Pentax KI70 bundle is not worth it

I am convinced after a year and 7 months of using this set that it's not worth the money. I had to have the camera replaced in June 2023. It suddenly stopped working. The warranty department couldn't fix it so they had to replace it. Good thing I bought the 2-year warranty. Now 3 months later the same thing is happening to the replacement camera which was also new. I have to rate the Pentax K70 as faulty. I've barely used the camera. I also store it in a temperature-controlled case so I take care of my equipment. In addition, the tripod is so flimsy it's trash. The part that the camera screws onto is loose and the place where it attaches is unstable. I have to hold it and do gymnastics to use the camera on the tripod. Complete trash. I would look for another brand than Pentax.

The Pentax K70 is a great camera experience

I went to a outdoor/indoor art exhibit for my first photo shot and the camera worked perfectly. Working the camera for the first time was real easy and the photos came out great. This is my first digital camera and I have been doing film for 40 years (and still do), I am hooked on digital now!

Best in class for 2022

The Pentax k70 for 2022 is the best in class for dslr's below $1000. The weather sealing, 100% view finder coverage, ammount of lens choices and in body stabilization are just some of the few features you would need to spend a butt load on. Pentax has you covered though and offers these features in a low cost model with all the quality you deserve. Dslr is a dying market but beyond viable in 2022, save yourself some cash and get all the features you want in amazing camera. I got mine with the accessories bundle, the sd card is great, battery is alright but doesn't hold as big or as long of a charge. Filters are quite nice though and a very small accessories bag to hold it all. Overall I could not be more satisfied.

Camera body and lens is everything they say it is, don't do the bundle.

Overall: K-70 is phenomenal camera. I had a Nikon D40 as a kid, and the amount of new tech they have packed into these entry level DSLRs is amazing. Pentax really gives a good product for the money. However, say a few hundred dollars and avoid the bundle (thus the 4-star review on the bundle, not the camera itself). The camera comes with a battery and charger, so the charger is redundant. You can get higher quality filters, batteries, tripods, and SD cards from other sources, so I would suggest spending your money on better items. Things I really like: The quickshift focus is a very neat feature that this lens/body configuration offers. Maybe that is par nowadays, but I find it to be extremely handy. I also appreciate how customizable every single part of the camera is. Even the dust removal can be set to only come on at the start up OR shutdown OR both. It's almost overkill, but I would rather that than not enough customization. Lastly, having two e-dials (the things you use to change aperature and shutter speed) is fantastic and something that I didn't realize I needed when trying to get a shot dialed in quickly. Things that aren't great: There aren't many cons, but one might be the transfer speed of the micro USB. It is only about 15 MB/sec, which comes out to < 1 pic/sec if you are shooting in RAW (as you should if you have bothered to buy a quality camera). Seems like they could have made this faster. Of course, this is minor to the point of being petty, since you can just eject the SD card and run that much faster. But What's a review without something to complain about? One other con (again, minor) is that the view finder stays on when you have your face on the eyepiece. This minor, but I appreciated that my Nikon had a proximity sensor that would shut off the screen. Pentax doesn't do that, which is fine, but slightly annoying. So, if you are looking for a high-end entry-level camera, you will not be dissapointed! But avoid the bundle.

Pentax bundle

The camera body is exactly what I expected. The little bag is pretty useless to me. The software must be downloaded and installed. I am currently on tour and will only do this when back home.

Pentax remains a great choice!

I?m so pleased that the camera mount remains the same on 35mm and DSLR models.

Pentax K70 first impressions

I've only had the camera for about a month and so far I'm very impressed and satisfied. Although the camera is weather sealed I am not, so I have not used it as much I intend to, but so far the results are meeting or exceeding my expectations. There is much to be learned moving up from a point and shoot camera, but the quick start guide and on-line manual are quite clear and easy to understand. There also many useful videos on YouTube. The quality of the camera and lens seem to be quite good. Adorama's service and shipping are excellent. The camera and accessories were well packaged and promptly shipped.

Camera and Lens great, bundle camera case meh.

I'm liking this camera the more I explore it. I've been using small digital point and shoots for years now. My last full size SLR was a Pentax ME Super from the very early 80s and I had a few lenses so I wanted to use them on this new body. A couple have an Auto aperture setting so this K-70 works well with manual focus, another doesn't but there is a setting in the camera to allow it's use too but you just have to set the proper aperture and shutter speed manually. The bundle was basically free, the extra battery and three filters are nice. I already have a 128G SD card but I'll use the included 64G card for extra storage. The tripod is being shipped separately so I haven't received it yet and can't speak to it's quality. The only negative is the camera bag in this kit is made for is only big enough for one point and shoot camera and maybe your cell phone. I couldn't even my DSLR camera body into it (without a lens, lol) so expect to have to buy a decent bag or backpack for your gear. All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase.

