The wifi connects to my iPhone 5 but the software never connects to my iPhone 5 (iOS 8.3). The wifi will not connect to my iPad at all. The wifi and software connects to my iPod (iOS 6.1.6). Why can't I use it on my iPhone?

I purchased the QX-10 while it was on sale. I had been looking after these Lens style camera's for sometime and the price was right so I went for it. The Original Price was 249.99 and I picked mine up for $149.99 a few months ago. The original Price point is a bit high in my opinion. I am a professional photographer so I have little or no use for a point and shoot. My iPhone has been my go to camera for easy pix-N-Shares on social media. Cell phone cameras have come a long way but have never really met my photographic needs. The QX-10 at 150 dollars was Ripe fruit ready for the PIX... (Pun intended) I have been quite impressed with this mini beast as the Picture quality is quite good and far better than anything a cell phone camera will yield yet it doesn't add any weight to my gear set. It is Light and compact one can literally fit it in their pocket and when it's attached to the Smartphone the added weight is worth it's weight in gold when you see the Pictures. 10X Optical Zoom and 18mp Jpg and an image sensor far larger than any Cell phone spells good IQ and a good Bang for the Buck. The Interface using Wifi has a bit of latency but not to the point of frustration. I found that if you remove Image review setting then the operation is much better. However you are transferring a Jpg from the camera to the Phone so you have to expect SOME lag. I have not had any connectivity issues with the app beyond what is to be expected with any wireless device. The camera can shoot in P or program auto Mode and that is fine for many Novices but in order to truly make this camera better Sony could have used PSAM and perhaps a few scene modes (Handheld Twilight my favorite) to really make this camera worth the 200 they are asking for it. There is one thing to note with the iPhone connecting to the Device is a bit cumbersome once you have initially set it up and if there is no other wifi in the area the Camera will connect after a few seconds However if you are at home or place you normally connect to the Wifi you will have to go into settings and manually select the QX-10 for some reason My Android Tablet will allow me to select the device directly from the app. Over all this is an awesome piece of technology and an ingenious design and very versatile. I have take Macro, Wide angle Landscapes, telephoto shots and Portraits... I have certainly found a place for this camera in my kit I am sure you can too. PS I am currently looking at the QX-30 and QX-1 because of this camera. I see lots of potential.

I was impressed as to how much better my iPhone pics could be taken with this camera. The fun of being able to control the camera in group pics was a vacation fun saver!! Unfortunately i now have the iPhone 6+ and the camera doesn't fit. If Sony could make an adopter for it, it will be perfect!

This is a tough review to write. The camera itself is very good (given the restrictions known prior to purchase, especially no screen). Pictures are quite good. The zoom mechanism is a bit erratic, but I have similar problems with some normal point&shoots. However, the WiFi connection to an Android app is quite poor. First, it won't connect at all (ie never ever# to my personal phone (LG Optimus L5}. It will connect to my wife's Samsung Galaxy S3, and our Galaxy Tab 2 tablet. However, it drops connect for seemingly no reason, it is slow to respond at times, and other issues that escape my memory right now. I did upgrade the app and the firmware when I received the QX10 #guess I should check for further updates). This is definitely NOT a "pick it up and take a picture" camera if you want to connect it to a device to see what you are doing. Actually you can pick it up and take a picture without connecting but because there is no screen, you have a poor idea of what the picture will look like. Would I recommend it to someone as a good "general" camera? Definitely not. There are certain circumstances where this could be very good. When decent weather arrives, I will get to try it out more. PS any hashmarks remaining in the review are brackets. Three attempts to get rid of them and they keep coming back.

The camera is amazing and fun to use. As a professional photographer, my only wish is that it could shoot RAW.... and I wish the remote interface software was more reliable. When shooting video, it is pretty common for the camera and phone to lose connection. I still love it though.

