I brought this to use on my Sony A7CR as my day to day camera I tried all three lens and found the 40mm to be the best With 80mp you can still crop and have a great quality photo

Small and light, great for street photography

light, compact and very sharp. works very well with both my bodies (A7R3 and A7CR), but especially with the A7CR for a light and discreet street shooting combo.

Best one prime solution

If I could only have one prime lens on my Sony bodies, this would be it. Compact size, great ergonomics, sharp, beautiful rendering and a versatile focal length. Short of an RX1R, this the one-prime solution. Love it. The 24mm G is excellent, too. Now all we need is an FE 85mm/2.5 G and I can duplicate my favorite travel kit of sharp, tiny DA limited primes from the Pentax years, but this time in gorgeous full frame. Get on it, Sony.

Sharp, compact, lightweight, beautiful design

Extremely sharp wide open, the center is already optimal from f/2.5 and the corners barely improve from stopping down. It is weightless when mounted on a camera, the ligthest lens i've known. The build quality it top notch, the focus ring is like using a real manual focus lens and the aperture ring is very satisfying and useful. AF is extremely fast and silent. Very happy overall!

Great Lens

An excellent little lens, and so sharp.

I bought this for when I needed slightly wider than 50mm, for when I shoot portraits, as I already have the 50mm f1.8, and the 40mm is compact and really sharp.

First Sony lens Ben a canon shorter since 2004 Nikon before that. It seems to be first of all sharp second good contrast and flare is minimal. I would definitely recommend it if you like small lenses.

Best color for a plein aire painter

I'm using an Alpha 7c for its full frame and raw format. I generally paint images within a 100 feet and I'm tried of taking photos that average the color I see. With the programing in the Alpha 7c and this lens, I can capture those variations and highlights that make my paintings without a lot of notes. Lens with a lot of glass and optics don't.

Lovely little lens

I really like my FE 40mm f2.5 G lens, it's my main walkabout lens. I prefer 40mm to both 35mm and 50mm. This Sony lens is lovely, it feels great in the hand, it is small, light weight and very is sharp. Its also really nice to have a proper aperture ring. Thoroughly recommended.

Super sharp, ideal field of view

I have had this lens for a year now and it's hardly ever off my camera (an A7IV). Build quality is superb, I love the 40mm focal length as it matches what I see and the image quality delivered is top notch. Tack-sharp corner to corner, smooth backgrounds.

Perfect standard lens

One of the important reasons for migrating to Sony was availability of this lens. My favorite focal length is 40mm, and whilst it would have been even better if the largest aperture was F2.0, I am very happy with the lens as it is. I would have liked even more if the lens was smaller in size, but I understand the reasons for being this size. Quality wise, this lens is excellent. I particularly like its super fast AF with A7 IV. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for an all day carry on lens. The lens seems to have imperceptible distortion, which is really good too.

If you like small lenses?..this is a phenomenal one.

This lens is amazing. Crazy sharp, even wide open. Resolves amazing detail on my A7Riii. Great colors as well. Super small and focuses fast. If you like small lenses, you will love this one. I switched to Sony for their lenses and this was one that convinced me. It?s not cheap but you definitely get a quality lens with this one. Love that it is weather sealed as well. The lens hood looks funky in my opinion but the tapered shape does protect the lens well and is very functional.
