I was planning to shoot my old negatives with DSLR and I didn't want to go to the trouble of building a neg holder out of cardboard as you see on many YouTube videos. I bought this to hold the neg flat and so that I could shoot multiple frames without too much hassle. I do not own the scanner for this neg holder so I'm not sure why the negs align the way they do in the holder but the neg sprockets top and bottom are visible in the holder. For my purposes it didn't make any difference as I just zoomed in closer to crop them out in camera. The plastic material is rather good and seems durable. Mounted slides do not fit in it, so be aware that you will need another holder for those or you will need to crack them open.
