I purchased the Sony A7 IV in October 2024, and after using it alongside my Sony A9, the conclusion is clear: the A7 IV is a less durable camera in almost every aspect. The main issue I encountered is the rear screen. Even with a protective glass applied from day one, the screen still ended up cracked under normal use. I never experienced this problem with the A9, which confirms that the A7 IV is built with weaker materials. For a camera at this price point, that is disappointing. Overall, the camera delivers on image quality and features, but its durability is not at the level required for demanding professional use. In photography, where equipment must withstand real working conditions, specifications on paper mean very little if the body cannot handle the workload. In conclusion, the Sony A7 IV offers strong specs, but the fragility of its screen and the overall lack of sturdiness compared to the A9 make it a poor choice for those who value long-term reliability and resistance.

I am very, very pleased with my purchase of the Sony A7 IV camera through Adorama. The last time I used a full frame camera was a Pentax 35mm film. The pictures are beautiful. I've only been viewing them on an iPad and I can't wait to do some enlargement prints. This is a great low-level professional level mirrorless, and it has tons of features, but the visible controls are traditional so I could charge up the battery and start shooting with great results. If you're willing to go a little over $2k, you won't regret it. Adorama is always great to deal with and worked with me on some camera/lenses trade-ins. If your thinking about going full frame, give this camera some consideration.

I recently upgraded from the Sony A7 III to the A7 IV, and I couldn't be happier! Sony has addressed every issue I had with the A7 III, making the A7 IV a substantial upgrade that is absolutely worth the extra cost. The difference between the two cameras is night and day. The improved autofocus system, higher resolution sensor, and the incredible dynamic range have completely elevated my photography experience. The user interface feels more intuitive, and the additional customization options make it easier to tailor the camera to my workflow. The A7 IV truly shines in both photo and video performance, offering a level of versatility that the A7 III just couldn't match. If you're on the fence between the A7 III and the A7 IV, I can't recommend the A7 IV enough. It's a no-brainer upgrade for anyone who wants the latest and greatest in Sony's lineup. A big shoutout to Adorama for their excellent service-my camera was shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. I've always had great experiences with them, and this was no exception.

I was ready to switch to a full-frame camera. I have used Sony gear since I started taking photos with my Minolta (Sony) cameras including a film camera purchased in 1978. I like the build quality of the cameras as well as the feel in my hands. I determined that the Sony A7IV would be sufficient for my personal needs. Yes, it doesn't have the bells and whistles of say the A7RV, but it is about $1000 less. The menu is easy to use once you get used to the layout. I do not use the camera for videos, but that is my preference. It does have several options for doing video should you be interested in that function. The camera can shoot at 10 fps. Again, Sony has faster cameras, which is not an issue for what I photograph. I have enjoyed the camera, and have not found it lacking in my style of photography.

I was expecting to like this camera, but I love it! I purchased this camera and lens for an upcoming trip and wanted to be familiar with it before we left. I have taken it out on a few trail runs and absolutely love it. Super sharp images, and much easier than I thought to make the change from Nikon to Sony. I was looking for something lighter to travel with and the Sony Alpha a7 fits the job perfectly.

This is a great value. Is it the best bag? No. But does it work fine, carry a body and 3-4 lenses? Yes. It's built well enough and it's great quality for the price. Perfect starter kit in my opinion. Saves a lot of money on getting started that you can invest in better lenses.

Switched from Nikon to Sony.
By David T.
I came from Nikon DSLR and mirrorless cameras to Sony. I?m very impressed with the A7 IV. It has excellent image quality, incredible autofocus, and it has a nice big grip.
Significant AF and Video capability improvements over A7 III
By Linkmodo
A7 IV offers a significant improvement on AF and Eye Tracking (for both humans and animals), better skin tone rendition, better Video capabilities, flip screen, and better ergonomics. LCD and EVF got a slight bump-up in resolution but are still low-res compared to A7R offerings. New 360 flip screen is harder to tilt up and down for quick raise-camera-up and lower-camera-down shots, with A7 III, it's a mere flip up or down, now with A7 IV, have to first flip the screen to the left, then rota...

