Love it

Great camera. Default setting is to set ISO to 800 even though it will do 1600. Will take in lower light if you read the instructions. Accepts older lenses. Have taken fantastic shots with my old Asahi 50mm (f2.0) and a Vivitar 28mm (f2.8) on the K200D body. AA batteries is a plus. I've got two older generation Nikons with proprietary batteries; can't find them or they cost an arm and a leg. I get over 400 shots with NiMH AA's, easy, and I will be able to buy them 10 years from now. Great build quality, very solid, weather sealed, takes great photographs.

Great Starter DSLR Package

Can't beat this for a first time DSLR, price and image quality are fantastic. The two included lenses are great to start out and learn with but are not that good in low light (acceptable though). The image quality rivals mid range cameras(read most detailed reviews elsewhere), just add some better lenses as you advance to compensate for low light situations. The Metz flash units sold here are the most competative around both in price and performance, look no further, add one and indoor performance is greatly improved. The AA lithium batteries are great (1000-1500 shots), no chargers need to be carried around on vacation, just carry a spare set or find the nearest convenience store! This should be all you need unless you are going into professional photography, at that point a real pro, or semi pro, should know how to pick the right equipment for the job.

Dont spend your money on this junk

This outfit is way over priced for what you get. The zoom lens are slow and very poor in low light Pentax service and support is very poor there is no warranty cards with there products now and you can't register your stuff on there web site it took me over one month to get a lens hood for the 18-55mm lens and the AA batterys are a big joke I used the camera for sports photos continous hi shoting eats batterys I only got 200 shots out of the batteries that came with the camera. If you want a camera for snap shots this is it but you cant push this thing for much more.

I've come back to Pentax!

For the past few years I've been using a super-zoom type camera with manual shooting capabilities. When I decided to go back to a real SLR, I did a lot of research and finally decided to go with the manufacturer of my very first SLR back in the 80s - Pentax. The K2000 does not disappoint - except for the lack of a DOF preview and a very small eyepiece. It's easy to use, relatively lightweight - and I already have a collection of lenses because all my old K-mount lenses fit it. I don't usually use the autofocus, but have tried it and it's pretty speedy.
