This lens is versatile and sharp especially at about f2.8. It is an ideal travel lens (if your sensor permits heavy cropping).

A almost perfect balance of light-weightness, image quality and AF snappiness. The nice things about sony lens is that many of them have the same 49mm filter size and it keeps things simple. Added weather-resistance would be been nice.

Beautiful lens this - just way too expensive for what it is. I'd go for the 35mm f1.8 & the 85mm f 1.8 & you'd be all set. Get a 10-18mm if you want super wide.

My go to prime lens when out being a tourist or in low light situations, it has that something special even though it is not the sharpest on my A6500. It is worth the money I have found as it spends most of the time on the camera while travelling. Photo shot at night with in camera image stacking feature.

I love the size. I like the look. It is a very nice lens. Just wish it had more magic, or a 1.4 aperture. It is the only choice & I love 35mm (36 as per crop) . This is a 1.8x1.5 or a 2.7 aperture per FF. OK. Fun walk around lens that I use a lot. The other is the 50 mm which (75 effective). Those 2 make a lovely combination. And light enough.

Pricey but definitely worth it! It does everything for you. The depth of field is gorgeous! (But if you don't like a strong depth of field it might not be right for you) The F1.8 is just amazing for video in a low light environment. Makes all portraits sharp and clean so far, can't wait to test it on landscapes. For any constructive feedback: physically smaller would be grandly appreciated.

I did a ton of research before purchasing the 24mmF/1.8 CZ. The lens has surpassed my expectations. The images are amazingly sharp and the bokeh is superb. I use the lens on my A6000 and the combination is outstanding. The lens is well worth the money.

I also have the 18-105 f4 and was really on the fence over this. I took a few pictures of people inside with natural light and they were as good as taking the same picture with my old D810 with a 85mm 1.4 portrait lens. The tone is just magnificent. I highly recommend this lens and it will be on my a6500 most of the time.

Only had this lens for a short time, but it is the best lens to match my new a6500 for all purpose shooting. Previously used on my Sony 5n and made a great leap in the quality of photos taken. Very clear in low light and easy to hold and carry though not pocketable as the 1650 power zoom I use while traveling.

I bought this lens together with my A6500 and both lens and camera fit perfectly. I use this lens to take environmental portrait pictures of children and I'm extremely satisfied with this lens. The lens is sharp and fast and matches perfectly with the camera in terms of size and weight. If you plan to purchase a single lens only for the a6xxx then this is the lens.

I bought this lens a few weeks ago to use with the a6000. I have owned the a6000 for a while but haven't used it much because I also have the A7R Mk2 which as a full frame camera has many advantages. However, my very first shoot with this lens has convinced me to make more use of the camera.I've attached two images to show its versatility...

The sel24f18z is a top quality lens it feels solid and well made. I take photos using the RAW setting and find photos taken with this lens come straight from the camera looking sharp and vibrant they need very little doing to them. Set the camera to JPG and you get the same sharp vibrant photos that show every detail without having to do anything to them. It's also an excellent lens for closeups of flowers etc, the subject is sharp with a nice out of focus background.

Other than the kit lens from Sony a6000, SEL50F18 was my first prime. Price are not too high and quality is excellent. Only problem is it has very narrow angle of view. Hence I started to look for second lens. After debating from SEL1670, SEL18105G, SEL35F18Z, finally I ended up with Sony SEL24F18z which blown my original budget far far away. Yet I am very happy this lens. It is fast and sharp. I let my wife who doesn't really know how to use a camera to do some shot. Her comment is " no focus really required. Just point and shoot". Yet she can get a very sharp photo. So it is good for street photography. I have to confess it is pricey but once you get it - no regret! Strongly recommended!

This lens may come at a hefty price but the quality of the pictures easily makes it worth it. The f1.8 easily creates a nice bokeh picture as well as letting a lot of light in the picture during low light situations. As an added bonus, you not only get the lens but a lens hood and a lens bag.

I use it for Panoramic photos, but also for Macro, I can get a few centimeters from the subject. Great luminosity and details! It is an excellent lenses!

This was the fastest lens that I could get for the Nex-7 camera. It has good edge-to-edge sharpness and performs well in low light, which is what I wanted. Because it is so sharp, I am able to zoom in on a photo and crop it, if I want to focus on just part of the picture.

