Awesome Camera

I switched from Canon to get this camera! Wow, its wonderful. I love the image quality, lens selection, and weather sealing of this camera system. Overall I would say this is a absolutely wonderful system! I feel Pentax releases more Winner lenses than any other manufacturer. Because of the clean image high ISO can produce, you can often times get away with a slower lens. This makes the system WAY more affordable. I highly recommend this camera and the Pentax System.

Great Image Quality, Reliability Issues?

I've only recently started using my K-5 professionally, and unfortunately, thought the dynamic range and image quality are outstanding, the camera ended up needing to go in for service. For a camera I really haven't used all that much in comparison to how some people shoot, it really should have held up better. Dust under the LCD was an issue from the beginning, but Pentax will fix that, but a $300+ repair for a camera body that hasn't been abused and has low shutter actuations is really quite frustrating. I will say, I've convinced quite a few people to switch to Pentax from other brands... it's an amazing camera overall and their selection of lenses, especially primes, is mind-blowing... which is why I stick with the brand. I bought a K-01 as a backup (luckily), and got it real cheap... and as ugly as it is, it's a great tripod camera. It's the image quality that matters, and in this way Pentax delivers.

All what I need

I bought my k5 ii a month ago, and I am so far enjoyed shooting with it in different environments. I have actually shot in a TV studio, in night clubs, in daylight... I shot all of my pictures in RAW and I find that to be a very good idea to take advantadge of the k5 ii full potential. Cropping, Adding some contrast and sharpening is usually all what i need in post processing. All in all I am very satisfied with what this dslr delivers. It's better than the k-5 so get it!

I'm not a professional but have been practicing photography for around 15 years. I own the k-5 and I love it. It feels good, the controls are perfect and it has a ton of features that someone like myself wants. I've been shooting long enough that I need more than an entry level camera and this camera did it! It's got pro-level features without the pro price. Plus, the The k-5 II is only the next step up from the k-5 so you can't possibly go wrong.

Excellent camera!

Used for a variety of uses, sports action photos for school, family portraits, nature, landscapes. The options available make it very adaptable. Controls are pretty straight forward, easy to use.

Pentax K5

I have owned a K5 not the K5 II and decided to sell it. K5 II has addressed some of the bugs I saw in k5 from what I understand. Things I liked. Design Build quality Battery Life Things I did not like. Hard to capture a SUPER sharp photo Auto focusing is not good. Flash is horrible as it over exposes everything Video offers no options and no compression offered Things that made me sell. Operating this camera is like driving a manual car, you cant just give it to someone to take a picture of say yourself and your wife and have it turn out perfect. Pros: Did take some amazing pictures with this cam!

Great value for an amazing camera

Fantastic photo quality and features. I'm very pleased with low light quality compared to my older camera.

About Pentax K-5 II

Pentax is carving out a substantial niche for itself by focusing many of its products on the outdoor and adventure market. Today the Ricoh-owned camera maker introduced two new flavors of its top line camera, the Pentax K-5 II and Pentax K-5 IIs. Both cameras feature a rugged body construction that is water-, cold- and dust-resistant, and are built around the same 16MP APS CMOS sensor. The main difference is that the K-5IIs comes without an anti-aliasing filter, making it better suited for commercial and studio photography, while the K-5 II is designed to be taken to places where the photographer may not necessarily have control over lighting.

Pentax K-5 II Key Features:
16MP CMOS sensor
Anti aliasing filter: reduces moiré patterning
ISO range 100-12,800 native, expandable to 80-51,200
3-inch, 921k dot LCD monitor
Weather-resistant
Shake Reduction Optical
Viewfinder with 100% field of view
7fps burst rate up to 30 consecutive images in JPEG
18 digital filters
RAW or JPEG format

The Pentax K-5 II's magnesium alloy exterior and highly rigid stainless steel chassis is stur dy and lightweight, with 77 seals to keep out dust and rain. The camera is claimed to offer reliable operation down to 14 degrees F, and has a shutter release with a top shutter speed of 1/8000 second, rated to last up to 100,000 shots.

The glass Pentaprism viewfinder offers a full 100% field of view, with a Natural-Bright Matte II focusing screen for easier manual focusing. The camera has a Shake Reduction mechanism that can compensate for up to three stops worth of shakiness, according to Pentax; helpful features include an electric level function with a vertical level scale, automated compensation for distortion and lateral chromatic aberration when using Pentax's DA, D, FA and FA limited lenses (all of which are available at Adorama). You have a choice of three grid patterns while in live view mode.

The difference between this K-5 II camera and the K-5 IIs version is that the K-5 IIs camera does not come with a built-in anti-aliasing filter.