Far most consumer needs to know that these type of device is great gadget to use with smartphone to enhance photo experience but would not replace DSLR or M4/3 camera. QX100 is nice F1.8 unit with nice Zeiss lens and also QX1 has now ability to use any Sony lens with adapter. My experience with QX10 is fine knowing the capability and expectoration. I use my Olympus OMD EM-5 with pro lens so when I compare the results there is much to compare. My OMD has superior quality. Now the QX10 for the size and ability to 10x zoom (27.5~275) awesome to say. I'm using iPhone 6 Plus with Thule case so it does not fit with case so I order tablet attachment parts that will give the width I need to fit to my iPhone 6 plus. I did try without the case and few small room to fit. WiFI connectivity between my iPhone 6 Plus and QX10. Very simple as put the encryption key and after the QX10 is powered up connecting from the iPhone takes about 10sec once you see the SSID of the QX10. IOS app works great and while it does not run in background so if you exit it has to reconnect but only takes 5sec or so. I had not issues and I just go the camera today. Firmware is 3.0 and IOS app is latest and I have not seen any trouble on connectivity. I did notice that when I was using Movie Mode and looking at my iPhone screen and it freeze while I was moving the camera in circle. Actually video did not lost any frame so I can only assume that due to wireless connectivity some bandwidth or transfer glitch. I personally don't use video much unless I'm making some review for youtube. QX10 does have limitation on shooting mode. Just three mode. Two are the iAuto, iAuto + then P mode. both iAuto works fine and I think iAuto + suppose to do better on blur so using on lower light might help better. Although I been using iAuto+ overall and do fine. You can hear take multiple shots. P mode does allow two thing, ISO and EV settings iAuto/iAuto+ mode does take very natural shot expecting same tone balance as you looking at the objects. P mode does not give full live sensor mode until you shoot and look the results. My OMD does live sensor so I can get what I want quicker. It does not have flash so in very low right situation you may not able to take good shot as higher ISO and these small sensor may give grainy results. All in all QX10 is easy and quite reliable point shoot unit. QX10 is for you if you just need simple, easy and has smartphone. Someone who like to go more simpler without carrying low end point shoot camera. And like me just like to have with me if I don't have my high end camera or just need out on the date for not carrying bulky camera bag. These device is very unique while you can not expect the perfect photo the size fits in your palm I think it's nice supplement to have. When you start paying more money on QX100 or QX1 I would recommend to setup up and invest on DSLR (Nikon, Canon, Leica, Pentax )or M4/3 like Olympus OMD, PEN and Panasonic Lumix.

I bought this QX10 as a present for my wife, I have the QX100 for my self. It is very light, the zoom is very nice and the G lenses provide a good quality picture. It is a must to upgrade the firmware to 3.0. will let use the shutter button in 2 steps mode and also ISO setting at P mode. Also will improve the video quality but I have not test it. And pairing via NFC with latest PlayMemories App update is a just couple of seconds.. The play memories App upgrade also gave some new features as thumb settings control, 3 types of grids and a mirror mode for selfies addicts. The camera itself is lightweight but seems very well made and solid. It comes with a W battery and the cellphone adapter. A button and a small twist can detach the camera from the adapter letting you take odd angles shots, very nice results so far. It is small and light enough to fit a front pocket, a very handy device. I will recommend it 100%

FUN is the only word to describe using this camera with my phone. I keep it in my purse so it's ready to shoot pics at a moment's notice. I have a honkin' big digital SLR for serious shooting, but given that I'm an educator and have lots of spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities with my students, this neat little camera beats my phone camera, hands down.

I love my XMAS GIFT FROM MY BROTHER!!! Its awesome for trips and for taking macro pictures! If you have a drone you can actually install it and use it for the ipad mini or your iphone! I have an iphone with 16 gigabites not enough memory to take pictures it consumes the memory fast! Videos specially! But! With my brothers gift for me im a sony fan, and i have always loved sony gadgets! Very unique, classic, original and amazing hardware :) Thank you sony! For your awesome extra portable lens! I wish it could link automatically the DSC-QX10 to the pairing on the ipad or iphone a bit faster it would just make everything better please! Update the version on the iOS and also make it faster to manipulate to actually take the moment right there and at a good timing! :)

I bought this camera for a trip to Greece and it enabled me to take some amazing pictures, especially at night. The UI is intuitive and the Play Mobile app is great. I like the idea of having a camera that instantly saves to my phone, very convenient for sharing pics/vids. The only real downside is that it if you have the camera off and the app closed, when you want to take a picture, it takes about a minute to 90 seconds to turn on the camera, load the app, and wait for them to sync so you can take a picture. Therefore, capturing spontaneous moments can be difficult, unless you have the app and camera synced already, which can kill the battery on the camera and your phone.

I first really took a look into the QX10 just last week. After some YouTube research, I had to have one. I am very satisfied with the quality of the pictures and the lens camera itself so far. Great pictures and a great idea. This device clearly is not made for the quick "pull out of you pocket" camera shoot, but it is great for a quick setup and pulling in of a great picture without lugging around a lot of extra stuff. I have used the lens with 2 different cell phones and a tablet. The interface is a problem. PlayMemories is still buggy as of March 21, 2014. The program often hangs up on my Samsung S4 requiring a forced shut down. The NFC connection more often than not does not work. Straight WiFi connection is also a little slow. The interface really needs to be fixed and reliable. This is the only reason I can not give a full 5 stars. The interface also has me considering returning the lens. The QX10 is a great toy, but if I can not use it, why keep it.

