If you're not going to invest in many lenses then the Sony NEX series is great. It's a tough choice between this and a Micro 4/3s, but I wanted the larger sensor rather than more lens choices.

I use this on trips or family outings. I love the small size and the picture quality is very goo especially if you use good glass.

I got this camera for the rated video quality,..I have only used it sparingly... I have not been able to use it yet for the shooting I bought it for... But I have been fixated on the photography of the camera.. It has me taking such good photos and I just started!!! have not even mastered the basic functions yet...I am loving this camera...

I believe MILCs are the future of prosumer level cameras. I purchased this camera in lieu of a new DSLR for very specific reasons. It reduces the bloat of a DSLR by half, at least; and, it has the advent of wi-fi connectivity. Most photos nowadays end up online, and facilitating that is just a fact of life. Hence, that is why the iPhone is the most popular camera. The Sony NEX bridges that gap in an elegant, functional way. It is every bit a "DSLR camera"-- not an iPhone or a point-and-shoot. However, I chose the Sony NEX because it is actually more practical than a traditional DSLR. I have a NIKON DSLR as well, and the Sony NEX (due to its small form factor and easy controls) allows me to take better shots in manual mode because the controls are so close together and intuitive. I admit, it is not for the professional photographer, but I have gotten pro quality results from this camera with ease. It's all a matter of perspective, but for me the Sony NEX 5R is one of the most satisfying products I've purchased in a long time, to the extent that I bought four lenses to support it.

I was planning on getting the Nex 3n or f3 but I couldn't pass up the deal that Adorama had on this camera. Glad I got this because I really like the wi-fi and the Sony apps you can upload to this camera.

I have been using my NEX-5r for about a week now. I am an amateur photographer and have had Canon and Nikon entry level and middle DSLR's. The bottom line is that if you have the money to buy a $3,000 dollar DSLR, then do it. Otherwise, any camera below that is going to be pretty similar in photo quality. I can say with confidence that this little camera shoots like a $2,000 dollar DSLR. And probably with a high quality lense will shoot pictures that look like a $3,000 DSLR. It came down to three options for a go-to everyday camera. The A66, the NEX-7, and the NEX-5r. Picture quality is virtually the same. Unless you want to print poster size pics, you don't need a 20+ mp camera. For amateur and digital only photography (no printing), 16 mp are more than enough. With features like WiFi for easy transfer to smartphones or computers, the NEX-5r is the best camera for the amateur photographer.

This camera might be ok, barely, if it cost around ($) The only thing which is better than a good point and shoot is the larger sensor. The 18/55 lens it came with wiggled slightly when zooming, but I did not even charge the battery, as the feel of the camera was so poor, so I can not speak fairly about the lens quality from using it. I was very disappointed with this camera, since Sony has so many excellent products. I can not speak about other, more expensive models, but this one has scared me away from the Nex line. I returned this two hours after receiving it, and I thank Adorama for their courtesy in this transaction. I am well pleased with Adorama.

Very very bad buy. After buying then informed the spare battery is out of stock and have to wait 2 weeks. The LCD screen protector provided in the package does not fit the LCD screen of the NEX 5R. It is too short. Instruction manual is not in English! Very bad and completely lost all trust!
