problem in lens

I bought it in Austria in 2010 along with extra tele-lens 70-300mm. After using it for a year the lens that came along with the camera (18-75mm) started making loud clutter sound but it didnt make any noise with 300 mm lens so i bought another lens of 18-70 mm and it went fine for few months but same clutter sounds started coming. I am not sure what the problem is. It is working perfectly with 300 mm tele-lens. I have taken more than 15,000 pics with this camera but I now feel it was not a good choice.

Everything I hoped for...Almost

I purchased this camera to take pictures of my daughters softball games. It does OK but I wish it woud process quicker to get more shots per second. I have taken thousands of great pictures with it. I just wish I would have paid the extra money to get the tilt screen LCD for taking pictures above a crowd without trying to guess if I got the shot. Buy the remote, you will not be dissapointed. I also suggest getting the next upgrade of lens. WOW, they are amazing. I am very happy with the camera overall.

Great first DSLR

I've had this camera for two years - and to be blunt, I adore it. It was my first DSLR and having it in my arsenal allowed me to grow as a photographer. While it isn't the most powerful DSLR out there - its definitely worth every penny. I'd recommend it to any person looking for an entry level camera. The only gripe I have about the camera is the speed of the autofocus. I do a lot of fast paced shooting and sometimes the photos are just a bit out of focus. I attached two photos I took with this camera.

Love of my life

My mother bought this Alpha 200 for me in 2008 as a Christmas gift. She was just searching for a good and inexpensive camera. The funny part is she didn't know that she was getting me such a good camera. I now am starting my own photography/graphic business and my A200 never lets me down because I learned how to use it to its fullest. The only reason I would want to get any other camera is for more mega pixels and even then I will always want an ALPHA!

My First DSLR

the selling point for me as the fact that my minolta lenses form my old SLR would fit this camera. It is very user friendly. I don't really rely on or trust live-view so it is nice that this camera does without it... it saves a lot of battery. as mentioned above the motor is somewhat loud BUT not as loud as canon rebels in the same price range. This is a big step up from the predecessor the a100. although the aesthetics didn't change much, it is still la much better camera. If I were to do it all over I would probably buy the a300. It is more balanced in that it takes the motor from the a700 which makes it much more powerful AND quiet

Great starter DSLR

Can't beat this camera for the price. I was a relatively casual photographer when I bought it and now consider myself an enthusiast. I can't get enough. High ISO could stand less noise but overall photos are very good, even with the lower priced lenses I use (kit 18-70 and Sigma 55-200) Macro is great! Exposure, to me, seems more accurate than others and requires little or no compensation. Battery life is very good. Some do not like the button layout but I find them in the right spot. Easier and faster to adjust most functions than Nikon. Super Steady Shot far out performs the lens based vibration reduction. One of the only down sides is the loud shutter noise.

A200=Art maker

I bought this masterpiece to begin in DSRL photography and resulted pretty impressed with the results right from the first shot taken. Delivers great powers in saturation of colors especially in night scenes. Eventually a great tool for moving up to the A900, makes a great buy and pretty useful for fashion, nature, sports...just a great camera for beginners and intermediate photography students. 10 out of 10!

Great starter DSLR

This camera is a great entry into the DSLR world. It's got all of the necessary features, and is easy to use. The AUTO mode gets you started really quick, with easily controllable Aperture-priority and Shutter-priority modes available for when you get more experienced. You'll get great results right out of the box with the kit lens, and there are lots of options as you progress. I previously had an A100 and I have to say that there's nothing I miss from it over this camera. The only problem that I've encountered is that images get noisier as ISO increases, so I try to shoot at ISO 400 or less whenever I can. Other than that, I haven't had any problems.

Good Starter Camera

My first Dslr, its a great camera to start out with. No Doubt. Although I wish I bought a Nikon D60 since there equipment (lens, external flash, etc) is a lot less than sony's equipment. But besides that you can not go wrong with this purchase. Definetely competes with Nikon, and other Major Dslr dealers.

Great entry camera

I have only had this camera one day and I am upgrading from a small point and shoot.I researched a lot of cameras and was considering the a300,a350,the Rebel xsi and Canon 40d and Nikon D90.I think that this is a great purchase and the live view feture on the a300 and a350 just burns battery life and actually creates heat which creates noise. The camera works great and so far no complaints.I think anyone wanting to get into the D-SLR scene this is a great camera for the price.

A200 is AOK

I've had the A200 for about 7 months and taken over 4000 pictures. I am so pleased with the purchase. I can't believe some of the pictures I get with it. The image stabilizer works very well. One of my most amazing shots was of a baby seagull as we motored by slowly in a small boat. I was using the 75-300 zoom lens and sitting on top of the deck using a limp hand hold. The macro shots are also stunning. I really doubt I will move up into the A300, A350 or A700 since Sony simply made the A200 to well for my needs. Don't be afraid of the cheaper glass they have available either. I love low light pictures and the 50mm 1.4 lens is superb in low light. When it's dark...that's the lens that gets put on.

Great camera for the price

I'm a beginner in DSLR and could not understand the functions, but I saw your Digital 101 class, registered, and now I have greater knowledge of how to properly use the features of a DSLR and improve my photography skills. Since then, I have taken sharp, crisp, clear, and great pictures with this Sony a200.Also you can always go to Digital 101 for refreshers, and pointers from other DSLR users, Pro's and beginners. Great price, good lens, great pictures, and fun to use.

