Needs an upgrade

I thought I was buying a set and forget type product, but I'm constantly worried about the battery dying. I've had mine go out after 5 hours, far short of the advertised time. 8 hours seems the max by cutting down on the scans, but there is no way to be certain about run time. I wish it were possible to change out the batteries. Accuracy is about +/- 20 feet, worse if you happen to be next to a building. Still it is good for a good general location fix. Tracks are crazy if you loose lock, thank heaven for Google Earth for it's graphical editing feature.

Kinda woks

The sale price was great at [$]so I thought why not, but I've currently think this will be my backup device for the reasons I'll get into. I actually have an iPhone, but constant use of the GPS runs the battery down too quickly and I don't see myself using any of the camera dongles due to the cable and/or general bulkiness.I got the unit in record time and installed the software on my PC. Neither the driver nor GPS software has Windows certificates, nor will Windows find the appropriate stuff on its own. One must use the setup programs provided by Gisteq. Yes, yes, it is more of a Windows problem but doesn't leave a warm and fuzzy feeling. Software does work as promised. I had to install the Mac software at work, and to my surprise found a very un-intuitive interface. One must create an album just to download tracks for example. Waypoints do not seem to be downloadable either. And while the PC software will display tracks on a map, one needs Google Earth to do this on a Mac. Also, one cannot change units (mile/km), and the PC version recommends erasing tracks from the device, upon download, not so on the Mac. Very confusing. As for the GPS recording, well it seems to work but easily confused by any nearby building taller than 4 stories. One does not need to be surrounded by tall buildings, just walking next to ONE can cause confusion. Startup can be problematic in that it can jump 1/2 a mile off but recovers quickly.I am going to keep using the device and see how it grows on me, I may be able to live with the errors. The long battery life will definitely make it useful as a backup device, ie just turn it on and forget it. Oh yes, since I shoot RAW, the camera manufacturers software is far more useful than the stuff provided.

Easy to use

The PhotoTrackr rocks! The GPS is very accurate, very easy to set up and to use and it's so tiny you won't notice carrying it. It does everything advertised. Strap it on to your photobag and when returning back home, start the import wizard. First the images are imported from the camera, then the GPS log is downloaded and then merged with the pictures. (I have a MacBook Pro) I am a big fan of the device!
