This is an almost-perfect camera for someone who wants truly high quality photos but does not want to try to be a professional photographer (although many professionals seem to like it as well).

I've been shooting an old Nikon D300 for years. This camera is much lighter and I love the long zoom range. Many updated features , I'm hoping to replace a bag full of SLR lenses and accessories, plus I'm new to video shooting. It should be fun. Love it so far.

The description does not fool you. It is an overall great camera and it has enough settings to fit all the different scenes. It has great clear zoom and a built in leveler which makes sure that all you're pictures are straight even if you're on a slanty road.

I've owned this camera over 3 years. I've climbed mountains, hike through canyons, taken it to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The 400mm optical zoom with the anti-shake on creates excellent handheld images of wildlife even at full extension. Also, you can shoot in full manual mode (very useful for taking pics of Koalas in the trees) or let the computer perform it's magic. Rugged, excellent lens, great price.

I have had several Panasonic cameras FZ28,FZ200,G85 and all served their purpose. The FZ1000 shoots Clear pix from 25mm thru 1600mm. Focus is almost as fast as my RX100m5a. The 1 inch sensor will give you high quality prints. Here are a few pictures to see the camera's ability.

Bought it for my wife. She loves it. Uses it to photograph songbirds. With IQ zoom, optical zoom is doubled to 800 mm.

This product performed Admirably, well beyond my expectations. The build quality is great, ergonomics well balanced. I took this camera up to GLACIER National Park for the summer of 2019. PROS: I found out some interesting discoveries in relation to Shutter speed Settings: Mechanical Shutter ( 1/4000 Second) primarily used for Landscape, Portraits, low light shots and slow moving subjects. Electronic Shutter ( 1/16000 Second) primarily used for wildlife and fast moving subjects. I learned that leaving it in Electronic Shutter I was able to capture stunning details with wildlife.....Incredible. I ditched my Nikon D7000 for this versatile device. 25mm - 400mm reach is super handy. 4K video and 4K Time Lapse, phenomenal Articulated LCD is fabulous 2.3 Million EVF is exceptional Macro Video in 4K brilliant Multiple Focus options Multiple Aspect Ratios big plus Mic Jack superb for videos Ditched the Nikon and 2 Alpha Sonys too. The 1 inch sensor is not as good in low light as an APS-C but that's it. This camera is light and Compact. Image Stabilization is fabulous, wow CONS: Shallow F stop only F8 Wifi Transfer didn't work for my Samsung Not Weatherized Cons are certainly no Deal breaker Outside of these Minor Drawbacks I rate it a 9.5/10

This is an excellent camera - probably the best camera for amateurs who want high quality and flexibility but don't want to carry multiple lenses, etc. My only complaint is that trying to figure out how to do what with the camera can sometimes be intimidating (even many pros have the same complaint about this camera) because the user manual isn't very user-friendly. This camera is now replaced by the M2 version, but as far as I can tell, the changes don't add a lot and this camera is now hundreds of dollars cheaper than the M2r.

I will only be using the Panasonic FZ1000 for 4k video of wildlife, mainly whitetail deer. I took it to the ranch a couple of weeks to try it out. The optical zoom by it's self won't give me the range I need for video at 100 yds plus and I knew that going into the purchase. I used izoom and a couple of times, even izoom + digital zoom and was very pleased with the results. Not trying to put a man on the moon, just trying to document the deer herd. It's a keeper!

This camera takes beautiful pictures. It is very complex to set up, but several YouTube videos by Graham Houghton saved the day for me, with clear instructions and set up advice. Note, this is not a small camera, so not so easy to have with you all the time (like your phone), but when you use it, I think the photos are great. Note, however, I am barely above rank amateur.

I was skeptical at first that it can perform close to a DSLR but I took the chance. I am not disappointed at all. Even though it has only a 1 inch sensor, IQ is not far, if not at par with my full frame DSLR and my APS-C DSLR. I have been looking for a light and smaller travel camera and I think this is the answer. I am getting old to be carrying a full frame DSLR body and several lenses plus a back up camera, when I travel. Having a 25-400 mm lens, capable of macro, provides all my needs. There is more post editing but it is not bad at all. Video is superb too, considering it can shoot 4K. The HD format is very good. The Free-Angle TFT Screen LCD Display is a big help when taking pictures from a high or very low perspective, like macro photography. I can only wish my DSLRs have such feature. There are many other good features of this camera which I like.

