The Sony 28-70 F2 is an incredible lens. It's actually a lot lighter than it looks it's a great option. If you do not want to carry a bunch of primes for photography great cause you're beautiful look it's clean, but it has some character and for video. It's amazing because there's very minimal breathing so your breathing compensation does not have to be on which buys you some room to be a 28 mm but still if you'd like to shoot wide, I would still consider getting a GM 24mm 1.4 to go with this lens. This lens is expensive but when you consider what it does, you actually save a lot of money and space in your kit you could easily run around with just this one lens and not feel bogged down by carrying a bag full of primes.

It is a valued addition to my tool box.Great for keeping the ISO down when you don't need a wide angle in a tight space. clear and sharp

Great overall! Surprisingly balanced and does not feel too heavy. I handheld this with the A7R V around NYC for a full day with no problem. Very sharp, close in terms of my 35mm 1.4 GM but to have zoom at f2 is wonderful and convenient.

It is an amazing do-it-all lens that I am super pleased with. Having f2 in a zoom lens makes it perfect for low-light wedding and event photography. This is a great middle ground between fast primes and versatile zoom lenses. The only downside for me is the heavy distortion at 28 mm. Hopefully soon there will be a lens profile correction for lightroom and some in camera distortion fix for video.

My only fault is that this lens really should have been a 24-70 f2. This is what the wedding market wanted. For weddings that extra 4mm can be crucial. I could have lived with the extra weight. This is the only reason I would not give it 5 stars

Be captivated by the Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM Lens, a groundbreaking addition to Sony's G Master series that redefines the standard zoom lens category with its constant F2 maximum aperture. This lens is meticulously crafted to deliver prime lens quality, making it an ideal choice for professional photographers and videographers who demand exceptional performance for portraits and a wide range of other subjects.
The lens's F2 aperture, coupled with its advanced optical design, ensures unparalleled sharpness and contrast, rivaling that of prime lenses. Its compact and lightweight design enhances mobility, offering extraordinary creative possibilities for both still photography and videography. The smooth, quiet power zoom is particularly suited for movie shooting, with autofocus capabilities that remain active even during zooming. Built-in optical stabilization works seamlessly with in-body stabilization, including Active Mode, to significantly reduce blur in video footage. Additionally, focus breathing is expertly controlled to minimize shifts in the angle of view while focusing, ensuring smooth and stable imagery. The lens also supports body breathing compensation, with metadata that allows for compensation during post-production editing.
Experience sharp, refined rendering with this unique constant F2 standard zoom lens. The optics feature large elements crafted using advanced techniques, including three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, which ensure high corner-to-corner resolution at F2 throughout the zoom range. One ED (extra-low dispersion) and three Super ED elements effectively reduce chromatic aberration, while Nano AR Coating II minimizes flare and ghosting. The floating focus system enhances close-focus resolution, and the renowned G Master bokeh adds a stunning dimensionality to your images.
This compact, mobile lens is packed with superb optics and functionality, delivering image quality that rivals the best primes. Innovative technologies, including advanced optics and XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors, are housed within a lens that measures only 92.9 x 139.8 mm (3-3/4 x 5-5/8) and weighs just 918 g (32.4 oz). Enjoy stress-free shooting with all the advantages of a standard zoom lens without compromising on image quality.
The lens's precise and tenacious autofocus tracking, powered by four XD linear motors and the latest algorithm, ensures reliable focus tracking and instant response. This is crucial in professional scenarios such as weddings or sports events, where missing a single frame can be detrimental. The lens is fully compatible with the 120 fps burst capability of the a9 III, maintaining smooth tracking even while zooming.
Designed for refined, expressive movie production, the lens effectively reduces focus breathing for smooth movie imagery with minimal angle-of-view instability. Rack focus and zoom effects can be achieved with the F2 depth of field, creating natural transitions that guide the viewer's eye. Achieving critical focus for high frame rate 4K 120p/FHD 240p recording is straightforward, thanks to the quiet operation of the XD linear motors and a new aperture unit. Body breathing compensation is also supported.
Operability and reliability are tailored to meet professional needs, with Linear Response MF providing intuitive focus control. The adjustable zoom ring torque allows for easy customization, and an aperture ring with a click ON/OFF switch offers hands-on aperture control. Two customizable focus hold buttons provide additional flexibility. The lens's dust and moisture resistance ensures reliability in challenging outdoor conditions, while a fluorine coating on the front element effectively repels contaminants.
The G Master series lenses, including this model, elevate imaging and expression to new heights with a stunning blend of extremely high resolution and softly dissolving background bokeh. The lens configuration includes extreme aspherical (XA) lenses, aspherical lenses, Super ED glass, and ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, all contributing to its superior performance.
The MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) chart illustrates the lens's ability to reproduce fine details, showcasing the degree of contrast achieved between finely spaced lines. This lens is an essential tool for those seeking the advantages of Sony's E-mount lenses for video shooting, enhancing your video creation experience with its unique capabilities.
