This G Master macro lens offers up to 1.4x magnification, or up to 2.8x magnification with an optional teleconverter. Advanced stabilization and macro-optimized operability deliver unprecedented control for stills and movies where focus is critical.
Extreme macro with more than a 1:1 ratio
Close-up capability with more than a 1:1 magnification ratio makes it possible to capture details and textures that are normally invisible to the naked eye in creative new ways. This lens offers a 0.26 m (0.86 ft) minimum focus distance.
Breathtaking G Master resolution
Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements suppress chromatic and other aberration for superior resolution right out to the image edges. Floating focus minimizes aberration variations for superb resolution at close focus. Nano AR Coating II controls flare and ghosting for excellent contrast and clarity.

Fast, precise, quiet AF and tracking
Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors drive the floating focus group for up to 1.9x faster AF over a wide range in AF-S mode.
Tracking is fast too, making it easier to shooting active macro subjects. This system easily keeps up with the 120 fps maximum speed of the α9 III. Focus drive is quiet too, making it ideal for movie shooting.
Critical focus for eye-opening macro
Precise focus is essential when shooting with a narrow depth of field, and this remarkable lens ensures that it is easy to achieve. After following a moving subject in AF-C mode, the MF mode can be quickly selected via the AF/MF switch and used with focus magnification to refine and finalize focus.
Quick, easy focus adjustment
If focus is on the wrong subject, it can be returned to the intended subject simply by rotating the focus ring in the lens’s DMF mode. Sliding the focus ring back and forth switches between the AF/MF and FULL MF modes, with the latter providing distance and magnification scales that are ideal for macro shooting.
Customizable focus hold buttons
When using AF, pressing a focus hold button maintains focus at the current setting for as long as the button is held. The focus hold buttons can be assigned different functions for different situations. Focus magnification can be assigned to the focus hold buttons, for example, so that it can be quickly activated for precise focus confirmation.
Natural linear manual focus response
Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise. Linear Response MF also enables smooth, accurate manual focus shifts when shooting movies.
Extra durability for challenging outdoor conditions
Buttons and switches sealed with silicone gaskets, a rubber ring that seals the lens mount, and other measures prevent the incursion of dust and moisture even in challenging outdoor conditions. The front element features a fluorine coating that repels contaminants and makes the lens easier to clean.