It's super cool! I've definitely made both kids and adults impressed with it. It doesn't fit over my iPhone case so I primarily hold it in a different hand, which takes a few to get used to but I actually prefer to on-phone use. I love that it saves the photos straight to my phone which is easy for sharing. I wish I could save it to the cloud somewhere or on the device instead of my phone however because the photos are larger and take up a good bit of room. I would also be interested in a case for it! I borrowed a case from one of my SLR lenses so it wouldn't get banged around in my bag when carrying it around. Overall: Very cool. Recommended! The price point was the only thing most of my friends had hesitation about. Would be more likely to check out around $150.

It does exactly what it says. It is perfect if you know why you are purchasing it, hence this is perfect for my needs. Sony can only improve on this innovative gadget...

I was looking for a cool photography related gift for my wife and I came across the DSC-QX10 at Best Buy. I am a fairly techie guy and the concept intrigued me, so I researched it, looked at the limitations (occupying wifi, no blue tooth, storage on cam instead of phone, slight lag between phone and cam) all relatively minor if all you are looking for is a Cam you can supplement your phones existing cam with. If you are looking for a DSLR this is not it, My wife had just replaced her Lumia (the 40 megapixel one) and was dissatisfied with her new phones Cam. This sony fit the bill in every way, parried with a 32 gig mem card most of the complaints disappear. You can shoot what you want when you want effectively with an awesome zoom you can't find on any cell phone 10x optical.

I'm not sure if this is a necessary product category, it's such a hassle to turn on the camera and then connect it to the wi fi in order to control the camera on the phone, I've missed a lot of shots like this, also the battery life is not acceptable for a full day of use.

It's great for still photos, but didn't produce the best "action shots." Made photography subjects look as if they were front lit, without a flash. A good product, easy to use and portable.

The idea is fantastic! I love that I can attach a better lens and take unique photos. The disappointment came when I realized that I'm not able to use this lens as a replacement for my camera on my phone. For example, like not being able to use third party apps with the lens. Also, the app is very minimal and doesn't give you much option or control. I was expecting software similar to what I see on the Nex 7 camera I own. The lag time to connect the camera is frustrating as well. I have an iPhone5 and it doesn't just connect - there's a process. I have the QX10 but I'd rather take it back and get the QX100, but only if Sony fixes some of these issues and soon. Great idea, great camera just needs a lot of bugs worked out.

If your wanting a fun little gadget for taking unique shots, shots above the crowd, group shots, or spy cam around the corner shots. This is a pretty cool little toy. And the quality of photos is right up there with some of the nice Cyber-shot models. It's really great for getting photos of your dogs. It is the first release of this fun little camera, so there are a few things I'd like to see improved. A flash on the actual lens would really be my only request. All though it does way better than my iphone in low light w no flash. (Obviously flash is needed in very low light) As far as the not being able to do quick shots... yes the app takes a bit of time to catch up. But I prefer to use the shutter button right on the side of the lens. I can do very quick shooting that way... it just takes my phone time to catch up to display them. Now that lag in my opinion is no fault of the camera lens... but my phones ability to process the large images and catch up. Or it could be the app? Now that doesn't pose much of a problem for me since the lens is in my hand when I'm taking most of my photos... but if you want fast shots just using the app and have the lens set at a distance you may find that a headache. But you won't find a more economically priced camera that gives you the versatility of raising it above the crowd at a football game or concert to get an awesome shot, or hiding in in a couch cushion to catch your dog doing something funny. And I wanted something where the photos would go right to my phone for quickly sharing on FB, email or txting. So all in all my opinion is that it's a fun little gadget but you have to get it knowing what it's strengths and weaknesses are.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I love it - of course I can barely operate my iPhone camera. However, my photographer husband could not believe the QX10. It was easy, convenient and took incredible pictures! Its taken my Instagram to a whole new level!

Important addition to any mobile photographer's arsenal. While the Qx10 now has me lusting more for the Qx100 with its Carl Zeiss glass and f/1.8, the x10 is a valuable tool. I love the option to save low res to my phone and high res on the memory card in the x10. I only wish it was wider angle or had better macro capability.

I really liked the camera. I reviewed it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50I12J2p5OI&feature=c4-overview&list=UUEgZPWNJpCYoQg8XXOzigTg Things I did not like: no control of flash no viewfinder (duh, but COULD be an improvement) Takes up your wifi connection (disregard IF using NFC)

Much better than smart watch (first generation) -Solid build (full metal) -Excellent performance (very responded screen, much better processor) -Battery life is 2 times better than my old watch. I also have a Pebble watch. But I will never comeback to them. Regards. Avetis

I really love this camera as a great companion to my iPhone for specific occasions. It is a very interesting concept, I love the zooming capabilities and image quality. The unfortunate problem is with the playmemories software which is very incomplete in terms of functionalities and buggy and unreliable, at least on iOS 7. I hope Sony with provide an update to the software very soon which will make this new camera concept really great and more usable.
