This enables me to leverage the power of the legacy A-mount lenses especially in the telephoto category. This design of the LA-EA3 is perfect for the heavier lenses like the SAL70400G and SAL70400G2. A Must have for every adventurous Sony shooter.

A must have for your E mount camera if you still have good A mount lenses with in-lens motors.

I bought this so that I could could continue to use my two motorised A mount lenses and benefit from the new technology on my mirrorless a9. Reading reviews this seems to be a better choice than the LA-EA4 which still relies on screw driven focusing. So far I'm pleased with the results.

I use this adapter on my Sony A7iii with the A mount 16-35 Sony lens all the time and it works flawlessly.

I purchased the Sony LA-EA3 to utilize the A7ii auto focus system. I did find that I do prefer to use this adaptor over my LA-EA4 adaptor when using my Sony Alpha series lenses. The focus area when using the LA-EA3 adaptor is wider and just a bit faster. The focus area points are wider also. I mostly use it with wide area focusing and on continuous focus. The only con I have on this adaptor is that it has trouble finding focus in low light situations when the LA-EA4 did not. But when in those really low light situations I rely on manual focus with focus peaking anyway. Focus peaking is such a life saving feature that Sony offers! So if you have Sony Alpha lenses and use them on the the E-mount mirrorless I highly recommend both adaptors the LA-EA3 & LA-EA3 but if I was only able to take one with me to use with my A7ii I would grab the LA-EA3 because of the wider focus area that it utilizes. Also when using face detection the adaptor really shines.

I'm glad to be able to use all my A mount lenses with this adapter. I bought most of my lenses during the Minolta days.

Too slow. I returned it and bought a different lens which does not require the adapter.

Works as advertised, light weight and doesn't add much length to lens combo.

Finally made the jump and bought an A7III. I hesitated because I had some nice a-mount lenses. First off, that camera is amazing. I currently have an a99II, and the focus system on the A7III is astonishing. We’ve all heard that with native e-mount glass. But with the LA-E3 adapter, I’m getting the same results with my ZA 24-70 2.8 and ZA 50 1.4. It will not work with my 135 1.8, that’s an older screw drive lens. I don’t get the consistent eye-af you’d get with native, but set your focus point on something and it nails it every time even with a-mount glass. This adapter allows the camera to use its on-sensor focusing system. No micro-adjusting each lens. I think video is handled differently with this adapter. But if you’ve got a-mount glass, and looking to ease into the amazing Sony mirrorless world, this adapter lets you transition and bring some lenses along with. Check specs online, not all lenses work with this adapter, but the ones that have SSM or SAM focusing systems should. Would definitely recommend if you have lenses worth hanging onto but want to go mirrorless.

Do realize that old Maxxum style "shaft drive" AF is not going to auto focus. But everything else including auto iris, metering, FL transmission [for your IBIS and exif] etc are fully operational. It's also beneficial having the additional tripod interface, esspecially if using a Sony APSC body cuz those have a rather questionable built-in tripod interface.

I use this with my 70-400 SAL70400G2 and it works without issues. It also works with the Sony Sonnar 135 1.8 but in manual focus, which is expected for a non-SSM lens.

Works well. Just have to be ready for manual focus. Using with an older lens so takes a bit more effort.

I use this to adapt a mount lens's to my Sony a7mkii and my a6000... both work however the a6000 is noticeably slower and just feels clunkier. If you can go with a native lens, do so... this is a tool that lets a person use other lenses. Know that going in...... in the best of conditions it is slower.

For many years i have shot with Mionlta cameras and manual prime lenses. In the last year , I acquired a Sony A7II so I could make use of the fine Minolta glass. Recenlly I acquired some Minolta Maxxum prime lenses and needed an adapter. Sony was giving a rebate on this model as well as the LA-EA4. Since I do astrophotography, I decided on this one, as autofocus would be a mute point. So far , this investment has proven to be worthwhile and would recommedn to anyone , especially if you don't need the AF functions. Service from Adorama is super and straight foward!!!

I'm glad I buy this adapter. Autofocus on this adapter is about 4 to 7 second. I don't need fast focus because I usually take a pause looking at landscape or have a conversation with my subject before taking the shot.

I bought the LA-EA3 so I could use my sonic-drive A-mount glass (Sony and third party) with my new A7II, excited to have both on-sensor PDAF and CDAF to choose from. Unfortunately the PDAF is slow and unreliable, requiring good light and a detailed and contrasty target to successfully focus. CDAF is slower still, with many micro-adjustments at the end of the focusing cycle, but is unfailingly accurate. Interestingly, when PDAF does manage to lock on and focus successfully, it is then able to track rather well in continuous AF. But after extensive tests, I regrettably returned the LA-EA3 to the supplier for a refund. It may be that it works well on other Sony cameras (such as the A6000-series and the A7RII), but performance is too weak for me to recommend it in tandem with the A7II. Conversely, the LA-EA4 I've bought works flawlessly, closely matching the PDAF in my Sony A99-based Hasselblad HV.

I bought this to adapt a Tamron 28-75 lens. I new there would be auto-focus compromises, but the zoom magnification with manual focus didn't work also. This was too much of a compromise for me. I guess I'm stuck with the native FE lenses.

This adaptor enables the use of A mount lenses on the A7R-II that have SMS direct drive motors. This include most of the Sony-Zeiss lenses and some of the Sony lenses. Will not work with screw drive lenses. When use with one of the SMS lenses, they focus as fast or faster than they did on the A mount cameras. Its small and very light and is very unobtrusive on the camera.

At first I thought I was going to have trouble with it as after a few shots with the SAL 70-400mm a warning popped up on the screen. Re-attaching the lens cured this. One or two glitches later I decided it was either just contacts bedding-in or my failure to make sure the mechanism had clicked into position. I've had no problems since and have changed back and forth between 70-400mm and 24-70mm as well as removing the LA-EA3 completely and re-attaching the FE 55mm.

I just bought this and I am pleased that I did. Now I have the ability to use all my other lenses thus keeping the overall costs down as well as extending my capacity and range photographically
