Review Summary

I absolutely love this camera way more than I expected. Like one of the other reviewers, at first, I wasn't going to get it, but as I looked at it a little bit more plus the extra film included with adorama bundle convinced me. And I have been having so much fun and enjoyment with it! I like the size, the weight, the tactile feel and sounds of it, as well as its looks. Aside from that I'm very happy with the photo quality from the beautiful lens. To me this is worth it to get a real and newly made quality camera with a real lens that can shoot quality pictures. TIP: if you have trouble with zone-focusing, the distances for each icon are on the bottom of the lens. This camera takes great macros too.

Such a fun camera, despite being a victim of expectations. At first I wasn't going to buy it, but the value with all the film bundled in convinced me. Honestly the lack of autofocus is an adjustment, but I got used to it. And I was surprised at the quality of the negatives when I scanned my first roll. The lens is SHARP, and makes the film grain look really lovely. Super accurate light meter too. Though I do recommend setting the exposure compensation to +1/3 for color negative films. The 5 stars may seem surprising but it's just such a pocketable and refreshing camera.

If you like half frame this is a great camera, though a bit expensive for what it is, it has a toy camera like weight to it. I would not recommend it, and you instead buy a used pen f or something similar.

New PENTAX 17 compact film camera.
The new PENTAX 17 is a compact film camera that ties classic photography charm with modern magic. Every feature is brought forward with an intention to provide a one-of-a-kind shooting performance, both for beginners and expert photographers.
In addition to the distinctive image quality created only by a film camera, the design of the PENTAX 17 incorporates manual operations unique to film photography - a selectable zone-focus system, manual film winding, manual film advance lever, and exposure compensation and ISO sensitivity adjustments, each With their own dials. It has a retro-inspired design, with the top and bottom covers made of a solid but lightweight magnesium alloy to optimize the camera body's rigidity.
Double the Shots with Half-Frame Format
The PENTAX 17 gives two 17mm x 24mm pictures within a single 35mmformat (36mm x 24mm) film frame, thanks to it being a half-frame camera. This gives users double the photo count per roll with vertical images akin to smartphone photos.
Choose Your Focus
This new film camera offers several manual operations to make sure photographers are always in charge. This includes a selectable zone-focus system where one can choose the different zones or distances they want to focus on.
Manual Film Winding and Advance Lever
Part of the invisible contract of owning a film camera is you agree to wind the film to the next frame after taking a photo. With the PENTAX 17, you get to do just that. There's a lever for it!
Newly Developed Lens + HD Coating
Old classic camera style meets a new lens in the PENTAX 17. It is a 25mm F3.5 lens, equivalent to a 37mm lens in the 35mm format. To guarantee users clarity and sharpness, the lens is treated with High-Definition coating.
Albada-type Optical Viewfinder
The viewfinder you'll find with the newest film camera is an Albada-type bright frame finder. You can also compose close-up shots more accurately with its close-up visual field compensation frame.
Automatic Adjustment Based on Lighting Data
The PENTAX 17 performs automatic adjustment of exposure settings based on lighting data, becoming more advanced than many manual-only vintage cameras. This makes the PENTAX 17 more user-friendly for newcomers while still providing versatility for experienced photographers.
Seven Shooting Modes
The PENTAX 17 camera contains seven shooting modes, including Full Auto, Slow-Speed Sync, Bulb, Bokeh, Flash, AUTO, and Program Mode. Have the time of your life switching between the modes that suit your style best!
Wide Selection of ISO Film Speeds
This new film camera supports a broad range of ISO speeds from 50 to 3200.
Built to Last
Though it gives off an old-timey look, the PENTAX 17 has solid magnesium alloy top and bottom covers that optimize its durability. The perfect companion for any adventure.
Convenient Note Holder
Need to get rid of the end of the film package ASAP? Look at the PENTAX 17's back cover and find a convenient little note holder. It also serves as a quick reference to the type of film that's currently being used by the camera.
Three Attachment Points for Straps
Carry the PENTAX 17 any way you wish. With three strap lugs, you can carry it both horizontally and vertically.
Compatible with CS-205 Cable Switch
This PENTAX camera is compatible with the CS-205 Cable Switch, an optional purchase. It is ideal to have for its extended-exposure photography in Bulb mode. More creative control - hurray!
