Before the iconic thrash metal album "Rust in Peace" by Megadeth reshaped the genre, bassist David Ellefson needed an instrument capable of delivering his complex and powerful sound. In collaboration with Jackson, they created the first-ever 5-string bass model, which not only withstood the rigors of the "Rust in Peace" tour but also laid the groundwork for Ellefson's signature series. Today, the X Series Signature David Ellefson 30th Anniversary Concert Bass CBX V stands as a tribute to that pivotal moment in music history, offering both fans and bassists a stylish, high-quality, and durable instrument with a sleek, professional gloss black finish.
Crafted with a poplar body, this 5-string bass guitar is designed for ergonomic comfort and aggressive playing styles. Its contours are strategically shaped to provide a stable anchor for various playing techniques, whether you're using a pick or your fingers. The lower contour ensures the bass remains balanced, whether you're standing or using a knee to prop it up on stage.
The through-body quartersawn maple neck, reinforced with a scarf joint and graphite rods, offers stability and resilience against the harshest of climate changes. This innovative construction ensures that the bass remains reliable through countless performances. The 12"-16" compound radius laurel fingerboard is engineered for precision, flattening out towards the higher frets for effortless, speedy articulation and comfort during extended jam sessions.
Equipped with earth-shaking EMG P and EMG J pickups at the neck and bridge positions, this bass delivers a full-bodied sound with plenty of girth and definition. The pickups are designed to capture the dynamic range of your playing, whether you're laying down a solid groove or performing intricate solos.
The onboard controls include a three-way toggle switch, a single volume control, and a two-band EQ, allowing you to sculpt your tone with precision. Boost or cut the treble and bass frequencies to achieve your desired sound, from warm and mellow to bright and cutting.
The Jackson HiMass 5-string bridge enhances note attack for extra punch and clarity, while maintaining the bass's fundamental tone. This feature, combined with the all-black hardware, from the bridge to the Jackson die-cast sealed tuning machines, contributes to the instrument's overall professional appearance and sound.
Visually, the bass guitar exudes Jackson's distinctive style with its classic Gloss Black finish, pearloid sharkfin neck inlays, and the signature pointed 5-in-line black headstock adorned with a white "Radiation" logo and Ellefson's signature on the truss rod cover.
The X Series Signature David Ellefson 30th Anniversary Concert Bass CBX V is not just an instrument; it's a piece of music history. It's a testament to Jackson's commitment to innovation and quality, and a celebration of David Ellefson's enduring legacy in the world of heavy metal bass playing.
