The stylus had a light drop and it didn't break the tip as some other mentioned. But it went into a phase of "ghost" writing. That is, the paper would sense the digitizer even the tip was like a millimeter away without touching it. As the tip was a bit wear out, I thought the situation may improve as I replaced the tip. But the "ghost" writing thing persists for a minute after I replaced the tip. And suddenly the stylus simply went dead and the paper refuses to detect it. I tried to put the stylus on charge (the charge light is still on). But after several charges, still nothing works.

The stylus does not charge correctly from the very beginning. After a ten seconds the red indicator turns off and the stylus stop charging. Even after trying every advice available on the internet (change usb port, do not press the tip...) the stylus is not working. This make the Digital Paper useless. This problem is quite frequent among user. Inadmissible for the price of the device.

There's a huge flaw in the design of the stylus: if the nib breaks (which is very easy to do) the whole stylus is effectively broken as the broken nib is impossible to retrieve. Why doesn't Sony allow other pens to work on this device as once a nib breaks the entire tablet is no longer usable as a note-taking device?!

I got the digital paper and stylus as a gift a month ago and I was very excited about it. However, the stylus CANNOT charge from the very beginning! The red charging light would disappear 10 - 30 seconds after the stylus is connected to my laptop. It's very frustrating because I followed the charging instructions and tried many many many times. This is definitely not the standard for a $80 stylus.

I use the pen for less then 6 months and the pen battery now least for a few hours of usage... I lost my usb cable and I use another one that i use for my phone.. I noticed that the charging is disrupted if the tip is pressed (???) but even when I'm hanging it so the tip won't be pressed - it's still stop charging after less then a minute.. (picture added) so... what's the big deal...? also the pen is too thick to buy it a silicon grip and the pen itself is really painful to use for more then an hour...

Wife bought this as a birthday present as I had an eye on the device for a long time. As they dont sell it in the UK, she paid extra to have it shipped over from US. Hardly used it, dropped the pen accidently, tip broke off with a small bit left inside. Such a poor design, no way to get the tip out, basically Sony is forcing you to pay for a new pen. Now I have a glorified PDF reader with no way to edit or take notes, having to revert back to normal pen and paper. Pens which dont break if you drop them. Ironic really when this device is supposed to replace pen and paper.

As plenty of others have pointed out, the stylus tip breaks off in a way that leaves part of the tip lodged inside without any way to retrieve it. The first time this happened, I was under warranty. The second time, I'm no longer under warranty. I take good care of the digital paper and stylus, storing them only in the official case. It's just a poor design. It's even more egregious because there's no clear reason for this to be a digital stylus at all. I owned the previous model of the digital paper when it still had the capacitive stylus (meaning that you could buy any generic stylus and it would work). That design worked fine. This time around, Sony thought it was a good idea to require a proprietary $80 stylus but without the features to justify it. How do you force people to buy an $80 stylus and not implement pressure sensitivity? $80 might likewise be justified if it detected tilt angle. That would be wonderful. But it doesn't. So you calibrate for a certain tilt to the pen, but of course if you ever write with a different tilt the calibration is off.

My Sony DPT-RP1 stylus arrived as expected (new condition, with accessories and documentation), and was delivered when promised. This item was listed at a reasonable price despite Adorama being one of the few places it can still be purchased online. Great first experience with Adorama. Thanks!

I love the feel of this stylus (size, weight, texture). It feels like a well built pen as opposed to some styluses that feel cheap, hollow, or oversized (like the Apple pencil). Something about the overall weight and its distribution throughout the stylus is just perfect. It works as I expect so far and my [pencil] tips are holding up well under moderate use (about a month). Yes, battery does deplete faster than I'd like, as other users have noted, but lasts longer than a full charge on the DPT, so charging both at the same time works well for me. I use the highlight button more often than the erase button, and its location higher on the stylus creates an unnatural grip position for me, but I'm getting used to it. The stylus tip is very precisely calibrated with the device so my highlights/notes are exactly where I intend. The combination of the materials on the screen and the stylus tip feel like writing on a pad of paper (which I prefer) as opposed to on a piece of glass, as with other devices. Overall, well-engineered design and execution.

The charge doesn't last long and there is no indication of the level so it dies in the middle of use.

It works okay for the first couple weeks. Then it simply cannot keep charged. I barely used it at all everyday and each day I got message to ask me to charge it. Charge light initially on but it turns off prematurely.

It seems like only people who run into trouble come here to complain, so here's a bit of... balancing? I really like the stylus's design. It's surface has a layer of special material that makes it skin-like (instead of being cold and metallic). There is also a nice weight to the stylus which I enjoy. The whole thing feels like a solid design. I suppose the digital paper is intended as an office item, so wear and tear probably isn't the stylus's strong suit, either. I imagine the issue of tip breaking would be very annoying, so I am trying to take very good care of the thing. I wonder what kind of support a customer would get from Sony when the tip breaks, though?

I bought the Sony DPT-RP1/B 13” Digital Paper in the US as it is unavailable in Russia. After using reader for several month today I took my Pen from my back pack and the tip was broken. I cann't put in a new tip as there is part of the old inside... How can I remove the broken tip piece out and put a new one in?

I have a DPT-CP1 but the battery life of stylus is very short about 2~3 days even if I do not use it. Is it necessary for this stylus to power off ? I can't find any information about shutdown of stylus from manual.

Hi, not sure if it is my own mistake but I cannot figure the function of the upper part of the side click. Lower part works well as the eraser. Intuitively, I assume the top click as a toggle for the color between default (blue) and another (red). However, I cannot figure out the use of the upper part, and cannot find any instruction so far. I wish SONY can help this out

I bought the Sony E-Reader DPT-RP1 and was very happy with it. Caus it is not available in Europe yet, had to purchase it in the US. After just two weeks, the Pen (Sony DPTA-RS1) that came with the Reader fell on the floor and the tip broke. I can not put in a new tip while there is half of the old inside... Bad design, why can't I just open up the pen, take the broken tip out and put a new one in?

Because of the design of stylus, I can't remove the broken part of the tip, and obviously, it is a design flaw

Horrible experience. The tips are easy to break inside of the stylus. and once this happened, you can not get it out; only buy a new stylus (which is so expensive) or send it back to Sony. I bought it three months ago, and it has already broken twice. I think it's the problem of its design. No mention the tips are not endurable enough. You need to replace it every 3 weeks even I use the plastic tips. And also the battery is weird. Sometime when I just done charging, it still does not work, unless you connect it to the charging cable again

It's my 3rd day using Digital Paper that I've waited for 2 months to be shipped, and a single drop of my pen breaks the tip - inner part is stuck. There is no way to take the tip out, glue doesn't work, and I have to buy another pen to continue my work with Digital Paper. There is no solution online, and it's just a waste of time.