Note that my rating ignores price. The used price at Adorama was reasonable to me for a lens of this performance level. I assume 24mm is a more difficult/complex design than focal lengths of 32mm or 50mm that cost less. I would need to be wealthier to pay the new price (but the new price did drop recently). I have been using this lens for landscape photography and groups of people indoors and outdoors. The colors and contrast have been great, and the 36mm equivalent focal length (comparing to "full frame") is a sweet spot for my style of shooting. I have the 32mm Zeiss as well, but this one suits my needs more often. Both Zeiss lenses make beautiful photos. Not a creamy bokeh monster due to the fairly short focal length and moderately wide angle field of view, but out of focus areas have a nice look.

Love is an understatement. Yes, you can take great shots with more the much more affordable 50mm f/1.8. Sure. And I did for about a year. But it kept haunting me. The 24mm (35mm equivalent on APS/C) was just so much more of a walk around lens, but with Sonnar T• Coating, Zeiss sharpness and distortion free edges. You can always get closer, yes with the extra emphasis on your presence. But just be less weird, you know? Smile. Be a part of the moment. This lens makes portraits and macros and medium shots so enjoyable to be a part of. The colors are poppy, the contrast is better, and most important the sharpness is astounding. Yeah, though, there is that doubt with the a7 full frame lenses coming into play, but hey. That makes the APS/C even more affordable. The 24 MP promise is more than enough. Yeah I want full frame. But I feel confident with the affordability of this rig. Basically 2k price range gets you a complete set up. No bullish*t. No extras. And you don't have to worry about putting it on a drone. Just go, man. Go, go, go. But a UV filter on it and don't even think about it. It outperforms everything that costs three times as much and approaches a magical quality without spending all you got. That's worth $999 plus a sensor and body. I love this rig. It fits in my hand and I could shoot almost anything with it. If there was ever one lens fits anything this is it. I think they could make a system out of this that had not interchangeability at all. I still have my lens bumping 1.4 50mm. My 16mm pancake, my 50mm 1.8 OSS, and my 16-70 zoom. I'm not selling any of that stuff. But I'd rather move my feet than swap 80 percent of the time. No lie. This lens is the camera. I will never sell it, and it will be part of everything that is good about my craft from this point on.

I purchased this for my NEX 7 a year ago when there were no rebates. And it has stayed on the camera most of the time. Even when I do switch to a different lens, I cant wait to put this back. Compared to the other lenses I have used - 1855, 55210, 16F28 with Wide Angle this produces great color, is pretty sharp wide open and most importantly the images have character. They feel less electronic compared to the other lenses. Of course, there is a steep cost and the fact that A7R has been released and this lens covers only APS-C area will make me think twice about buying it today. However, I have had a great year shooting with this lens and can't wait to shoot more with the NEX 7.

This is a wonderful lens and my NEX-7 go to. AF is rather quick and the images I've made with it appear contrasty, color-rich, and bokeh is very nice. It's ability to focus down to 6" opens up macro-like opportunities and it's speed makes it great for low light. I have noticed a very slight chromatic aberation when shot open in bright daylight, but this could have been an anomoly - more experimentation needed. Compared to manual Zeiss lenses I've owned I'd say that it's fairly comparable, but I have yet to get quite as smooth and creamy a bokeh as with a manual Zeiss-made Makro-Planar. Additionally, it feels like the manual focus ring takes a bit more turning than the manual lens... but I could be imagining that... However I very much like the pictures produced with this lens and would recommend it. The only nit (and it's small) is that the lens cap is tough to pinch open and closed with my apparently too-big fingers! But that's a small price to pay for a great NEX native lens. Recommended.

A beautiful and well-made all-around lens
By Manusnake
This lens is exactly what I've wanted. It's a 36mm equivalent, opens at 1.8. It's the perfect walk-around lens. Sharpness? Beautiful center at f1.8, beautiful everywhere at f2.8, perfect at f4. To get the same performance with Nikon, I,d have to pay twice the price to get the 35mm f/1.4 or 24 mm f/1.4. Both vein also A LOT heavier and bigger. The Zeiss has a lot of personality. Images are very deep, with beautiful separation between front and back focus. I really love the character of this ...

My favorite lens
By Asiafish
What can I say, this is my favorite lens. I am a semi-serious amateur photographer with a fairly extensive kit built around an A77. My A mount lenses cover about 99% of anything I would ever want to photograph, including specialized lenses for portraits (Minolta 85mm 1.4) and Macro (Minolta 100mm F2.8 Macro). What my A77 kit does not do well is travel light. I bought a NEX5n for casual use, but was dissappointed in the speed and characteristics of the kit lens, so the Zeiss 24mm was my first ...
