This lense feels very sturdy and has great image quality. It's true that you need to be very very close to your subjects, I've even actually touched the lense to the infect I'm photographing... But it works great.

I wanted to try macro-photography, but I just wanted to see if it's something I like. This lens isn't expensive and is super sharp! You can get close to the subject and after you learned to work with it, you can make great pictures with it. It's a very great lens to start with macro-photography. There is only one little thing; the lens is quite short, so you must avoid working in your own shadow and watch out you don't create a shadow while getting very close to the subject. But you can work around that pretty easy. It's also a great lens for portraits and landscapes. I use it on my A6000 and I would definitely recommend this lens.

I bought this last month unfortunately covid has limited time and use . The one time I used it I got a good shot of a fox using it on auto, pleased with the result. It also helps for me in its size and weight for ease of handling.

Being a mirrorless Sony user, I needed a solution for macro work and this lens fits the requirement very well. The attached photo shows dew droplets - notice the lens created by the largest deop [~2mm dia] and the detail of the actual web and micro droplets. This was handheld with a Sony 6300 and this lens

Very good macro lens, for the price; the f3.5 can be an issue indoors. Takes excellent photos.

• How I use the product I take photos as a hobby. I mainly use this lens with Sony a6000 and the duo works well. I also use the SELP1650 with an extension tube but I found that this lens produces better results. • Things that are great about it 1) Relative to the 16-55mm kitlens, it is noticeably sharper. 2) The color rendition is very pleasing; it eliminates the greenish or yellowish tint from photos. The overall image quality is excellent. 3) True macro with 1:1 magnification. 4) Notably light and compact. I like its weight and size which makes it an all-around lens for me. 5) Autofocus works reliably in video mode. 6) Exceptional value for money. • Things that aren't so great about it 1) Slow autofocus when shooting stills. Switching from macro to infinity is not as quick as expected. The SELP1650 kitlens with an extension tube has a more reliable autofocus speed. 2) The manual focus ring is too firm. If you want to achieve great results for focus stacking, you would need a sturdy tripod. Some would also point out the short working distance because of the 30mm focal length, the f3.5 aperture, and the lack of stabilization. You might want to consider those aspects and examine if this lens would fulfill your requirements. The lens has met all of my demands for a macro lens. If budget is not a concern and you are using Sony mirrorless cameras, then you might want to consider: • Sony 90mm f2.8 FE +gives a longer working distance between the camera and subject +razor-sharp with OSS, manual focus clutch, and focus limiter +internal focusing mechanism +fast enough autofocus speed with a near-silent operation -a bit expensive relative to other macro lenses

Works OK outside on a bright sunny day but not on an overcast day. Not a good macro lens for living things - may be OK for inanimate objects.

This lens is well built, amazingly light so that makes carrying it around a breeze. Is able to get near to objects for that macro shot. Please consider adding this as a must have lens if you are into macro photogpraphy.

I really like this lens, it takes very sharp photos, very nice bokeh and nice portraits. The only issue I have is that when I am shooting macro I have to get very close to the subject and it creates shadow. I just ordered a ring flash, let’s see how it works.

I bought this lens a couple of years ago. The focal length is perhaps shorter than I'd like for macro work - but the autofocus gives me something that my older macro lenses lack. It's also a pretty good standard prime lens on the A6000 or A6500. 49mm filters can attached to the lens itself but then the lens hood cannot be used, however the same 49mm filters can instead be screwed onto the end of the lens hood.

Enjoyed using my a6300 and decided to take it further with macro photography. This product is fairly straightforward and easy to use. Initially, I wished they had another colour other than silver. On hindsight, this helps to differentiate from my E50mm F1.8 portrait lens (which I got in black). Great with still objects (obviously), but I tried it on moving ants with AF-C and captured a few great shots.

I bought this one about a month ago and has a pleasant experience so far. The minimum working distance is merely 95mm, making it possible to capture very small items. Sometimes I use it as a low-magnified microscope. As the forcal distance is 30mm, quite near the 35mm f1.8 lens, it also can be used as a general purpose lens. The centre sharpness is great, and the distortion is minimal. The size is also compact enough to carry around. Anyway, it is a nice and unique lens to keep for my A6000 camera.

This is still a new accessory for my camera and I have not put it to full use yet, but will be later this weekend. I did a quick trial and was amazed by the initial quality of the close up photos that I took.

Bought this lens several months ago to use on my a6300. Great results--sharp subjects, wonderful bokeh. Not just a macro lens, but also a nice walk-about one too.

Great size, easy to use. This lens produces very sharp images, and the focal length gives a decent depth of field for my primary use of gemstone, and jewelry photography.

Generally good, however using the lens hood with a filter is virtually impossible due to the fit of the hood - if this was not a problem, I'd have given the lens 4 stars.

Makes my NEX even better
By photokid
All I have to say it amazing. I love this lens. I'm not a pro photographer by any stretch. I don't know much about f stops and all that jazz but I do know that this lens and my NEX-3 were born for each other. I bought the nex because I wanted to take my photography to the next level it does that better than expected. Then add this lens and we have amazingness. The lens produces crisp photos that are stunning. I love macro photography, and it works great with flowers and nature. The lens itsel...

No noise when focusing, completely silent. Front doesn’t extend when focusing as in the Sony 100mm macro, it keeps its original length. This makes it easy to "fit or use" in underwater housings. The image I uploaded shows the results when used in landscape photography.
See the world up close
The Alpha SEL30M35 NEX macro lens (30mm focal length, f/3.5 maximum aperture) ensures excellent image quality throughout the entire image area. Featuring ED glass in the G4 element, chromatic aberration and color bleeding are minimized, while multi-coating throughout makes for an exceptionally clear rendering. Direct Manual Focus mode allows you to manually override Auto Focus mode for complete creative control. And thanks to an internal stepping motor and rear-focusing design, this macro lens performs equally as well when shooting video, ensuring smooth, quiet operation and precise focus control essential for high-quality movie capture.
Light, compact macro lens delivering high image quality
Ideal for close-ups of flowers, insects, and more
1:1 magnification ratio for frame-filling close-ups
3.74" minimum working distance from image sensor to subject
Features aspherical lens elements and ED glass
Compact and lightweight, the SEL30M35 is a true 1:1 macro lens with a 2.4cm minimum working distance. It renders close-up detail with superb resolution and contrast.
APS-C E-mount - Coupled with alpha E-mount cameras from Sony, APS-C E-mount lenses deliver big camera performance.
Smooth defocusing - Instead of a standard polygon-shaped lens aperture, this lens features a 7-blade circular aperture for more natural, rounded defocusing, or bokeh.
Refined optical performance - Aspherical lens elements minimize distortion while ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements provide superior contrast, resolution, and color fidelity.
Fast, agile focusing - The internal focusing mechanism means the lens barrel doesn't move, enabling a more compact design, faster autofocus response, and reduced minimum focusing distances.