The Ultimate Cost-Effective Photography Solution

This is far more than an entry level DSLR, this is quite a significant piece of technology, lots of features for professionals, point and shoot capability for amateurs and photo quality that turns snap shots into studio quality photos. This kit is complete, including lens, camera body, rechargeable battery pack, SD card, lens filters, and post processing trial software links. I've only had it a few weeks, I'm still learning the features and options that are available. It seems perfect for someone who might be a novice, but seriously wants to learn more about photography and wants a camera that will grow with them as they learn.

Excellent and beyond...

I have own plenty of Pentax cameras for one main reason, quality and reasonably affordable. The Pentax K-70 is no exception. The body details and the performance are at the very top besides being weather resistance. I also have other brands including mirrorless, they are good, but they do not compare to the quality, size, performance and picture quality besides the beautiful two tone body, black and silver. Long term review

Great camera with features that rival more expensive Canons and Nikons. The flip screen is very useful and the image quality is good. I do wish the low light capabilities were better but it does okay. I purchased in 2018 and it has held very well (I am at around 30K images so far). My worries about the aperture block problem are not a problem. The built in internet intervalometer, Astrotracer (you do need the external GPS module for the K-70), multi-shot modes, and night vision display (you can set the LCD to red) have proved very handy. It is great to hold and is light and compact. A great travel body at a great price point.

Great product

Love it! It is easy to handle and learn. In addition to the lens that was included, I am also able to use an older Vivitar macro lens after purchasing the correct K mount lens adapter. Everything (including my extra lens and the adapter) fits perfectly into the carrying case. Overall, it is a great value--I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Great Camera! No issues with light drizzle and snow.

Great Camera! I used it in drizzle and light snow and it did fine. I also briefly used it at 3 degrees Fahrenheit and it didn’t have any issues. I only spent a few minutes (10 minutes) outside with it in the very cold temperatures before returning to my car to warm up.

Delighted

Camera is what I expected. The kit exceeded my expectations. I made this purchase to replace an identical camera, so I knew what I was getting there. I figured the kit was just along for the ride, but when I opened the big box of goodies I was like a kid on Christmas. The price I paid was great for the camera alone, but I will make use of most of the kit items.

Great camera for the price!!!

Haven't had many chances to get out with this so far but so far so good. I really love the rotating display overall and it's real handy for self-portraits. Looking forward to using many of the features I don't have with my old camera - K-5 IIs. So far the exposure has been right on except when shooting in freshly fallen snow where it was underexposured by 1 stop.but I'll know what to adjust it in the future. The body doesn't seem to be as sturdy as my K-5 but I don't know if this is normal these days or not. Overall I'm very happy with it so far and looking forward to using it a lot in the future!

Excellent price for the package. very nice camera

Adorama was impressive in how fast this order was processed. The Pentax k70 was offered at an excellent price. I actually tried to order another one for a relative but they were out! The camera is taking excellent photos, about 500 so far. The items included with the package were good quality but with some duplication that probably aren't needed like two straps , two bags.

As a loyal Pentaxian, I love the rugged outdoor capabilities of the K70 Only wish there was a downloadable alternaive for the included DvD from ricoh. Current zipfiles won't run , error messages keeps asking for previous file to replace.

Impressive camera for the beginner.

I am impressed with all the technology this camera has. It is my first DSLR and I started with a Pentax K1000 as my first 35mm SLR. I have several lenses and was hoping to be able to use them with this camera. I have had no success trying to get these to work. I will probably call this fine camera store and check into their "buy back camera equipment" . I would like to get a nice zoom lens with a few other accessories. I am really impressed with this camera, but I need to practice with it. I am 61 years young and use this for taking rocket photos which I have done for ages. I love this as a hobby.

Great Camera

By JON S.

I bought this camera as a backup to my K-3II. On a recent trip to Baja I really didn't expect to be using it much because the K-3II has the GPS. But, this camera came out more than I expected. I really like it, especially the flip out screen. One thing I missed was a port to plug in my remote cord. I do a lot of wildflower and landscape shots and I needed a way to release the shudder remotely. For most images the 2s timer worked fine, but when I needed more control the K-3II came out. I did ...

It even has some nifty features for astrophotography. Although it is priced as a mid-range camera, as is often the case with Pentax cameras, the K-70 is packed with features, some of which are not found in other brands at this level.

This feature-packed little camera that will be attractive for travel and adventure photographers, astrophotographers and photographers who prefer shooting in natural light. It is available in Silver or Black, with or without a matching 28-135mm WR lens. The Pentax K-70 has an upgraded 24.24 MP resolution APS sensor and a form factor that appears to be a continuation of the mid-range Pentax K-S2. Dustproof and weather-resistant, the camera captures 4K video, has built-in Wi-Fi, a top ISO of 102,400, a flip-out LCD monitor, and an AA Filter simulator.

Sensor: High ISO and Resolution

Despite the camera’s lower price, the sensor’s specs are at the higher end of APS sensors. It can deliver big, croppable 24MP images and boasts a top ISO of 204,800. Sensor-shift Shake Reduction makes this camera a good choice for low-light photography. There is no anti-aliasing filter but, as with several other recent Pentaxes, this camera has an AA filter simulation using Shake Reduction and computational imaging, which is an advantage when photographing patterns and clothing.

