Questions & Answers

Shopper : Does this come with the Li Ion battery, or is it just the grip?STEVEN M : Seeing how after a new and better camera than the k3 comes out the grip goes from 199.95 to 50.00 .I think they should absolutely include a battery and fill the empty sd card holder slot in the grip. Since the grip is costing them less than 20 dollars .ADAM F : The grip comes with two insertable sleeves. One holds a Li battery, one holds AA batteries. No batteries are included with it.SHINGMIN W : No, the battery grip does not come with a battery.TERRY G : My grip came without a battery. When I did buy the camera and grip, I did get an extra battery which they gave with a discount. The camera did come with a battery. Although the grip makes the camera a bit heavier, you don't have to worry about running out of battery life and the buttons on the grip make shots taken vertically with the camera much easier. I'm glad I got the grip.THOMAS R : No, the grip does not include an addition battery. Mine came with an adapter for both the standard Li Ion battery as as well as 3 AA batteries.MELISSA R : Unfortunately just the grip. Your current battery will fit.REMY K : The D-BG5 come alone...No battery included. Great asset for the K3...I always keep mine on the camera, it just feels better and fits better in my hand.HIKMET S : No, it doesn't come with any Li Ion battery. It comes just grip. That's all.CHARLES B : No the grip does not come with a battery. So be sure to get an extra. Or use the adapter that comes with the grip so you can use regular AA batteries.DAVID R : Just the Grip - no battery - but does come with an adapter to use 6 AA batteries. The Grip makes the camera quite a bit heavier and I also seemed to have excessive battery drain when attached.TINA L : The grip does not come with the battery. The grip was included with my new Pentax as part of a packageDAN W : Mine was just the grip and adapter tray to use AA batteries if desired instead of the dedicated battery. (Both)JOE B : My grip came with my K 3 and did not include a battery for the grip, only the cameraDENNIS B : It's just a grip. But, it comes with 2x cradles -- 1 for the Lithium battery; and the other for 5x or 6x AA Lithium batteries. The latter is a real "life-saver". I use the Energizer 9x Lithium batteries with GREAT success. In fact it's the only battery that will "jump back" to nearly full power between uses. However, as with any battery, it will eventually "decay". You'll have to buy the Pentax Lithium battery which (as I recall) is the LI-190 for about $60 dollars. The neat thing about the battery grip is that it can be used with the AA Lithiums without the LI-190 pack.THOMAS H : It's just the grip.DAVE W : No battery.DICK B : No, just the grip. Battery is a separate purchase.BRADEN L : Just the grip is included. I bought a Wasabi Power battery that works well. Be extra careful to only lightly hand tighten it!STEVEN F : You will need to purchase a second battery. You also have the ability to utilize AA batteries with the grip if needed.MELANIE B : Just the grip. You need to buy an additional battery separately.DENNIS V : Grip only, no battery
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Lisa L B : Helps me balance heavier lenses like telephoto lenses. Also makes using portrait orientation much easier. Nice to have the battery backup too.JOCK C : Dislike the experience of spoiled photo moments due to low, or no, battery conditions. No need to carry more than a basic spare, reserve battery in case of an all day shoot that exhausts the capacity of this battery grip when the need exists to get that one last shot The heftier grip is also desirable. Two birds with one stone.

A Must Have Accesory

I never buy a Pentax body (except my Q and k-01) without buying a grip. The Pentax grip is as ruggedly and solidly built as their bodies and adds flexibility and extended battery power. Stick to the OEM version when you buy your next Pentax body - it's worth the price.

Nice addition to my gear.

The weight counters my long lenses and extends the battery life during long sessions.

Pentax grip

This is my third Pentax grip. I won't by a Pentax camera without it. Feels great in your hand. One thing to replace the battery in camera you must remove the grip.

For Better Handling of the Camera

The grip is the perfect accessory for the Pentax, especially if you have big hands. Since getting my first Pentax cameras (a ME and a MX) I have always bought the auto winder or battery grip. Having the extra battery prevent s interruptions in the middle of a shoot.

It works

Perfect. Works like a charm and the hidden SD card has saved me more than once I am embarrassed to say.

Nice features

Although this does add size and weight to the camera, it feels like I get a better grip on the camera when I use this. And the extra battery is great. The shutter release and back button focus button are handy, but not major features for me.

I nice K3 accessory

Together with the K3II I also bought the D-BG5 Battery Grip, I was not sure if it was something necessary however it proved to be a nice addition to my K3II. I really like it because it holds a second battery and has an adapter to hold 6 AA batteries (that someone could find anywhere), also it gives a nice grip on the K3II in horizontal and vertical positions. It is worth spending the money to have this accessory.

No time to stop and chat; I got pictures to take...

...and with this battery grip, I don't have to stop. Batteries seem to last forever. I am using it with the DLi90 Lithium ion battery but it can also take six AA cells. I keep two spare DLi90s (one for the camera and one for the grip) just in case but never needed to change during a shoot (or two or three or...). It also allows for easy gripping in portrait mode with shutter release, quick dials, AE lock, AF, ISO, EV compensation and "green" buttons literally at your fingertips (and that is proper usage of the word, "literally"). The one problem in that the tripod socket is not centered under the lens axis but slightly of to the grip side of the camera so you may want to forego this when doing tripod panoramas.

D-BG5 Grip for K3

Love the balance this item brings to the camera. I have a grip with my K5, and knew this would be as good. To me, a must have for the K3.

The Pentax BG-5, designed exclusively for the K-3, is the perfect match for this professional level DSLR, and optionally accepts six AA-sized batteries as well as the standard lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It features and extra set of shutter-release, AE-lock, AF, ISO, exposure-compensation and green buttons, as well as a preview lever and a dual electronic dials to facilitate vertical-position shooting. It also features the same dustproof, weather-resistant construction as the K-3 body.