I bought this camera for a trip to Africa where I wanted to photograph some of the wild animals. Overall, the quality of the photos has been great for this type of camera and it provides much of the control you would expect in a DSLR. I particularly appreciated the zoom capability of this camera. In addition, I found the accessories to be of high quality. This is not always true of some package deals.

I bought this primarily as a travel camera. I have a Canon 7d with a Tamron 150-600 G2 that I use for bird photography. It is a great combo for dedicated bird photography but too heavy for casual hikes. I also have the Lumix ZS100, but the limited range (25mm-250mm) is not quite long enough. The EVF on the ZS100 camera is so small that it is difficult for me to use. I do like the ZS to always have with me because it is much better than any phone camera and is great for backpacking. The FZ 1000 has the same sensor as the ZS 100, but has a much better electronic viewfinder and a better zoom range (25-400). The camera is light enough to carry on my belt and is fairly quick to access. The lens focuses extremely accurately and quickly. I can customize the C1 and C2 dials to have setups for birds or landscapes with the turn of the dial. The Adorama bundle for under $500 is a no brainer.

I have been an amateur photographer since childhood, creating my first darkroom while in high school, and using a Speed Graphic. I have been using SLR's since the mid-60's, changing over to digital along the way. This is the first camera I have owned in over 50 years that is not an SLR, and does not have interchangeable lenses. It's the best camera I have ever owned. The combination of the Leica lens, the 25-400 zoom, the greatly increased number of pixels, is giving me the sharpest photos I have ever taken. And in low light. All of the other features - video (yes, some would buy this as a video camera. I didn't.) - the burst speed, the many menu options - I am in awe of what this camera will do. I know that I will never use all of its capabilities, but it will make me a far more capable amateur photographer.

Sharp, packed with very good useful features. I am mostly still shooter but the video features are more than adequate for my infrequent use. Stills are great and shooting raw works especially well. I'm not a fan of lumix jpegs, prefer to shoot raw and convert to my liking.

Just learning to use this camera - this is my first Panasonic make .. many features on this camera to learn .. but great lens .. and for us "senior" folks who are tired of lugging around a lot of different lenses this bridge camera is great!! Does take clear pictures … nice clear viewing system. So far very happy and pleased with this choice.

recently got this camera which is in very good condition and great pics - have not used video; however the entire zoom length can only be accessed if the cam is in the IA mode; turning on any other mode and the lens retracts to about 25mm and will not zoom out any further. is there something i'm not doing right or is this a camera malfunction? i work around it works for 90% of the pics i take, but does anyone else have this problem - or a solution? thanks

I'm a Canon DSLR user and my wife complained that she couldn't possibly get the photos I was getting with her point little Nikon point and shoot - so I did the research and bought this for her. Now she's out-shooting me on occasions! Fabulous camera and fabulous range.

Nice to have for a quick day trip with kids and I don’t want to carry DSLR and extra lens. The 4K and video will be nice to have for vlogs as well.

AN ALMOST PERFECT CAMERA IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT
By jschneir
When I first bought the FZ1000 back in October of 2014 I wrote a two page review on it for my students in the digital photography class I teach at Emeritus College in Santa Monica, California. I titled the review” My first 5 days with the Panasonic FZ1000”- Now that I have been using that camera for six months I am even more impressed. I noted in that original review that the FZ1000 used the same battery as the FZ200 which I had and so did about a half-dozen of my photo students. I didn’t ha...

