Significant AF and Video capability improvements over A7 III
A7 IV offers a significant improvement on AF and Eye Tracking (for both humans and animals), better skin tone rendition, better Video capabilities, flip screen, and better ergonomics. LCD and EVF got a slight bump-up in resolution but are still low-res compared to A7R offerings. Experience improved color reproducibility, low-noise performance across all sensitivities, and a dynamic range of over 15 stops. The sensor also enhances autofocus speed and precision, rendering soft, natural-looking human skin textures and vibrant color gradations.
The Alpha a7 IV utilizes the BIONZ XR image processor, also found in the Sony Alpha 1 and Alpha 7S III models, offering up to an 8x increase in processing speed. This engine optimizes real-time processing of autofocus, image recognition, and image quality adjustment, ensuring fast response regardless of processing load.
The camera's noise reduction capabilities are impressive, with low levels of noise achieved throughout the standard range of ISO 100-51200, expandable to ISO 50-204800 for stills and ISO 100-102400 for movies. The 15-stop dynamic range allows the camera to render delicate details in landscapes and scenery, leveraging the sensor's 33-megapixels.
The Alpha 7 IV offers a range of video recording options, including 4K 60p recording, 4:2:2 10-bit recording, and 7K oversampling for highly detailed 4K content. The S-Cinetone feature, based on Sony's professional cinema camera line, delivers natural mid-tones, soft colors, and gorgeous highlights, creating expressive movie imagery without post-editing.
