Smashing camera

I bought this camera after I was diagnosed with Leukemia, its my first DSLR camera, I have found it very easy to use but on the down side, its a wee bit heavy especially when youve got a big lens on.

loved all the features

i bought this camera 20 8 2014 i was delighted to be able to afford this camera as i lways have wanted a sony at a price i could afford. i took some brill photos loved it ... then July 2016 i went to take a photo only to get message on screen error nothing will fix this i can not even get into the menu to reset i have contacted Sony to no avail very disappointed have not used since. i relay did love this camera i was happy with it not now i,m going to be truthful in the rest of my answers because that was how i felt about the use of this camera when it was working

Great camera

I bought this from ebay as a second hand starter camera as I am new to dslr photography. Sony never fails to impress. I am probably biased as most of my tech comes from Sony but that is probably proof in itself that I trust and rely on Sony products.

light weight and my Minolta Maxxum lenses fit

I've used this camera for a couple of years and it is wonderful. Light weight and I can use all my older Minolta Maxxum lenses. The camera is easy to use, and the advanced functions can be learned with some trial and error. I'm 65+ and I have taken wonderful pictures with this camera.

Great camera, crisp pictures, fast focus in auto

Only had this camera a few weeks but love it, loads of features built in to be found, easy menu navigation. I was unsure about going onto a dslr but it is proving fun, learning how to get the results you want or just taking in auto for fast pictures. The detail the camera picks up is fantastic! Taken around 400 pictures and only deleted 4 so if I can anyone can! Enjoy!

The Sony SLT-a58 is very good value

I have had this camera for several months and used it on the auto modes to start with. I have now progressed to fully manual. It is easy to use and comes with on-camera help. The downloadable manual is very helpful and informative, l keep mine on my mobile phone so I have it with me. The camera is robust and well made, it also feels quite light. The controls are in easy to reach positions and it is comfortable to hold, even for long periods of time. As I wear glasses and the eye-piece viewer does not adjust enough to allow me to use the camera without them, the live-view screen is very good and clear with all the information displayed. The software that comes with the camera is also very good.

I just bought it two weeks ago as a replacement of my a300 and secondhand a550. I had quite plenty of lenses so o decided to buy a new a58. A good compact dslr compared old a550. Nice pictures. Fast a d the colour is vibrant. A good thing about this a58 that sony able to make the snap mechanism less noisy and the colour in high iso pics also less 'noise' I love the auto hdr setting. Quite a lot of toggle to play a bit ackward as different compared to a300 and a550 but easy to catch up and learn.

captures quite effectively

Worth more than I paid for, I Love this camera, all I have been doing since I bought it yesterday is taking pictures. When taking pictures with such clarity why not. Been capturing a lot of cute moments with my kid. Amazing video and picture quality and done quick too. Click of a button gives you two photo's the one you click and a pic also removing some things in background and focusing on the main stuff. Battery lasts a while and charges quickly. Introducing the Sony Alpha SLT-A58 interchangeable lens camera, a DSLR that is designed for first-time interchangeable-lens camera users, and includes a new Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with approx. 20.1 effective megapixels as well as a SVGA OLED Tru-Finder within its sophisticated compact body.   • Auto Object Framing: Easily create studio quality portraits of still lifes, moving subjects and even macro close-ups using the iAuto internal exposure intelligence found in the SLT-A58.
  • SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization: You'll reduce blur with every A-mount lens because it provides compensation equivalent to approximately 2 to 4.5 additional steps in shutter speed.
  • Advanced 15-point AF system: To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates Phase Detection AF of great sophistication. Three cross-type sensors to maximize focus precision.
  • Large 2.7" Tilt-able screen: Tilt it up or down to frame high and low angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Fold it flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel.
  • Auto HDR built-in: Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot.
  • Picture Effects: Ordinary scenes become extraordinary photos and movies with Picture Effects. Choose from 11 modes and 15 effects that significantly increase visual impact byadjusting camera parameters and applying advanced processing techniques.
  • Multi-frame NR: Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity.
  • Hand-held Twilight: Get cleaner and sharper nighttime pictures beyond the capability of traditional cameras without using flash or a tripod. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second.