- Alpha a7 IV Mirrorless Camera -
The full-frame 33MP Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor delivers outstanding speed and superb image quality. The use of copper wiring contributes to higher transmission speeds and faster AD (analog to digital) conversion, while fast sensor readout enables 10-bit 4:2:2 4K recording up to 60p. The sensor also provides improved color reproducibility, low-noise performance at all sensitivities, 15+stop dynamic range and increased AF (autofocus) speed and precision performance. Experience improved levels of color gradation and detail rendering as well as soft, natural-looking human skin texture.
BIONZ XR Engine for 8x Processing Speeds.
The BIONZ XR engine, also used in the Sony Alpha 1 and Alpha 7SIII models, provides up to an 8x increase in processing speed. The engine concentrates real-time processing of AF (autofocus), image recognition and image quality adjustment to minimize processing latency for greatly increased movie and still processing power. User interface, network and file management processing is distributed to deliver fast response regardless of real-time processing load.
Beautiful Images, Reduced Noise.
Building on the capabilities of the back-illuminated Exmor R image sensor, the powerful BIONZ XR processing engine reveals even higher subjective resolution combined with exquisite detail and texture even in medium and high sensitivity ranges. Impressively low levels of noise are achieved throughout the standard range of ISO 100-51200 (expandable to ISO 50-204800for stills and ISO 100-102400 for movies).
Wide, 15 Stop Dynamic Range.
Taking advantage of the camera's full dynamic range of 15 stops, the Alpha7 IV uses image data from the sensor's 33-megapixels to render remarkably delicate detail in landscapes and scenery. This stunning image quality is based on Sony's unrivalled experience at the front lines of both still-image and movie creation.
4K 60P Recording.
The Alpha 7IV gives you an impressive range of video recording options. Full pixel readout without binning allows 4K 60p recording in Super 35 mode providing high-resolution smooth footage that can be edited to 2x and 2.5x slow-motion when rendered to 30p or 24p in post-production, and 4K 24p or 30p full pixel readout without binning in full-frame with 7K oversampling. For highly detailed and rich 4K content.
7K Oversampling for Beautifully Rich, Detailed Images.
Thanks to the increased 33MP resolution, the Alpha 7 IV oversamples 7K when recording full-frame 4K movies at up to 30p, resulting in high-resolution, highly detailed 4K for beautifully expressive, rich images. Select the mode that best suits your purpose, and let the camera deliver.
Beautiful Color Expression Made Simple with S-Cinetone.
The Alpha 7 IV supports S-Cinetone, based on expertise gained through development of the VENICE CineAlta professional cinema cameraline. This look is responsible for the beautiful skin tones for which Cinema Line cameras like the FX9, FX6 and FX3 are widely acclaimed. It delivers natural mid-tones for healthy-looking skin color, plus soft colors and gorgeous highlights. It's easy to create a more expressive look for your movie imagery without post-editing, since S-Cinetone is processed in-camera.
Visual Depth Of Field with Focus Map.
Answering requests from professional creators, the brand-new Focus Map feature lets you easily visualize depth of field (DOF) and which areas are in and out of focus when you're in movie mode. In use, focus information (depth map) is overlaid on the display of the live view in real time. Areas in focus and within the set DOF appear translucent, while areas out of focus behind the DOF appear blue and those in front of the DOF appear red. Focus Map can be used in autofocus and manual focus modes and greatly enhances the ability to check focus and map depth of field.
Sony's Smart AI Based Real Time Tracking.
The superior power of the BIONZ XR processing engine has led to improvements in both Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking features. Improved face detection translates into 30% better eye-detection accuracy compared to Alpha 7 III. AI (Artificial Intelligence) is used to detect and track the eyes and face of the subject (human, animal or bird) with extremely high precision. Real-time Tracking allows you to select your subject and then leave tracking to the camera, relying on the latest subject recognition algorithm and high-speed analysis of spatial data by the processing engine.
Instantly Turn Your A7IV Into A Live Streaming Webcam.
All it takes is a USB connection to turn the full-frame Alpha7 IV into a high-performance webcam. There's no need for complicated, advanced setup; just connect the camera to a computer or smartphone via USB, select "Live Stream (USB Streaming)", and you're set. You can choose from four different output formats, including high-resolution 4K video and simultaneous internal recording is also available, giving you broad flexibility to cover a wide variety of needs.
Handheld Movie Shooting with Active Mode.
Active Mode uses the camera's stabilization unit, gyro sensors and sophisticated algorithms for highly effective in-camera optical image stabilization during movie shoots. The powerful processing engine precisely detects the required amount of compensation for smooth stabilization in all formats, including 4K, without compromising the Alpha 7 IV's compact size and mobility. And, because the gyro data is also recorded alongside the video, even more effective post-production stabilization can be applied for ultra-smooth shots using Catalyst Browse/Prepare software.