SONY ON THE RISE

PERFECT CAMERA AS LONG AS YOU KNOW WHAT ITS PURPOSE OF USE WILL BE.... I DO STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY SO THIS CAMERAS NINE POINT AUTO FOCUS IS THE MOST RELIABLE FUNCTION FOR ME.... OTHER RELIABLE FUNTIONS FOR MY USE (SHUTTER SPEED PRIORITY) (S) MODE EXTERNAL USE THAT I USE, HOTSHOE FOR FLASH CABLE (SYNC) ADAPTOR AND SHUTTER REALEASE CABLE FOR EXTERNAL REMOTE TERMINAL.... I HAVE USED THE CAMERA A FEW TIMES WITHOUT IT PLUGED INTO OVER 100 WATTS OF FLASH AND STROBE (NORMAL USE) AND THIS CAMERA TAKES OUTSTANDING PHOTOS IN ANY LIGHTING SITUATION NOT HAVING LIVE VIEW DOES NOT BOTHER ME AT ALL, IF I HAD WANTED LIVE VIEW I WOULD OF WENT WITH THE A300 SONY IS NEW INTO THE DSLR WORLD AND THEY ARE DEFINETLY PUTING OTHER COMPETITORS IN A PANIC WITH THEIR NEW LINE OF LOW PRICED, HIGH QUALITY DSLR'S SONY FAN AND TRUSTED BUYER

(SONY) THE FUTURE OF DSLR

"Ive been reviewing this camera since it came out in January 2008 I was looking for a new tool for my studio to update a few of my older cameras. After three months of review I finally chose this one over the Newer Nikon and Canon models. I have no problem with the two competitors but the A200 was just what I needed for my studio portrait work. (REASONS FOR MY SELECTION) Nine point auto focus with selectable area focus - Shutter Speed Priority - ISO Selection quick fix button - hot-shoe terminal for external flash and sync cord or wireless flash remote - Shutter release remote terminal with protective door - steady shot and anti blurr and the dust reduction system works great because of lenses being changed. All in all the quality is great. The kit 18-70mm lense is fine but if your a pro like myself then you already know to shop for the fisheye lenses. The 28mm is my first pick... I see no problems with the A200. Beginers chosing this camera need to take time with this camera, I do not recommend this to a person who is not willing to take the time to study the functions. If coming from a point and shoot, then almost any DSLR can take time to learn, even for us intermediate or Pro. I saw a review Posted before mine on this same SONY site about shooting in low lighting, well I had no trouble shooting in very low lighting at ISO 800 with a slower shutter speed in the SHUTTER PRIORITY MODE (S) MODE on the selctor knob. Above I mentioned to the unexperienced that they need to take time to learn the functions of this camera, it is capable of alot more then you would expect. Other Funtions this camera has that I dont need but appreciate, Very fast start-up time, very fast auto focus, More time shooting and less time charging. The price was amazing for as many functions as there are. SONY Jumped into the DSLR world and surprised many with their design and adding features that still to this day other competitors have not yet matched"

OK but no flash

I got this camera for my wife and after about two weeks she gave it up. The camera is too complicating for her. The flash is a big problem for us in that we want a quick flash for the picture. Not something that takes over 5 seconds to take one picture at night. I turn the flash off and it is like taking pictures of bats in a tunnel at night. It does take outstanding photos but the con seams to be a problem.

Very good Camera

I love this camera, This weekend I was in St Agustine Florida and I took great pictures during the day and at night. I also use it at work (Graphic Design and Printing Shop) Is so easy to setup even in manual mode, the screen is large and easy to read. The controls on the body are also well placed and comprehensive. All around great camera for amateur of profesional.

The Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A200 camera is designed to be faster, lighter and easier to use than its predecessor - the DSLR-A100. With its 10.2-megapixel (effective) Super HAD APS-C sized CCD image sensor, the DSLR-A200 camera captures high-quality images with increased sensitivity, reduced image noise and greater detail.

The Sony BIONZ processing engine provides data-rich picture information at high speeds and reduces picture noise in the RAW data stage before image JPEG conversion. The results are high-resolution, detailed images with rich tonal reproduction. The DSLR-A200 camera also incorporates Sony's Super SteadyShot image stabilization in the body to allow shooting at shutter speeds of 2.5 to 3.5 steps slower than otherwise possible and since the stabilization system is built into the camera body, every compatible lens attached to the camera (including all Minolta Maxxum and Sony Alpha lens) benefits from it.

The DSLR-A200 model supports JPEG and RAW file formats and it records images on CompactFlash (Type I & II) media cards. An adaptor for Memory Stick Duo media cards is sold separately as an accessory. The camera has other upgraded features including a more compact body with an easily-accessible mode dial; an easy-to-use function menu (camera function display); an auto focus speed that is 1.7x faster than the previous model; improved predictive control performance; quieter shutter sound; automatic pop-up flash; and a battery life indicator that displays the percentage of battery life remaining so you know exactly when to recharge.

The camera's 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD screen provides easy playback viewing. Its vibrant, easy-to-view screen features 230K-pixel resolution, an anti-reflection coating and a glare-reducing layer that assures vivid, accurate colors with a wide viewing angle, even in daylight. The on-screen navigation display shows camera settings and key shooting information in large, easy-to-read text and the display's orientation automatically switches from landscape to portrait position when the camera is turned on its side.
