The Sony A9 is still the tool you need to do fantastic work at any level of photography. It's fast, simple, robust, and loaded with key features you need to be successful. It is an affordable workhorse.

First Mirrorless camera I have own after many DSLR’s. A little bit of time to get used to smaller size but matched with a Sony lens……amazingly fast focusing, no significant noise at high ISO’s, 2 card slots. Can be customized with various buttons in any way you want. I like to take pictures of birds. 20 images per second is perfect to catch them in flight. With the fast focusing..hard to miss your shot. Could not afford the A911 and not sure what advantages it has, but this camera is really excellent

Just got my hand on this beast of a camera and its insane. It was an expensive camera at lunch in 2017 but considered a very good value for money camera and offered essential features like Eye tracking continuous AF, Black out free 20fps and maintains same color across the color fidelity in high iso range is something that world has never seen before and that remains still the same. Interestingly the price has come down by a huge margin and its close to a7riii which makes it a no brainer and the best value camera for 2021 period. Just one catch, there is no Slog or HLG for video and I really wish sony with give picture profile to this beast. On the other hand the A9ii got a bit incremental update nothing that can beat A9, its all the same with fast transfer capability for hardcore on field sports shooter.

Fantastic camera. Use it all the time. Preferred it over the a7riii.

Impressive camera in so many ways. Incredible autofocus, and the ability to shoot at 20 frames per second without any image blackout is revolutionary.

This camera is everything and the best backup camera I have ever used supporting the A7RIII

This camera is everything as a backup to my A7RIII. The only reason the RIII is my go to camera is because of its video capabilities being more superior to the video on the A9.

This was the right purchase for me. The weight is right for me, so it is comfortable to carry and use for long periods of time. It was easy to set up and start using. Absolutely love this camera!

Wow! This camera is insane! I had a Sony A7R III, as well as a Sony A7 III - kept the A III and am selling the A7R III because I decided I didn’t need 42MP, and the A9’s focusing and no-blackout 20fps was very enticing. Let me say, the A9 lives up to all of the hype you can read about it. The no-blackout 20fps is ridiculous, and the focusing? Oh my, the focusing! After firmware 5.0, the tracking focus is mind-blowing. I have never had an out-of-focus photo using this mode. It’s truly astonishing. Photos look stunning and the color is spot on. I feel bad that I’ll probably be using my A7 III less, as I love that camera as well, but the A9 is a revelation!

I decided to make the move to mirrorless and Sony seems to be the best on the market right now. I have always been a Nikon user, so it was a little hard to make the jump. I'm glad I did. The Sony Alpha A9 is a solid top of the class professional camera. I especially like the autofocus features of the A9.

I bought an a9 after switching all my equipment from Canon after 20 years to Sony. I was somewhat suspicious when I got the camera since the box had been taped shut, but still looked new. It wasn't until I did some aerial shots that I found several spots on my sensor. At first I thought it was a dirty lens but after cleaning all my lenses, I did some more aerial shots and found spots on all the photos in the same locations. It was very apparent to me that they sent me a camera that had been returned by someone else. Of course it was after the 30 day period that I noticed it so I couldn't return it. Needless to say, I'm not happy with Adorama as this isn't the first suspicious item purchased. I have gone back to using B&H where I never had a problem with quality.

Kit was delivered in 2 days, oddly they sent me an email saying I had to call into confirm some payment details, turns out they just wanted to check my social media...I suppose to see if I had a following and might be doing a review, after all this is a serious kit. For whatever reason, they still got it to me the next day, and I would rate 5 stars because all the gear is awesome but the box looked like it had been delivered by Jim Carrey at the beginning of Ace Ventura (checkj youtube ace ventura delivery if you don't know what I'm on about), two corners completely smashed in and one huge rip that had been taped over at some point (could fit both hands through it easily), most likely happened after it left adormama but who knows for sure. Regardless, because I also ordered the Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW Backpack (5 stars on that badboy right there, its dope and has excellent build quality and storage) and the backpack took the grunt of the smashes and cushioned the lenses and camera thankfully. There was no bubblewrap or peanuts in the box, it was all just tossed in, it filled the space so they were not rattling around but I mean really? I think we can spring for some protective polymers on that kind of budget. Free VIP360 was also really cool I liked that alot, will def keep ordering from Adorama instead of B&H when they have the item in stock/not backordered. Review will be up soon on my YT CallMeFrost if you care to see how and kit/lenses/filters

