The portable Lumix point-and-shoot

This Panasonic/Lumix DMC-ZS100 point-and-shoot digital camera is everything one could want in a camera. I have a DMC FZ1000 which is phenomenal, and this camera is a smaller version, with just a bit smaller magnification. The camera is user-friendly and intuitive, and the pictures I have taken so far are absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this camera, and the bundle is an added bonus!

Awesome camera!

Purchased this camera mainly for video (replacing an old camcorder). The video quality is great and field of view is good. I am a casual camera user and spent a little more for this model versus other Lumix models because of the larger sensor; but also since I'm a causal user I did not need something super sophisticated. The LCD screen is a good size and the touch screen is good quality. I like the compact size of the camera which is great for when I travel. Only downside so far is I wish there was an easy way to charge the battery outside of the camera; this is a minor inconvenience and I plan to buy an external charger and extra battery to get around this.

Nice Small Camera

This camera is SMALL. If you have large hands (as I do) it takes a bit of work to find the best way to grasp it, but it can be done. So far, picture quality is good (both RAW and jpeg), but I haven't had much chance to put it through all its paces. Linking to a phone is a bit of a pain, because this camera does not have Bluetooth. Rather, it uses wifi, which requires that you connect your phone to the camera's wifi access point. But once connected, it works well.

Another great Panasonic Lumix

I really like this camera, and the included accessories are a step up from the low-end stuff that fills out many bundles. Panasonic continues to make good, portable cameras for non-pros. I use this at my kids' sports events and performances, as well as for scenery and portraits. The automatic settings are well-chosen, and the different modes offer direct control. In particular I like the focus ring around the lens, the large rear display (which saves me digging out my reading glasses), having a phone app, having mount points for a single strap or two, and the nice 4k video. The camera has less zoom than my older ZS-40, but its reponse time feels faster and the pictures are nicer. I dislike the tragically flimsy cover for the charging & HDMI ports. It's just a plastic flap, and it doesn't like to be seated in its niche after I use it. Just sad. The included tripod is much better than I expected, and the little soft-sided bag has enough room to slide the camera in with the wrist string attached.

This was a pretty good camera while it lasted

This was a pretty good camera while it lasted l have used it for taking pictures of birds and I liked it but after having it only a year the lens has stopped working and I can no longer turn the camera on. I have had this problem before on an older Panasonic lumix camera, unfortunately this is the only small camera I can find with enough zoom for taking pictures of birds.

Magnificent camera.

Although back ordered it was worth waiting. Great value, masterfully operational and crafted. So potable varied usefulness. In the manual, the list of buttons dials etc, and the photo of the cameras buttons with associated numbers would best be on 1 page

Great even in low light

This little camera is WOW!! There are so many options to explore. I had my first Panasonic over 15 years ago and loved it. I then had a few Nikon and Canon point and shoots, but this Panasonic with the Leica lens has more features and clearer images even in low light. I'd definitely recommend this for the above average novice or pro that wants a small travel camera.

Super travel camera

I took a long tie to pick this camera. It is for travel so size matters... The quality is really good. The 10x zoom is simple to use and does at great job. Picture quality is much better than my previous Lumix camera, mainly due to the much bigger sensor.

Not a webcame

A nice little camera, but I was hoping to use it as an upgrade for a webcam, and it doesn't work well for that. The image is very solid, but the USB doesn't charge while it's working, and so you can run out of power. That's a show-stopper. It would also be nice if the unit had clean HDMI out, and autofocused when it turns on in movie mode and plugged in. (Esp if HDMI out is active.)

Powerful Pocket Camera

The ZS100 is better built and more capable than my ZS50. Panasonic changed the ZS50push button for "ON" to a stiff lever on the ZS100 so that accidental power on is unlikely. The top side mode selection dial has been more deeply knurled and stiffened to prevent accidental mode changes while handling. The 116 square millimeter sensor in the ZS100 delivers sharper photos than the ZS50 28 square millimeter sensor. The ZS100 sensor is large enough to allocate space properly for 20 megapixels. It has an astounding array of features for a pocket camera. I have used it the last two months primarily to take photos of butterflies and dragonflies on my daily noon walk. Here is my favorite configuration: Photo Style: standard Picture Size: Large 20 MP Quality: high-quality JPEG ISO sensitivity: Auto Metering mode: spot Auto focus: spot iDynamic: Auto iResolution: standard ISO limit: 400 Diffraction compensation: Auto iZoom: on Digital Zoom: OFF Shutter AF: on Eye sensor AF: on Auto Focus + Manual Focus: on Manual Focus assist: on Manual Focus assist display: PIP (small rectangle) Manual Focus peaking: on Eye sensor: auto switch to viewfinder Touch Screen: OFF I set the Function 1 button to one-time-autofocus, it is palpable on a little platform in the upper right corner. I use P mode (automatic aperture and shutter speed). When I spot a subject, I use the viewfinder alone to frame the shot. Zoom appropriately. Press Function 1 button to get a quick focus on the subject. Use manual focus ring to rock the focus back and forth over subject in small increments while snapping shots. Later you can pick the shot with best focus while viewing on your computer. The array of settings above gives good photos with little or no need for post processing. If the subject is moving around a lot I switch to auto-focus mode and snap when subject temporarily alights. The sequence: power on, zoom, Function 1 auto-focus, manual focus and snap can be done in a few seconds. I use high focus peaking with blue outlines and set the magnification of the small embedded manual focus rectangle to only 3X to prevent confusion. Panasonic seems to offer a combination of great software features and hardware components at a price noticeably less than their competitors. I have been well satisfied. Read less

Great For Composed Snapshots

Great compact point and shoot camera for vacation and random snapshots. If only it had a mic-in it would be perfect for me since the ImageApp removes the need for a flip screen... when I get the app to work at least.

