A good add on to the a7ii, especially if you have larger hands. Easy to install, however, it will completely cover the battery door. And like the local camera store and I agreed, needed but overpriced.

I bought this with my A7iii as I found my little finger dangling off the camera without any grip. How I'd wish it would sit on a tripod though !

Great accessory for bigger hands. Seemless fit on my A7RIII. Improves the ergonomics massively. Just hard not to feel a little ripped off for what is just a small patch of real estate for my pinky.

4 stars for not considering a tripod plate. BUT where there is a will, there is a way. Pull out Sony screw, go to HD and get longer screw with same thread, and get lock washer. I took out short screw on Peak Design plate, used new screw with lock washer and went through both devices into bottom of A7iii. Will test out this week and let you all know how it goes. I have image to prove it but can’t seem to find how to load from phone?

Nice, overpriced accessory. Because of price I wasn’t considering to buy it. Then I had a chance to try the battery grip and this extension in the store. I was sold on the spot. Holding A9 with GP-X1EM feels more comfortable than even with the full battery grip. Easy, quick to put on and off for battery exchange thanks to the D-ring screw. Besides increased comfort, this grip also lowered number of exposure accidents for me. Small Sony bodies cause frequent accidental pressings of some external controls. Sometimes I am taking action pictures with up to +3 overexposure or wrong ISO without realizing it. GP-X1EM allows me to hold the camera with the thumb mostly away from those controls. One minor gripe – no threaded hole for attaching tripod plate. I prefer to work handheld, but there are occasions when the tripod is needed. I keep the Arca style tripod plate permanently attached to the camera body for such occasions. To use this grip, the tripod plate had to go. Now it take much longer to place camera on tripod. Remove the grip extension first, then attach the camera tripod plate with the hex key. After I am done, reverse the procedure. Unnecessary slowdown. I have to carry the plate, the screw and the hex key separately and worry about losing it, instead of having it attached to the body or to this extension permanently. Sony could also made this grip with the grooves to fit Arca clamps directly. GP-X1EM can be used with other Sony bodies, like 6500. It does not fit exactly as with A9, but still makes holding the small camera body more comfortable.

The build quality is pretty high (made of metal maybe a whole piece). That's why it's a little expensive. And the holding experience is great. I even guess and hope all future A7 will be made like this with this ext.! So yeah I recommend it to whoever wants a significant grip improvement.