Wow, I already like and own other Sony cameras, but in the short time I have had this camera, I'm so excited with what I can do with it. I've already had a chance to shoot some college football and surfers and impressed with results. Its so quiet too, which in high speed mode makes me wonder if its actually taking photos... it is!

You haven't experienced photography without experiencing silent shooting. The Sony A9 gives you that and zero blackout while shooting. It changes the way you approach subjects. Merry Christmas!

Camera is tack sharp and clear. Matches nicely with the 100-400mm GM lens. Adorama is my first choice for purchases.

Great camera!! Unbelievable AF system. I use the A9 and A7R III and between those two bodies I can cover everything from wildlife to portraits to weddings. The Sony E mount system has truly exceeded my expectations. So much easier on weight than traditional FF options from Canon and Nikon. All the E mount lens offerings are also top notch.

I have enjoyed using this for sports ( with 70-200 2.8 GM for HS football and volleyball so far) as well as events (24-70 2.8 GM) where the silent shutter is fantastic. For example, I photographed a school play - any shutter sound at all would have been disruptive so this was the perfect solution. I have the 400 2.8 on order which will really make it the complete package for me. Only regret is that it does not have anti-flicker which is very handy for shooting at HS football fields. Maybe a firmware update since the A7RIII has it . . . .

Focus tracking is very good, and the camera can operate in complete silence. Viewfinder is also excellent - much better than the A7RII and A7III. If you need to change quickly between AF-C and AF-S, you can do it with this one since it's on a wheel, but it's not as easy as on the Nikons I came from. Sony is spot on with the technology. Now they just need to work out the ergonomics. If this camera was in a body like the Nikon D5, it would be photographic perfection.

"Exceptionally fast and accurate continuous auto-focus, tracking, IBIS and 20fps in Electronic Shutter Mode… these are just a few of the many knockout features that sold me on the Sony A9. Pair all of these along with a 24 megapixel sensor (what I consider to be that sweet spot for wedding and portrait photographers) and rugged weather-sealed construction, and you can’t ask for more!"

It has been a good week for Sony. Just days after learning that they had risen from the world’s #3 to #2 camera maker, the Japanese electronics giant made the long-awaited blockbuster announcement of their new flagship camera, the groundbreaking Sony a9. Featuring the world’s first full-frame stacked CMOS sensor that delivers 24.2mp resolution, blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20fps and 693 focal point phase detection AF points, the camera offers unprecedented performance for a pro-level camera.
What only α9 can do
This mechanism-free camera can deliver a-class-above performance conventional mechanical SLRs have only sought. For example, this system realizes a totally blackout-free viewfinder while conventional systems can only try to reduce blackout time. A high-speed, vibration-free, silent Anti-Distortion shutter vastly extends the range of shooting situations while a mechanical system can only aim for lower vibration and quieter shutter release sound. α9 provides continuous tracking of moving subjects for foolproof AF/AE while traditional SLRs can only challenge such AF/AE performance improvements. Moreover, α9 allows its viewfinder to show not only images of the subject — available on conventional systems — but also the final image of a shot. Now, thanks to a new image sensor that superbly manages all these roles, you can surpass all expectation with α9.
Note: This camera is equipped with electronic and mechanical shutters. The features described in this section are primarily related to electronic shutter operation.