Great P&S/bridge camera.

Bought this last summer as a "bridge" camera between my smaller sensor point and shoots, and my more advanced APS-C DSLR/MILCs. So far, it's worked well. It takes a bit of tweaking to work with the camera. I've turned off the touch screen as I don't need it much + it was cramping my style a bit when I'd quickly switch from using the monitor to the EVF. I often use the EVF to gain maximum field of view, and it does help with the built in stabilizer in telephoto shots. I've nailed some low light telephoto shots this way, with very minimal shake when pixel peeping. I usually shoot RAW+JPEG, and tweak the Natural profile to appear slightly saturated with a bit of extra contrast for shadows. Whichever profile I use, I always keep the NR setting to -5 as that helps retain more detail in higher ISO JPEGs. Shortly after I bought the camera last summer, I took it to a theater venue in NYC and shot a few hundred photos. I was amazed at the level of detail for a small sensor camera. Not exactly DSLR quality, but much more detail and better dynamic level than one could get from most small sensors.

In my opinion, if you have a cell phone camera you really do not need this Lumix

In my opinion, if you have a cell phone camera you really do not need this Lumix DMC-ZS100 as the picture quality is very similar to the photos one gets with a good cell phone camera! I'm quite certain that their sensors are not much different in size! A One inch sensor is ACTUALLY not even close to one inch in size regardless of how you measure it! It's a deceptive term camera makers use! It's a nice little camera though, with lots of features one does not find on cell-phone cameras!

Great camera

I'm amateur photo but, I have owned many point and shoot cameras and this one has me excited. So many different settings and functions that give me the photos I want. Plus it shoots raw so as I learn more I will be able to process my own pics with the software they have included with the bundle that I purchased. Great little camera

No 180 degree flip screen

I was under the impression that this camera came equipped with a 180 degree flip screen after I read an article that compared it to the Sony RX 100 camera which has one. I will be returning it since it doesn't have that ability. Can't believe they still sell point&shoots without this feature, how do they expect to compete with all the smart phones?

Newest digital camera purchase

Since this was a surprise gift for my husband, I am not really the person to ask. However, after he stopped smiling, when I gave him this camera, he was elated. We were leaving on a family vacation to Bermuda & the Lumix is the camera he had been thinking about for awhile. Fast forward...we just returned home & I asked "so, how do you like your new camera." He replied..."awesome!" So, there you have it in one word!

Great travel camera

Slightly heavier and bigger than my old TZ50, but feels more solid in the hand, and the rotating buttons on top feel sturdier as well. Will fit in a jacket pocket instead of a jeans pocket for the TZ50. The touch screen really makes a difference in accessibility. Image quality is much better than the TZ50 especially in low light condition, and 3 custom settings available quickly from the touch screen. Autofocus is pretty fast and the touch screen allows easy control of the 49 auto-focus points. Didn't give 5 stars because sometimes the menu navigation can get complicated, and even though it's much better than the TZ50, low-light images are heavily processed for noise reduction and it shows.

Lumix DMC-ZS100

Featured packed. Maybe too many for my pea-brained intellect. Great lens in terms of clearity, width and reach. Can't wait to figure out all of the useful features and get my mind around the function keys and 4K video/photo. Auto-focus is fast and reliable. Touch screen is awesome. I didn't think it was needed but is actually a really handy feature. In retrospect, this is my favorite feature. Took this camera on recent road trip to west Texas, New Mexico, Monument Valley and Grand Canyon etc. The weather didn't cooperate but did get some pics of iconic shapes in Monument Valley cast in setting sun. I'd recommend this camera highly. My 4-star might be somebody's 5-star but I would never rate anything with this much technology a 5-star until I fully understood its capabilities and see the results. I do know that I love pulling out my pocket camera and quickly framing and focusing on something that captures my eye and takes a great photo as a result. I have a lot to learn about this camera and photography in general. Also, I chose this camera over the LX10 because of the view finder and reach knowing I was sacrificing the speed and tilting view finder. The viewfinder works well but lacks in clarity but I'm ok with it given the camera's cost. If I want a selfie, and trust me, I abhor selfies, I can just as easily use one of my many other devices that allow me to take a selfie. Attached below is one of my favorite images from my trip. Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park's East Mitten Butte at sunset taken from the lodge in Arizona looking northwest up the valley into Utah. Reduced dramatically from original.
