The hardware is excellent and the CyberView S8 software works well...you have the options of 18 or 24 FPS in playback, warm or cool white for capture, whether you want DVD quality or full HD quality for saves, etc, and you have the option of saving all of the individual frame captures so that you have full editing control in the future (a great option to have for true digital archiving). Sometimes the film DOES get caught, but in the hundreds of reels that I have run it is NOT the fault of the hardware...rather, it is from the film itself, by sprocket holes being damaged or missing, improper splicing/joining of film (if someone used scotch tape instead of actual film splicers it is too thick and will catch), etc. Have no worries about purchasing this equipment...it is made solidly and offers no issues if used and maintained properly. I have had mine for five years or more and any problem I ever had was film-based, not machine based. Buy with confidence.

Superior scanner for consumers who need to scan super 8 film. The "plus" (super 8+) is definitely superior to the previous model and far better than the Wolverine type scanner. Why? A whopping 9mp sensor compared to a 2.5mp or about for the Wolverine, making images sharper and much brighter. Wolverine type scanner relies on transferring at 20fps, the video frame rate required for making movie in "real time", but encoded in a much lesser mp4 streaming format. The Reflecta scans images, later "combined" using the included software, at the actual rate it was filmed. 18fps, or 24fps-sound speed. It also encodes in 720p or 1080p avi files. Takes about 2 hrs 40 mins to scan a 50ft reel, which is 3 min. 20 sec. filmed at 18fps. For the quality results, the scan time is irrelevant. It will scan films without any issues or attendance. Issues some have had with "film stuck" is due to poor tape splices etc. The film will continue w/scan with a tap on the forward button and click option to continue. I purchased mine from Adorama and honestly have not had a single issue. Built and operates like a tank (high quality) and recommended over the plastic, lesser scanners. A must scanner if you shoot super 8 as well.

This is a great option if you have a lot of super 8 film to convert to digital. However, the super 8 film gets stuck a lot and the converter needs to be monitored closely. I also have had issues with the converter not wanting to scan any additional frames after it gets stuck. Overall, I do not regret this purchase, it's just takes patience and close monitoring.