Groundbreaking full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor and BIONZ X processor team up for 20fps continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking. Stunning high-speed performance and ample buffer let you capture the decisive moment.
Non-mechanical electronic shutter eliminates blackout with typical SLR mirror action. An uninterrupted view of the subject is available even during shutter release, with 60fps live-view capability and minimal display lag in continuous shooting.
Light directly reaches the image sensor without mechanical interruption. An ingenious fusion of mirrorless construction and new speed-enhancing technologies provides AF/AE at the full-frame focal plane.
Electronic shutter speeds up to 1/32000 sec. far surpass mechanical shutters for a new imaging expression. You can also maintain shallow depth of field without an ND filter, even under bright conditions.

An anti-distortion electronic shutter allows silent shooting without mechanical mirror and shutter noise. It’s ideal for sports and subjects that demand quiet operation, greatly expanding camera versatility
During SLR shooting, mirror shock and shutter release shock cause subtle vibration. α9, however, has a vibration-free electronic shutter that can keep the camera stable, for razor-sharp images.
The phase-detection points on the surface of an image sensor — 693 AF points — covers approximately 93% of the image area. High-precision performance assures your focus on subjects.
Capture fast-moving subjects with reliable rapid AF. The speed and accuracy of this Fast Hybrid AF System are further improved in combination with the enhanced BIONZ X image processing engine.
Uninterrupted AF and optimized AF algorithm dramatically enhance AF accuracy and tracking. Even during shutter release, constantly activated AF lets you continue tracking random subject motion.
Eye AF for more precise focusing
Eye detection — enhanced by 30% through improved face detection — keeps the subject’s eye in focus, even if the face is turned at an angle or partially shaded. Wide focal-plane phase-detection AF sensor shows its ability in challenging shots.
Reliable even in low light
Capture subjects with high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV-3 at ISO 100, due to the high sensitivity image sensor.
A-mount lens AF support
Focal-plane phase-detection AF system with 693 AF points functions reliably. Enjoy up to 10fps continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking even when you use A-mount lenses with a mount adapter (LA-EA3).
High sensitivity, a back-illuminated configuration, gapless on-chip lens architecture, and other Sony innovations deliver stunning images in a wide range of photographic situations. Standard ISO range is ISO 100-51200, expandable to ISO 50-204800 with minimum noise.
Utilize high-quality imaging that unites all available image sensor technologies — including back-illuminated structure, gapless on-chip lens architecture.

Enhanced image processing combined with new front-end LSI reduces noise while improving detail depiction over a wide sensitivity range. Improved detail rendering enables lifelike texture reproduction.
Uncompressed 14-bit RAW is a good choice in situations where the sensor's wide dynamic range and fine gradation reproduction will benefit the images being captured.
High-resolution quality of 4K movies
Full-pixel readout with no pixel binning makes it possible to condense approximately 2.4 times the amount of data required for 4K (the equivalent of the amount of data required for 6K) into 3840 x 2160 4K output. This oversampling process plus full-frame pixel readout without binning results in the highest possible 4K movie image quality.
The new 3686k-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) shows a clear image with fine detail. The ZEISS® T* Coating greatly reduces reflections. Smooth EVF images realized by 120fps frame rate even allow you to easily track a subject in fast motion.
New body-integrated 5-axis image stabilization unit offers a 5.0-stop shutter speed advantage. The live-view monitor image is also stabilized, so you can compose images easily even when shooting a fast-moving subject.
A newly developed NP-FZ100 battery offers approximately twice the life of the previous NP-FW50. Capture up to approx. 480 still frames on one charge — and further increase the number of shots with an attached optional vertical grip (sold separately) that can hold two batteries.
Use two slots — one for SD and one for SD/Memory Stick cards — to simultaneously backup still/movie data, save RAW/JPEG images to different cards, and copy between cards. Lower card slot supporting UHS-II type cards is available for fast transfer speed.
A new terminal for wired LAN connection lets you transfer still images to an FTP server for viewing and management. Since FTPS (File Transfer Protocol over SSL/TLS) is supported, image files can be encrypted while being transferred.
A new My Menu feature lets you register up to 30 menu items for instant recall, arrange items in any order, and erase unused items. Also, primary menus have been reorganized for smoother search and operation.
