To be honest I didn't expect this product to be this good. I'm a crime scene photography student and needed a macro lens and after a month of researching about different lenses, I found this filter converter and decided to give it a try, it is super cheap considering the lenses and some extension tubes, so I bought it. I bought it a month ago and I'm love with it, it's great and definitely eliminates the need to go buy a macro lens. To test it I took a photo of my finger, with the DCR-150 attached to a 18-55mm lens and I was surprised, I could see my pores and my ridge details so clear, so charp! If you are looking to buy your first macro lens, forget about it for now, buy this and u wont regret it. Can't wait to try the DCR-250!

I use these lenses with a Fuji HS20 camera currently (and I've also used them with a Panasonic FZ28 and an Olympus SP570UZ). The lens mount is a unique spring-loaded design that fits INSIDE the lens housing or the filter adapters used for specific cameras (such as the SP570's CLA-10 Lens Adapter Tube). Some have said that the DCR-x50's are flimsily constructed - I do not find them so. The plastic housing is very strong and has survived a few drops on my part. Be aware, though, that these may not work as well on true DSLR lenses; I find substantial vignetting when I use these with the lenses for my Olympus E600. I use them for macro images that get closer than I can normally with the HS20's already rather impressive macro mode. The DOF is QUITE thin on these (even more on the DCR-250) and they do take a little getting-used-to - you will note that you can achieve more magnification when you zoom with your camera BUT the DOF gets corresponding even shallower - you'll be focusing with your feet until you get a feel for these accessories. Attached are two images; the burdock was taken with the DCR-150 (camera's onboard flash was used) and the chicory with the DCR-250, (in direct sunlight) both with the Fuji HS20.

Wonderful pocket item for macro when you least expect to need it. Has produced real keepers in the field when no macro lens was in my kit. I was impressed with the overall quality of the shots edge to edge. Really a great addition to any outdoor kit. My only gripe is its made for 52mm-67mm? Whats up with that, with all the 49mm lenses out there? It will actually fit the 49mm but you may have to bend a tab a little to do so. Well worth it. Your only decision is between the 150 version and the 250.

It is very easy to us it - gust snap it on the existing lens ant Yes! I ask for opinion on Pentax forums if I can us it with my lens. I put in on the front on Pentax 18-250mm lens and it works from 200 to 250mm good. For sure you will need a tripod and good light. You my need a lighting ring as well. I magnified a woman's watch to be viewed on the monitor 8" big! See samples:

This is great for macro photography if you cannot afford a real macro lens.

This is a really nice add-on lens. I use it with various lenses on my Pentax K-x and with an adapter on my Canon S90. Easier to work with than the DCR-250, as it has a greater working distance. Of course that means less magnification, but the trade-off is worth it for me.

The "snap-on universal mount" is pretty flimsy so I just bought a stepdown ring to screw it into my the filter threads of my lenses. It's also not exactly universal since it didn't fit my lenses with a 49mm filter thread. I've got several lenses of that size so I just discarded the plastic adapter, screwed the Raynox into a 49-43mm stepdown ring, and attached it securely to my lenses. It produces surprisingly sharp results. It's so compact I can it in my bag at all times.

The DCR-150 has one purpose: allow the camera to focus closely (~8 inches) at any focal length. Thus, when used with superzoom cameras like the Panasonic FZ50, you can get high magnification macro pictures. Like all macro filters of its type, you'll only be able to focus in a very narrow range of distances around 8 inches. There is no degradation of image quality using it; the images are razor-sharp. You'll have a narrow depth of field, but that's unavoidable when doing macrophotography and not the fault of this lens. You'll want to find enough light to use the maximum f/number your camera supports, since you'll need every mm of depth of field you can get. The universal snap-on adapter is wonderful, letting you attach and remove the lens quickly. Raynox also makes the DCR-250, a similar closeup filter that will focus at ~4 inches rather than ~8, if you need even more magnification than the 150 provides. Highly recommended; an inexpensive way to count facets on bug eyes and pollen on bees and all sorts of things.