Awesome camera and outstanding photographs
By Photoguy
I have been a Canon fan for many years so making a change to a Panasonic camera was a challenge. I read several reviews on the FZ1000 and it sounded great. My current Canon SX40HS was not doing the job right for me so I took a chance and bought the FZ1000. Very glad I made the purchase because I am very happy with it! The camera is easy to use, very intuitive, takes awesome clear photos and has more than ample zoom and wide angle for all my needs. I was drawn to the super zooms of higher magn...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 Digital Camera offers a true Hybrid Photography experience for everyone. It combines 4K video recording capability (QFHD 4K - 3840 x 2160, 30 fps in MP4) with the ability to switch easily between video and still capture for the ultimate in image creativity. The FZ1000 also enables in-camera playback screen grabs of (3840 x 2160) 8-megapixel equivalent hybrid photography photos from 4K video footage to capture the spur-of-the-moment shots often missed with ordinary still photos.
4K QFHD Video - Vibrant, Realistic Motion
Experience the world of 4K video capture. Enjoy true-to-life, ultra high-resolution images in smooth motion. Plus, the realistic ambience of audio recording with the optional Stereo / Shotgun Microphone (DMW-MS2) with the ability to adjust sound gathering characteristics to match any shooting situation. For even greater versatility, switch to manual operation in Creative Video mode and dramatic slow motion in full-HD 120 fps video.
Express Yourself - Anywhere You Go
The FZ1000 is the Panasonic LUMIX flagship bridge camera with ultimate image quality. The superb images produced with a large 1-inch sensor and all-new lens fully express the limitless depth and sunlit warmth of nature. Its 16x optical zoom brings everything up close, from tiny birds on tree branches to animals crossing the distant horizon. Choose photos or videos in crisp 4K resolution. The DMC-FZ1000 is all you need to capture the world around you, in all its natural beauty.
Large 1-inch 20 megapixel MOS Sensor
The newly incorporated 1-inch 20.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor improves the S/N ratio, making it possible to capture clear images with minimum noise even when shot at ISO12800 / Extended ISO25600. Rich amounts of light help produce impressive defocus with shallow depth of field. The result is truly stunning images in a wide variety of shooting conditions.
Bright LEICA DC Lens - F2.8-4.0 25-400mm
The new LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens is created especially for the DMC-FZ1000. It has an F2.8-4.0 brightness that resists blurring even with telephoto shots and an angle of view that extends from 25mm wide-angle to 16x optical zoom. Comprising 15 elements in 11 groups, including 4 ED lenses and 5 aspherical lenses with 8 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit achieves high MTF value. Adoption of 5 aspherical glass lenses achieves beautiful, evenly smooth defocus with invisible edge line, which is made possible by Panasonic's unique aspherical lens mold technology.
Light Speed AF with LUMIX DFD Focus Technology
A new linear motor integrated into the focus system achieves approx. 275% faster focusing, compared to the conventional DMC-FZ200. In addition new DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology shortens the time to set the focus. It instantaneously calculates the distance to the subject by evaluating 2 images with different sharp ness levels. As a result, ultra high-speed AF of approx. 0.09 sec (wide-end) / approx. 0.17 sec (tele-end) is achieved.
5-Axis Correction / Tilt Correction
The HYBRID O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) + with 5-axis correction gives you blur-less, one-handed video shooting ability. It detects and compensates for the camera's 5 types of movement - horizontal, vertical, axis of rotation, vertical rotation and horizontal rotation. The Level Shot Function detects the image's horizontal line and maintains it even if the camera is tilted. It takes stable video even in high-angle, blind recording.
Smartphone Enabled Remote Shooting / Remote View
With the Panasonic Image App, you can utilize a smartphone or tablet as a remote controller to zoom, set the focus and shoot from a distance.
Easy Share
Instantly upload and share images on social media using the Panasonic Image App on a smartphone or tablet.
Easy Connection
Simply touching an NFC-compatible smartphone / tablet to the camera, or scanning the QR code connects to Wi-Fi.
Geotagging
Tag location information to the image by utilizing the GPS log of a smartphone / tablet and share it to the preferred social media.
Macro Photography to 3cm
Stunning macro shots can be shot with minimum focusing distance of 3cm. You can enjoy shooting close-up shots with the DMC-FZ1000 only to express spectacular details of flowers, insects and so on.
In-camera Creative Control / Creative Panorama
In-camera Creative Control adds artistic and original expression to your photos and videos. Plus, create vertical / horizontal panoramic photos with a unique touch just by swiveling the camera.
Multiple Accessory Options to Choose From
For a more rewarding Hybrid Photography experience, add an optional External Flash (DMW-FL580L) with built-in LCD video light. The FZ1000 videos offer high-quality, highly realistic Dolby Digital stereo sound from a built-in microphone. A stereo zoom microphone features a zoom noise reduction system and a Auto Wind Cut function blocks out most of the noise from background wind. With the optional DMW-MS2 Stereo/Shotgun Microphone, you can adjust the sound gathering characteristics to match the shooting situation. The impressive flexibility of DMC-FZ1000 goes far beyond the limit of conventional bridge camera.
