Works Ok with GH4

It works fine when connected to the GH4. The camera allows you to select the various modes of operation. They are: stero, shotgun, lens coupled stereo, and really narrow shotgun. However the microphone is not configurable when connected to an external recorder for better audio quality than the camera provides. I will use it when in a run and gun mode since it provides much better audio than the raw GH4.

Pretty good for the price

My only complaint is the mount. You need a real shotgun mount. I heard everything I did with my hand on my steady cam. Thunks and thuds. It is a step above the onboard mic. Mine came with a nice pouch and dead cat. It's not bad for everyday use, but I'll stick with my Sanken CS1 for interviews.

Dedicated Microphone for GH3

I spent some time looking for comparison reviews of this microphone. I ended up purchasing it and then making a YouTube video comparing it to the camera mic (Panasonic MS2 Microphone Comparison). As this is my first external mic, I can't really compare it to Rode, or other brands. Not sure this would work on cameras other then the GH3, as there are no controls on the mic. Switching from Stereo to Shotgun is done by the camera menu. Easy to use and seems rugged. You can listen to the video and make your own decision as to sound quality.

The Panasonic DMW-MS2 Stereo Shotgun Microphone is designed for Lumix system cameras. It comes with a windjammer for attenuating wind noise and enables high-quality audio recording. The holder is designed with a vibrational absorption mechanism. This advanced external mic suppresses the camera's motor noise and handling noise, to capture the sound that you're aiming for.
