The lens boasts a fast aperture of f/2.8, making it ideal for low-light photography and creating a beautiful bokeh effect. It's compatible with Sony Alpha cameras and is designed to maximize the full potential of today's advanced still and movie cameras.
The lens features two high-precision XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two ED (Extra-low dispersion) glass elements, and two Super ED glass elements. These elements, combined with a floating focus mechanism, control aberration and ensure sharp, clear images at all zoom and aperture settings.
Despite its advanced features, this lens is the smallest and lightest F2.8 24-70mm zoom in its class, weighing just 24.6 oz (695 g). Its compact size and excellent mobility make it a versatile choice for a wide range of shooting situations, from portrait and landscape photography to low-light conditions.
The lens also features a new 11-blade aperture unit that enhances bokeh by controlling spherical aberration. Four of Sony's original XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors and a floating focus mechanism ensure fast, precise, and quiet autofocus with excellent tracking.
The lens also excels in close-up performance, with a minimum focusing distance of just 8.3" (0.21 m) at 24 mm and 11.8" (0.30 m) at 70 mm. Its Nano AR Coating II technology effectively subdues flare and ghosting, ensuring excellent clarity for live streaming and similar events.
The lens also features a dedicated aperture ring, click/de-click and iris lock switches for direct, rapid control. A zoom smoothness switch and customizable focus hold buttons add to the ease of use.
Designed for outdoor use, the lens has an updated dust and moisture-resistant design, with silicon seals around buttons and switches and a rubber gasket around the lens mount. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, making it easier to clean.
