you are likely to be disappointed. Optical I.S. is a big advance but it is NOT a replacement for a tripod or a pillar or tree or other stabilizing object onto which you can place the camera to get a clearer picture and less blur from movement with I.S. activated. No remote trigger, to my knowledge, for this Lumix model.