Super-high-resolution images captured with 24.24 effective megapixels and a top sensitivity of ISO 102400
The K-70 features a state-of-the-art 24.24 effective megapixel AA Filter-less APS-C sized CMOS sensor for outstanding image quality. By coupling a newly developed accelerator unit with the high-speed PRIME MII imaging engine, the K-70 effectively minimizes noise at all sensitivity levels and captures richly gradated, finely detailed images even in super-high-sensitivity shooting at a top sensitivity of ISO 102400.

Hybrid AF system for high-speed AF operation during Live View shooting
The K-70 employs PENTAX's first Hybrid AF system during Live View autofocus operation. By positioning a contrast-detection AF sensor with superior focusing accuracy and a phase-matching AF sensor on the image sensor's surface, this innovative hybrid system optimizes the benefits of both AF systems to assure high-speed, pinpoint AF focusing on the subject.

Dustproof, weather-resistant body perfect for outdoor photography
The K-70 boasts a fully weather and cold proof design to resist water, fog, snow, sand and dust, for top performance in extreme field conditions. It has been designed for active outdoor shooting through a complete design review of the mode dial and control buttons as well as new grip design that provides a firm hold of the camera body even with a gloved hand.

The outdoor-friendly LCD monitor features a brightness level that can be instantly adjusted to the lighting level of a shooting location, as well as a red-lighted monitor display function, which is easier on the photographer's eye when shooting in dark locations such as during astronomical photography.

High-precision autofocus system with the SAFOX X module
The high-precision SAFOX X AF sensor module assures responsive, dependable autofocus operation. With its 11 sensors including nine cross-type sensors in the middle, this AF module assures pinpoint focus on the subject at a minimum brightness level as low as -3 EV. The speed of autofocus response has been improved, especially at low-illumination levels. By improving the algorithm for moving objects, the focusing accuracy in the AF-C mode has been enhanced.

The K-70 assures outstanding AF tracking performance with subjects on the move, thanks to such advanced features as the Select-area Expansion function, which automatically refocuses on a moving subject after it moves away from the initial point, with the help of the neighboring points and an AF Hold function that maintains the initial in-focus point even when the module loses sight of the subject.

PENTAX-original shake-reduction system featuring the Pixel Shift Resolution System

In-body SR mechanism
The K-70's in-body shake reduction (SR) mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake up to 4.5EV steps regardless of the lens type mounted. The K-70's SR unit has a flexible design that tilts the image sensor unit in all directions, providing a host of handy shooting functions, including ASTRO TRACER, which simplifies advanced astronomical photography when used in combination with the optional O-GPS1 GPS Unit.

Pixel Shift Resolution System with motion correction function
The Pixel Shift Resolution System captures 4 images of the same scene by shifting the image sensor by a single pixel for each image and then synthesizes them into a single composite image. The result is exceptional detail and true-to-life color accurate images. This system also has a motion correction function which automatically detects a moving object during continuous shooting and minimizes negative effects during the synthesizing process.

Innovative AA filter simulator to minimize moire
By applying microscopic vibrations to the image sensor unit at the sub-pixel level during image exposure, the K-70's AA (anti-aliasing) filter simulator provides the same level of moire reduction as an optical AA filter. This innovative simulator lets the user switch the AA filter effect on and off and adjust the level of the effect.

Optical viewfinder with nearly 100-percent field of view
The K-70 incorporates a glass prism finder featuring the same optics and coatings as those used in higher-level models. With a nearly 100-percent field of view and a magnification of approximately 0.95 times, it provides a wide, bright image field for easy focusing and framing.

High-speed shutter to capture fast-moving subjects in crisp focus
With a top shutter speed of 1/6000 second, the K-70 captures sharply focused images, even with fast-moving subjects. Coupled with its high-speed continuous shooting function with a top speed of approximately six images per second, it lets the photographer preserve once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities in beautifully focused images.

Upgraded Full HD movie recording
The K-70 captures high-resolution, flawless Full HD movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels; 60i/30p frame rate) in the H.264 recording format. In combination with compatible lenses, it allows the user to use the Continuous AF (AF-C) mode to keep accurate focus on a moving subject or take advantage of a new aperture control function to automatically assure a proper exposure level even in fluctuating lighting conditions during movie recording.

It also provides a host of distinctive visual effects for movie production, including the 4K Interval Movie mode that connects a series of 4K-resolution still images at a fixed interval to create a single movie file and a Star Stream mode to fade in and out the traces of stars to recorded movies.

Vari-angle LCD monitor for easy image viewing from all angles
The PENTAX K-70 provides a host of wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) functions to support operations using smartphones and tablet computers. By installing the dedicated Image Sync application in a mobile device, the user can remotely check the Live View image, capture still images and adjust such camera settings as aperture, shutter speed and ISO sensitivity to the desired level through the mobile device. It is even possible to download captured images onto the mobile device, then upload them on social networking service websites.
