The sony 35mm 1.4 G must be their most underrated lens. Granted at 1.4 things look a little hazy. But anything above 1.4 is truly a joy to look at. Best bokeh I have seen from a 35 for a dslr. It is really smooth and creamy. Not to mention at f1.7 or 2.0 This is sharp and lovely. I gave it a 4 out of 5 only because at 1.4 the image looks a little hazy. But after 1.7 it's gone. Some samples from thi slens can be found at the SonyAlphaImages.com gallery listed below http://www.sonyalphaimages.com/standardgallery.php?lenstype=1861&showall

I am using this lens on my a7R with the EA-LA4 and it is a wonderful combo. I thought about buying the Zeiss FE 35mm but this one is just to good. Fast focus, nice build quality and creamy bokeh. The resolution of the a7R really makes this lens shine. Plus it's just a little faster than the Zeiss. The only drawback is the extra length created by the EA-LA4 but for the performance I can live with it. It balances well on the a7R but I do use the grip.

Yes, it is a bit heavy and expensive for a 35mm, but you get what you pay for. And good glass is heavy. I first played with this lens at the Sony Store here in NY City about three months before I decided I had to have it. Now, half the time when I go out shooting, this is the lens that's on my Alpha 77. It's bright and fast. It's everything I could want in a top quality pro-level 35mm lens. I like to interact with complete strangers on the street, catching them returning a smile, or sharing a new tat, and this unobtrusive hi quality lens has never let me down.

A fast wide prime for expressive freedom
The fact that this 35mm F1.4 prime G Lens delivers superb image quality is no surprise. Creative photographers will really appreciate its 35mm focal length, considered the most versatile by many pros, and its bright, fast F1.4 maximum aperture that enables low-light shooting, makes it possible to increase shutter speed to capture fast action, and achieve gorgeous background bokeh when needed.

Fast F1.4 aperture
9-blade circular aperture for smooth bokeh

With its 35mm focal length, this superb lens closely reproduces the natural angle of vision of the human eye, making it ideal for both general photo-imaging and fine-art photography applications where zoom capability might distract you from concentrating on aesthetic properties of your subject.
Superb prime lens quality for low light - An F1.4 maximum aperture makes this superb lens ideal for snapshots and ambient-light photography while providing extended depth-of-field control.
Sharp, high-contrast imagery - Premium G Lens optics, including molded aspherical glass elements, achieve consistently high resolution and contrast right down to the lens's bright F1.4 maximum aperture.
