Ricoh Imaging is pleased to announce the new Ricoh Theta SC2.

The Theta SC2 joins the current Theta line up as the perfect camera for the 360 Enthusiast. Keeping the same form factor as the previous Theta SC, it is simple, compact, and lightweight. Available in four colors: Pink, Blue, Beige and White.

Features

4K Video
The Theta SC2 is capable of recording 4K video thanks to the same high-speed interface-compatible image sensor as the THETA V and due to the change to the image processing engine support for real-time stitching when recording 4K video. It is equipped with a shake correction function and features up to 3 minutes of recording. The 1-inch type Imaging Sensors provide high sensitivity shooting with low noise

Presets
Several presets enhance your experience with the new Theta SC2.

Face
• Faces are detected and centered in the image. Exposure compensation and noise reduction brightens faces for beautiful looking skin
• If the detected face is in a high location, slant top/bottom correction is sacrificed to bring the face to the center of the screen
• Images are processed to smooth skin regardless of whether or not faces are successfully detected
• Faces may not be detected in image seams. The available detection area ranges up to 85-100 cm

Night View
• This preset is for capturing low-noise shots, and is intended for use with a tripod.
• Image processing is a combination of noise reduction (image composite) + DR correction + face detection.

• This preset independently controls the AE and AWB for the front and rear camera in scenes with extreme differences in contrast.
• Highlight Priority AE in dark scenes captures main subjects beautifully even when they are lit brightly.
• The rear image is placed on the left and the front image on the right for a side-by-side display.

Underwater Mode
White balance settings specifically designed for underwater shooting (approx. 5 to 10 m) have been added.

• The basic app for smartphone is required to change the WB settings.
• WB: Underwater must be set to videos and still images in My Settings
• When the power is turned ON without configuring My Settings, the camera automatically switches to WB: Auto
• The self-timer mode is saved even when the camera is turned OFF, so it is automatically activated when the camera is turned back ON

HDR Algorithm Changes
• Chromatic aberration and fringing are no longer noticeable. Color saturation no longer produces unnatural effects
• Contrast is high in highlights
• Processing time is faster. It is approximately 23 seconds for SC, whereas it is approximately 9.5 seconds for SC2
• Four images are composited in SC, whereas three are composited in SC2. This could result in a narrower dynamic range in highlights

High-speed Image Data Transfer
High-speed data transfer that is approx. 4x faster than that of previous models

Bluetooth Connection
BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) is now included. Shooting is possible even when wireless LAN is connected to the Internet on a smartphone. Shooting is also possible using a Bluetooth remote control
