Questions & Answers

TERENCE L : Will this charge batteries from the USB cable connected to a laptop, not plugged into the wall socket?JACQUES G : Well, the unit has a blue USB port (likely USB 3.0). So, I would think that it could be charged via that port. However, I have not tried that. It does work very well by plugging into a standard wall outlet.EDWIN J : According to the directions supplied, the charger must be plugged into a wall outlet for either charging a battery pack or for use with a USB cord connected to your device. In the latter case, after setting the output switch to "USB POWER 5V 1500mA", it will supply your device (i.e. camera) until it is charged. I bought the charger to charge 2 batteries I have for the Sony RX 100.GREGORY S : No -- the unit must be plugged into a wall socket in order to charge batteries in the unit. There is a USB connection in the unit, but it is there to pass electricity to other devices that have a micro-USB CONNECTION, such as a cell phone. And even there, it cannot charge a battery in the unit and a USB connected device at the same time. You must physically move the switch on the unit to do one or the other.JONATHAN S : NO! There is no USB connection on this device.JACK H : Yes, it has a switched to change between 110 volts and USB. A USB cable is included.
Shopper : do you use the micro usb for charging or download pictures ?Micheal W : Charging sometimes, normally just put card directly into MacANDREW R : There is a USB charging port and supplied micro USB cable that will charge compatible Cyber-shot cameras, as well as standard USB-charging devices.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JEANELL MARIE J : ReviewsSTACEY C : for SelfPATRICIA R : I picked this item to replace the one I lost.WILLIAM W : Correct for camera and supported by SonyPatrice D : Because you suggested itJAY H : I wanted a charger to charge a spare battery outside the camera.JAMES H : It's easier to charge the batteries this way.GARY C : Simple and convenient. Do not like to charge battery in camera.

So far, so good

So far, so good. The flip for the different types of batteries threw me off initially, but it's really self-explanatory once you look at it more closely.

Fast Charge

Works great, fast charge. A must for Sony RX100 VII users. The great RX100VII is a great compact camera. It can also be a battery hog, so I always have 3 batteries with me, two to shoot with & one as a backup. The Sony charger helps as it charges fast as compared to charging thru the camera. wish it was cheaper, but you do get a reliable charger & the bonus USB charge outlet for your phone is cool.

BC-TRX Battery Charger better option that charging through the camera!

This battery charger is a must have. For 18 months I tolerated recharging my Sony battery by plugging in the camera - I NEVER should have waited to order the BC-TRX Battery Charger! I would strongly encourage anyone purchasing a Sony camera (any camera) that does not include a charger to purchase one. I'm very pleased with the BC-TRX Battery Charge.

Works fine, but has a flaw

The charger works just fine, but the battery attachment is awkward. The battery doesn't snap in place, but is barely holding. Besides, you can insert battery wrong side and it holds just the same way. NP-BX1 is inserted into this charger the opposite way compared to how it sits in FDR-X3000 camera which is really counter-intuitive. I wish this was a charger specifically designed for certain battery type instead of supporting different kinds and doing it such clumsy way.

Brand Name Charger For Brand Name Batteries

Very pleased with the performance and quality of this Sony charger. I am rotating a set of Sony NP-BX2 batteries and have found no issue with any of them and their compatibility with this charger.

Good

Love the speed of charge and it lasts. Better for if you don't want to charge battery in camera as well which was the main reason I purchased and it has worked perfect for me.

Charger works well

This charger works well. It works with two sizes of batteries. The instructions included (from Sony) show how to flip a lever so that you have the proper size for the battery you are charging. I had a little difficulty seating the battery correctly in the charger the first time, but I have had no trouble since. I do like the lights that show the progress of the charge.

Sony charger

I've got the HX400v camera and purchased the charger to support the built-in charger. The instructions are not the best and battery being a NP-BX1 I thought the charging position was 'N' however i finally noticed on battery a big 'X'. Once in the correct position the charger work as it should.

Quality as usual from Sony

Easy to use, much simpler than having to connect the camera to the computer to charge the battery, and the USB power is also convenient for charging other equipment.

Multi Purpose Charger, Only One needed

This unit is a little bit bulky to carry around, although it has retractable connector. It took me a while to figure out how to use this charger until I found there is lever to flip to accomodate different type of battery. It is so handy that I need to carry only one charger during business trip or on vacation. It charges many different type of SONY camera batteries, but for me I need it for two different camera batteries NP-BX1 for DSC-HX50V, NP-BN1 for DSC-TX30, it even comes with USB connector (you need to flip the lever to switch beteween battery charger mode to USB charger mode) so I can charge cell phones and tablet. Only thing I need to be super careful is how to insert/seat the battery onto the unit, it appears to be very loose, especially when I use it for NP-BN1. (again, obviously it has some kind of protection circuit, so if I inserted battery wrong way, yellow light flashes)

A very worthwhile accessory

The charger allows you to charge a battery for your RX100 in 90 minutes, outside the camera, instead of tying up the camera while changing the battery in the camera with the OEM charger supplied with the camera. It also is strong enough to run the camera and comes with USB output as well. It's bundled with a battery which makes it a great deal. I gave only 4stars for design, be ause you have to carefully seat the battery in the charger to make sure the contacts line up. If you have done it right , the charging light comes on, then multiple green lights tell you what fraction of the charging is completed.

Sony BC-TRX battery charger

The external charger allows charging of batteries not tied down to the camera. It shows the charging progress (many cheaper ones don't). And, it allows charging a number of different battery types. Also, it handles 110V and 220V without the need of a separate transformer. And, it charges slowly -- the best way to charge batteries safely and for longer life! (It does not come with the European adapter but that is trivial.) Very good product, worth the extra money.

Charges good but Expensive

I cannot rate the reliability, I have only had it a couple of weeks. It is difficult to get the battery in exactly the right place for charging, it gets better as you get used to it.
