Ricoh made this really confusing by reusing names of older cameras. There was the GR Digital, GR Digital II, GR Digital III, GR Digital IV, then the GR (?) and the GR II. I have the GR (the 5th camera) and this works great. It isn't a traditional "dumb" shutter release. It actually behaves like the shutter button the camera-- light pressure focuses and "click" fires the shutter. It will hold the shutter open in Bulb mode. Because it has circuitry inside, it requires a AAA battery to work. IT DOES NOT COME WITH A CABLE. It plugs into the camera using the proprietary USB cable with the little tiny grey plug that came with the camera. It will not work with a standard MicroUSB cable. Don't ask me why. If you need to trigger your camera from farther away, you can attach a normal USB extension cable.

Works perfectly on my Theta S, but be aware that it requires a relatively new firmware on the Theta camera. I use is on the selfie stick with the Theta and luckily the tripod screw and micro-usb hole worked ok. But if you want to put the Theta on a tripod, then you will need the ($) Ricoh TE-1 Tripod adaptor make it work. The remote also works fine with my Ricoh GR2 camera. But it is recommended that you use the USB cables that came with these cameras (or at least ones that are wired in the same way).

Grossly over priced and can not be used with Theta S. Yes it triggers the shutter but USB port on Theta S is very close to tripod screw meaning that you can their use the switch or Tripod not both. So what's the point of having a wire switch when you can't use tripod???

Great for preventing hand-motion blur. Cable Switch CA-2
The cable switch is effective for scenes where hand-motion blur tends to occur and also for long exposures when using a tripod for nightscapes or macro shooting. It can do both half-press and full-press operations. Easy to use total length of approx. 2.2 feet / 65 cm (from grip end to connector end).
