Wonderful as both a macro and a telephoto. As a macro, the stand off distance is helpful in getting light to the subject.

I bought this lens a few months ago. I have been using it for some nature photography and it is a very nice lens. Very sharp. I'm a little spoiled and do miss the autofocus but this makes me set up the picture more carefully so I like it. Very sharp images.

Well constructed with excellent resolution. Has manual focus but auto aperture. The tripod mount of the lens is a great help with macro shots. The focusing is smooth with plenty of turning radius. The only drawback for me is that with the lens attached to my Canon 80D the battery depletes rapidly even if the camera is turned off.

It's an amazing lens, sharp, nice colors, and really versatile. Only down side is no image stabilization, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I highly recommend this lens for anyone interested in macro photography. It's sharp, easy to use, and very well constructed -- not to mention beautiful. It *can* also be used for portraits, but bear in mind it's manual-focus-only with a very narrow depth of field. A bit heavy for handheld shots, but no more so than other lenses in its class.

I got this because I am kind of tired of using extension tubes. 150mm is a good focal length and f/2.8 lets in a lot of light. It is manual focus, which makes shooting handheld a bit difficult as the focus depth is very shallow when close up to a subject. This will be much better with a tripod and focus stacking. It arrived from Adorama as promised in good packaging. The lens and accessories were in good shape. There is currently not a lightroom correction profile for this lens, but it really doesn't need much correction. A couple of days after it arrived, I had a chance to go out in the morning to some bright yellow flowers where I new some bees would be and take a few shots. This was all handheld with little breeze. The attached images were shot with a Nikon D750 and have very little cropping (mainly just a square crop). For the price, I really don't have a complaint. The Nikon 200mm macro with auto-focus is nearly three times what this lens costs. I would say that it is a good value.

We know that you want to be in places where no one was so we make our lens perfectly weather sealed and robust
One lens, many purposes
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 is not only a Macro lens - the focal length of 150mm provides an excellent compromise between the narrow field of view desired in advertising and portrait photography. The optical scheme of the lens was designed to achieve the best possible image quality
no colour aberration, no coma, no distortion, no worries!
Best aperture value
The one you need
Sharpness
The unique feature of Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 is an aperture diaphragm consisting of 11 rounded aperture blades so the edge-to-edge image quality stays excellent even when relatively slow aperture values are used.
Bokeh
Another advantage of 11 rounded aperture blades mechanism is to create smooth background blur (so-called Bokeh) with natural transmission between in-focus and out-of-focus areas.
The lens which communicates with your camera
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 lens fully communicates with the camera because of its electronic module (AE):
Focus confirmation - the camera will inform you when properly set the focus point
Aperture control straight from the camera
Auto-exposure measurements with all cameras
Semi-automatic modes (PASM)
All exposure parameters are saved in EXIF data
Smooth and precise focusing
Because of mid-telephoto focal length and a fast aperture of f/2.8, the depth-of-field is shallow so focusing must be smooth and precise. To ensure high comfort of use the lens has a wide rubberized focusing ring with a special notch which combined with a rotational angle of 270 degrees provides quick, easy and precise focus adjustment.
Make it fixed
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 offers smooth workflow on macro setup - if we set the focus point once, we can use the Focus Lock ring to lock the whole construction. It's especially helpful when we're moving with the lens often - during the walk or studio shoots - but we still want to be sure that the proper reproduction ratio is achieved.
There's no such thing as bad weather
Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 lens is equipped with weather sealing in five key places to protect internal parts from unfavourable weather conditions so there are no worries to use it even in harsh environment and weather conditions.
Perfectly sealed with constant dimensions
To seal the entire lens structure even more tightly the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro has internal focusing - the lens doesn't change its dimensions, so there is no chance to get any dust or moisture inside. Also, the front element of the lens stays in the same working distance from the object when shooting so the lens stays compact and convenient to use.
Endurance and agile - Dragonfly Finish
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 is the first lens with the Dragonfly finish, which combines lightweight composite front-housing elements with durable metal parts inside and at the rear-housing of the lens. That combination makes a perfect balance of the lens when mounted on the camera body. The lens offers the highest possible durability with excellent ergonomics of use.
- Deep lens hood -
The Deep Detachable Lens Hood which protects the front element of the lens from damage, rain and unwanted light sources guaranteed the highest possible contrast.
- Rigid lens case -
The Hard Case made specifically for Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 lens allows safe storage and transport. The hard case is made of the hard shell structure with material and zippers are water-resistant and the interior finished by a soft mesh which guarantees appropriate safety of the lens.
- Lens Collar -
The Tripod Lens Collar with standard Acra-Swiss plate. The main reason to use a tripod collar is to provide a more sturdy setup without any vibrations when magnified in macro photos. This is necessary to achieve perfect focus point when shooting small objects. Tripod collar also moves the centre of mass forward guarantees a right balance of the camera on the tripod.
