Major Upgrade to an Important Tool
I've upgraded from the original ringlight (HVL-RLAM) to this much more powerful unit. I use it the same way, that is macro / technical photos. As with the earlier unit, I modified the hot shoe adapter to make the control unit .5" or so lower to the camera. Very useful and flexable tool.
The HVL-RL1 offers highly effective illumination of small subjects for macro shooting. Its powerful LED performance is approximately 4 times brighter than previous models and brightness can be easily dimmed to achieve creative lighting that subtly reflects your intentions. Extremely smooth lighting effects can also be achieved without clearly revealing the source of light.
Attachable for 49/55mm lens.
The optional FA-MA1AM Macro Light Adaptor is required when using the Ring Light with SAL30M28 or SAL50F18 lenses
